>Final Fantasy XV won't reach half the sales of Pokemon Sun & Moon.
>Pokemon Sun & Moon is also a modern RPG
>Pokemon Sun & Moon was able to modernize the genre without removing turned based combat.
What's going on? I thought turned based combat was too dated for people?
Jason Jenkins
Pokémon is the "Japanese marketing machine" and it is a rated for kids. It has nothing to do with quality, the difference is only due to better brand recognition and a larger potential market share.
Jonathan Wilson
>the last guardian ico is getting the axe isnt it? >FFXV drop expected but still shit >mario maker that shit barely droped
How doez yakuza sales compare to yakuza 5? the series been in a decline since 4
Samuel Price
Final Fantasy is too unknown of a brand for turned base combat?
Caleb Miller
worse than 5 yakuza 5 opened with 100k more, but is still the best selling yakuza on ps4. At some point sega will have to look for a way to keep the series relevant.
Jordan Rodriguez
What the hell were you expecting in regards to TLG?
Face it, Ico and SotC were never really powerhouse blockbusters, and SotC sold double what TLG did in its debut week, with a really heavy marketing campaign. They were more obscure stuff that got a lot of streetcred because they were good in their own right, and now everybody namedrops them for internet points.
Watch the same shit happen to Shenmue if and when it comes out.
David Williams
i expect at least 100k for the studio to be kept at least.
Christian Turner
>It has nothing to do with quality Hahaha
Christopher Walker
haha
Active games fans BTFO
William Ross
Absolutely
Cooper Morales
I think it has less to do with turn based combat and more with the fact that XV is utter shit.
Levi Butler
I noticed this back in 09 when FFXIII released alongside SoulSilver and HeartGold, and the pokemon games had more complex character stats and gameplay.
Hudson Ortiz
Pokemon is a deeper RPG than Final Fantasy XV, and it's a kids game.
Samuel Smith
Most FF games use some variant of ATB and so aren't actually turn based. I mean I like FFX but idk why you'd get so mad about the franchise going in the opposite direction. I would always take decent character action-y combat over fumbling with menus when I'm under a time limit.
Carter Lewis
If they used the ATB combat from VII-X, it would be dated, alienate new players, and hurt sales according to Square-Enix.
Do you agree? If so, how has Pokemon outsold FFXV without including an ATB system?
Jayden Flores
Mad isn't the right word, I just feel like the changes they made to the Final Fantasy formula have been very misguided and arbitrary.
I think a lot of players would hope for something more akin to just a HD remodel of FF VII rather than this "modernization" that Square-Enix never seems to get right.
Ayden Adams
With this game (and FFXIII) I now feel free from this franchise. I understand that some people like somewhat of a more action-oriented approach, but I have Souls, MH, and character action for stuff like that.
Real RPG's will always be turn based to me (or at least very deliberate in the combat decisions you make), and for that reason SMT will carry on as my favorite JRPG franchise.
Eli Morgan
I'm so glad FFXV is a complete failure
Jace Cook
this desu kek
Worse gameplay than fucking 13. Let that sink in for a moment guys
Logan Nguyen
>weeb
>No gf
>Poor
>Living with your parents and leeching their money
What faillure you are.
Jayden Myers
Pokemon was able to revitalize the franchise, bring new fans without having to discard or shit on the old ones. It was welcoming to both old and new fans. It treated them both with respect.
FFXV tried too hard to get the normie money and got nothing at the end.
Cameron Smith
SMT4 sold well, bravely default sold well, persona 5 will likely reach the sad XV numbers, pokemon buttfucked every one of them...
Why are people saying turn based combat would scare anyone?
Ian Turner
What an embarrassing reply. This is an 18+ board you know?
Luis Cook
So much this. If you want action you have bayonetta, dmc, mh, souls, some chink mmos like pso2 and ddo. Even the average licensed shovelware that platinum shits from time to time is better (tmnt, transformers, etc). There was no need.
