Game has multiple endings

>game has multiple endings
>only one of them is canon

What's the point?

What's the point of anything?

>Game has multiple endings
>Several are canon and the sequels pick off from a different ending

Name 1 (one) series with multiple sequels based on different endings.

happened in Bioshock

>Oh no, this fictional story's story was fictional!

The fuck does it matter, it's all fictional anyways.

>give the player multiple choices
>at the same time make all the other choices meaningless because the creator has only made 1 of them a real ending

Drakengard

>game has multiple endings
>all endings are canon

>start a new playthrough
>more options

>sequel
>features "what if" stories based on them

>no ending is canon
>game only gets prequels
>sequels leave it vague so all can work

>alternate timeline creating ending
>creates potential for spinoff titles

I don't know why it's worth bitching about an extra feature.

Being able to end Persona 3 early is cool. New game plus'ing straight to Lavos is fun. Dark Souls cycle theme supports the option.

>game has multiple endings
>sequel ignores all of them and makes up its own shit instead

every VN or LN that gets am adaptation into different mediums

>Game has multiple endings
>All of them are canon

>Game has multiple endings
>Sequel picks off from route that was cut from the main game

So your stupid ass can fail more than once

>Game has multiple endings
>All of them are canon
>Developers try to mix them into one story
>Ends up so messed up the sequel is shit

I'll tell you what, if it's an ending where all it is, is a cutscene at the very end of the game then it's a failure, if it's an ending where the missions are fundamentally different, the story changes drastically and it's a satisfying difference then it's perfectly acceptable regardless if it's canon or not

>game has multiple waifus
>only one of them is shilled hard on your character

Whats the fucking point? Im looking at you FE:Fates

>Command & Conquer has 2 campaigns, both endings are canon

>Later games in the series go back to mutually exclusive endings for each campaign

You did so well only to go and ruin it, Westwood.

Armored Core 4 Answer does this perfectly. It's the best example of multiple endings in any game, with The Bard's Tale as a close second for being funny.

>Persona 3
>no matter who you pick you wind up in one lap

Even as an Aigis Fag I feel bad for everyone else.

also a perfect example of multiple non-canon endings done right is shadow the hedgehog

Multiple what-if scenarios with one true ending

>game has multiple endings
>completing all endings unlock the true ending

Having multiple endings shows an authors incompetence to tell one strong narrative without branching off like a lazyfag

Saints Row

op, it doesn't matter as long as the ending you chose is real for YOU.

>game has multiple endings
>all endings are part of the canon

>What's the point?

You don't like "What if" scenarios, do you?

The future is literally infinite, so it would make sense for there to also be another universe where Emma Watson is giving me a blowjob while fingering my two vaginas and is a sex slave of mine for all eternity.

But I'm not in that universe now am I?

Sequels were a mistake.

Zero escape?

Because you need one of the things to be canon in order for there to be a sequel?
You can't have a sequel and go "oh yeah the protagonist both died and didn't die in the prequel lmao enjoy this game".
One needs to be the "true" one in order to build on it.

Drakengard into Drakengard 2/Nier.
