If you have to ask that, I think it's time for you to put video games on the shelf for good, user.
because it's an classic and original JRPG that set the bar high.
Beats me. Earthbound was miles better.
Because it's good.
Babbys first JRPG.
Because it's Square's best trying something new while collaborating with Toriyama to try and find a middleground between Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.
It combines the strengths of both series into a charming adventure that's easy to get into but has nuance and reasons to replay it.
Because it's literally flawless.
These
Not these.
It's a strong combination of writing, aesthetics and sound that feels like a bunch of other games but is also unique at the same time.
Earthbound was garbage and people didn't like it until it became a meme. The game's comedy isn't even funny.
Way better than Xenogears.
Ayla
It's at the very least kinda ok in every regard and never bad in any.
Amazing soundtrack, and for its time, graphics
I would fault it for not utilizing its battle system's main gimmicks enough though, the enemy formations and your positions in relation to them are always pre-baked in a given encounter so you can't really strategize with the AoE techs all that much, and a lot of magic shit hits the whole screen anyway. Also a really easy game unless you run from every fight or something.
I never got the impression Earthbound was supposed to be 'funny'. Moreso just a weird adventure with a different style from the usual RPG.
Gameplay wise, Earthbound was typical rpg. The tryhard unfunny characters were annoying but I certainly see the why 12 year olds might think the game is clever.
I do agree that it's an easy game, although it doesn't make the game any less special.
>implying
>play older RPGs
>random battles don't make sense
>ATB is too slow
>stuck talking to a droning NPC and can't walk away
>randomly warp to a random battle screen/scene rather than fighting where you actually are
>party is all midgets, human bosses are all gigantic
>can't run
>can't move diagonally
>battles go on for too long
Chrono Trigger fixed literally all of that
It's fun.
>play FF7
>Square learned nothing
Why are you worried about how funny the characters are? It wasn't trying to be funny.
Because multiple teams.
Introduce her to a razor
It's the quintessentially JRPG of its time that also took some steps to separate itself by removing the annoyance that would make no sense to everyone who's not a JRPG fan already, like random encounters and whatnot.
Highly polished so it's aesthetically pleasing
Shallow as fuck gameplay so it's accessible to casuals
Why not a taser so you can have fun with her while she's unconcious ;^)

Superior
why do you dislike this game?
Because its an easy RPG with dozens of endings and requires little grinding. It has bitchin music too
>Handles time travel relatively well
>Likable, memorable characters
>simple but interesting battle mechanics
>steady pace in story with some optional/post-game content
>soundtrack is great, one of the best
>pretty good amount of replay value with bonus endings
>game is a good length
Pretty much this.
Earthbound is a 7/10 at best.