Levi Gray
>What faillure you are
still not as much of a failure as FFXV
Nathan Rivera
It's just way too dated, kids won't understand why things have stopped.
we are 100% certain that people want to just hold a button to attack, and that it's the best form of gameplay for an RPG.
Zachary Bell
This is when you should have known you were in trouble.
Sebastian Smith
>I think a lot of players would hope for something more akin to just a HD remodel of FF VII rather than this "modernization" that Square-Enix never seems to get right.
>WE WANT REMAKE OF FFVII >REMAKE >REMAKE >REMAKE >SE actually goes for a REMAKE >WTF WE NEVER ASKED FOR THIS???? JUST GIVE BETTER MODELS????
Gavin Ortiz
I knew it would be shit in 2006 when I saw a trailer showing Sasuke being "badass" by teleporting around killing guys, his eyes flash red, then he walks back inside and broods on a chair. Literally the poster child of everything wrong with action anime/manga.
Fuck that shit.
Noah Davis
>MH for action combat No.
>Pretending that XV is the only ARPG in the existence No.
Wyatt Davis
Kids play pokemon. Pokemon is turn based. And arguably the most complex jrpg in the market. And its aimed to kids. Also a commercial success.
Whatever you have against turn based jrpgs, pokemon just denies your arguments
Levi Anderson
>remake means changing the genre Oh boy, can't wait for that RTS Quake remake
Andrew Cruz
people will overlook gay weeb shit if the gameplay is solid
Angel Garcia
>Pokemon is turn based. And arguably the most complex jrpg
Gavin Smith
this is actually true, hence Bayonetta 2
Jayden Hill
To be fair Witcher 3 combat is equally shit but at least is a competent rpg and also a graphicwhore dream. Lrts not forget it has more content. Its quality and quantity.
Connor Reed
At worst it's going to be "A" added to the JRPG.
>RTS Quake remake Completely nonsensical example.
Jacob Cook
>not when they announced all the spin-off shit like Kingsglaive, Brotherhood and the season pass Kingsglaive was actually okay.
>arguably the most complex jrpg in the market. And its aimed to kids. How many kids give a shit about how complex it is though?
Austin Richardson
They've already shown VII combat, the A replaces the J.
Adam Mitchell
>FFXV sold poorly because it wasn't turn based and not because of the myriad fucking number of problems at SE over the course of a decade
are nintendo fans and/or pokefags actually this retarded?
Alexander Gray
>Completely nonsensical Exactly what FF7 Remake and the compilation is. The game is made from ADHD brain dead fucks who like AC and KH and never played FF7.
Brandon Scott
optional competitive depth is a smart way to appeal to new and old players.
Ryder Morris
thats all just dumb shit that doesn't necessarily reflect on the products quality, just that they're doubling down on it
game aesthetics aside, that message is when you know the game will be objectively of questionable quality
Ethan Peterson
I don't understand why do people want action combat out of RPGs of all things. One of the pillas of RPG design is putting character skill above player skill.
Asher Rogers
Considering there's no other well known RPG where you can battle others, he's right
Brandon Nguyen
>FFXV didn't sell poorly because it told fans of the 30 year old series to go fuck themselves
Jayden Ramirez
So Kingdom Hearts is not a Japanese Role Playing Game because it has Action combat?
>Exactly what FF7 Remake and the compilation is. What?
>The game is made from ADHD brain dead fucks who like AC and KH and never played FF7. I have played them and I still dig it. I kind of love how people act like the old combat was any good at all when it was piss easy. Don't worry though, Nomura has easy mode planned for you guys.
Adrian Green
That's because Pokemon is the CoD of Japan, no matter how much you try to deny it.
Jacob Bell
Wow, good for yakuza 6
Carson Powell
Souls series
>inb4 muh arbitary genre definitions
Gabriel Fisher
Oh yeah, action rpgs from square enix. So much harder. KH is button mashing piece of shit FFXV is a button HOLDING piece of shit
Thanks for proving the ADHD comment correct.
