That said the masamune has extra reach, Sephiroth is faster since Vader is a cripple, but Vader has Jedi/Sith intuition and instinct and can anticipate his moves.

The death star literally has to be right next to the planet to destroy it. Otherwise episode 4 would have made zero sense. The laser doesn't travel faster than light anyway so if it was half a galaxy away it would take thousands of years for the beam to reach its target.

Sephiroth can potentially come back physically though. Vader can't. Sith ghosts can forcefully possess a body but he is Anakin again at the end.