Aaron Bennett
>modernize the genre >by adding in assloads of cutscenes and making non-boss battles easier
Modern games are shit
Benjamin Powell
Don't forget checkpoint that only takes you back 5 seconds before you die
Camden Rogers
>just that they're doubling down on it When they make a bunch of side content to explain details of the story instead of putting it in the game itself they run the risk of spreading it too thin. I haven'y actually played XV yet but it seems like they ended up doing just that.
Ryan Campbell
Thanks for clarifying that you don't actually play the games but you still insist on shitting on them while whining about how others didn't play game X.
The biggest joke is that in FFVII you only had to use attack, heal and buff occasionally to beat that shit with no effort at all. So in a sense you were just brainlessly mashing confirm button.
Grayson Jackson
You do know these sales do not include digital sales, and fucking nobody buys digital shit on nintendo, unlike on ps4, because nintendo's online is absolute dogshit.
Henry Foster
Bravely default It was a barely marketed, new ip, low budget, 240p game. Sold 400k in jp against XV's 800k.
Sorry but we are into something here.
XV even had anime, cars, movies, 10 years of marketing, its own tv show, a shit ton of development updates, etc. For 800k sales and a 90% drop.
Its clear it would have been better received as turn based.
Protip: See Persona 5, a very niche jrpg despise what the fans think (best selling game sold only 1m) doing XV numbers. Oh and its turn based.
Aiden Reyes
sounds like modern games to me
Jacob Jenkins
>[citation needed]
Parker Reyes
>implying wasting hours of time because you forgot to save is any better
*haven't
William Cox
it isn't doing gangbusters because:
A) FFXIII was dogshit. Even normies know this. The next game after a poorly received one always under performs regardless of quality (see: DMC3). FFXI and FFXIV are removed from this equation (even though FFXIV was shit on release also).
B) Character design is just plain bad. No way around it. Outfits are bland, nothing especially fantastical or unique about any of them. They also look like fags, which immediately acts against it for a western audience. Clearly made for Japanese female shut-ins and American land-whale yaoi fans.
C) FF has no brand sway anymore. All the hardcore fans migrated to Dragon Quest or SMT (or even Bravely) since SE only releases one real FF a fucking generation now. All thats left are hipsters with no loyalty who don't even know what a good game looks like.
D) Absolutely nothing about this game has any wow factor. Nothing about it can be shown to normies and make them think "Well hot shit, I gotta play me some of that!". Graphics don't impress anymore and the gameplay is action-light. Boring.
Xavier Moore
Are you so autistic and unable to disconnect from video games that you take a change in gameplay as a personal slight against you?
Blake Perry
People still like turn based. I don't know where this meme keeps coming from that they don't. Just look at Pokemon and Persona.
Connor Flores
I love it when the braindead KHfags prove they really do have ADHD.
Justin Wood
Why do Sup Forums care about sales? shitposting? I mean you should know by yourself what game is good or not.
the problem with final fantasy was that it lose it's own appeal, which was in some part being an impressive, immersive turn based RPG.
If i want action RPG i play tales of. If i want Turn based i play persona.
What's left for FF? yeah no identity thanks.
Benjamin Hernandez
Japs are more into portables and mobile shit as opposed to consoles. That's all it is.
And they have awful shit taste by voting FFXIII as their favorite FF game so that doesn't help either.
Tyler Richardson
Are you such a pathetic brand loyalist that you'll buy anything with certain titles printed on the cover?
Charles Phillips
>My only counter-arguments are to call him a KHfag, braindead and claim that he has ADHD >Yeah, these will definitely prove me right What did you mean by this?
>What's left for FF? yeah no identity thanks. You do realise that you're talking about a game series that constantly switched combat around in different ways, right?
Ian Richardson
>Its clear it would have been better received as turn based. Or maybe it's because the FF franchise just isn't as big of a deal as it used to be? 14 was so bad it had to be rebuilt from square one and it led to the creation of the 13 trilogy when lots of people didn't like 13 to begin with.
Jeremiah Nguyen
This is the only real Final Fantasy game since 2001
Ian Perez
whoa last guardian actually came out? that flew under my radar
Josiah Wilson
Nobody cares that you're a lapsed fan. Go neck yourself with your gunblade bitch nigga
Ryan Lewis
>immersive turn based RPG. You only played 1-3 and 10?
Mediocre as fuck that people meme up because it was 360 exclusive. It's completely forgettable experience.
Daniel Green
>constantly switched combat >FF1-4 are turnbased >FF12 plays itself >FF5-13 are ATB
WOW, so much switching
Isaac Brooks
FFIV is ATB.
Leo Perry
Still mostly turn based for 1-10 and tactics. I know you will say shit about MUH ATB, it's still the same for me. I enjoyed chronicles as a spin off, but the problem is when they give a spin off battle system to a main serie game.
Nathan Hernandez
Just what we needed in addition to the turnfags: Microsoft drones meming about their precious exclusive that people rightly forgot about.
Joseph Richardson
It's sad how FFXV-kun actually succeeded in brainwashing some poor weak anons.
Caleb Clark
Uh, only I-III and X are turnbased. IV-IX, X-2-XIII-3 are all atb games but each one of them switches around aspects of the combat with job systems, materia, junctions and such. It's never the same.
>FF12 plays itself This is a literal dank meme.
>Still mostly turn based for 1-10 No. Funnily enough X-2 to XIII-3 would still be ATB as in, turn-based for you, but for some reason you're skipping them.
> it's still the same for me. And RTS and TBS are the same to me - no difference at all.
Chase Adams
>FFXV-kun Don't mention that nigger, this thread's bad enough already.
Jayden Lopez
>I know you will say shit about MUH ATB, it's still the same for me. People who argue that ATB isn't turn based because the TURN ORDER isn't set have serious mental issues
Owen Williams
That's just another one of the "triple a" industry's forced memes. Some major release of a genre doesn't outsell the yearly cod and all of a sudden it's dead and needs to be reworked into something completely different. It's happened multiple times and it's been wrong almost every time. The lone exception was arguably pc adventure games.
Connor James
Sony swept it under the rug because they knew it was half-baked garbage
Zachary Ward
Final Fantasy brand isn't growing with a new base. It just tries to lure back old fans, even when they say otherwise.
Bravely Default had benefit of being new IP and hiding the fact that they only made 50% of an actual game and then re-used assets all the way to the end.
James Cook
They are trying to derail the thread away from the topic.
FF15 is a failure and FF fans did not want it. The sales prove it.
Jaxon King
I don't give a flying shit about XV-kun.
People who insist on the same old combat when it comes to FF are just plain simply fans of the wrong series since it constantly does combat differently.
Nolan Murphy
FF received permanent damage to their brand from FFXIV 1.0 and the Lightning games. This isn't hard to put together user.
Joshua Ward
wait its bad? like actually bad or didn't live up to the decade of hype bad?
Blake Allen
>Play a turn-based game >You must complete turn before enemy can do theirs
>Play ATB game >Enemy can do their turn without giving a hoot about you
How exactly is it turn-based? I mean ATB is fucking short for ACTIVE TIME BATTLE.
Cameron Evans
"Constantly" as in "In my extremely limited experience that started on PS2"
Samuel Perry
>since it constantly does combat differently. Just stop with this pathetic falsehood.
FF1-10 largely play the same. Just slight differences in turn order and jobs and magic mechanics.
Newsflash Einstein, EVERY JRPG SERIES DOES THIS. Not all Suikoden games have the exact same combat, Not all Wild Arms games have the exact same combat, Not all SMT games have the exact same combat, etc.
Not even fucking Pokemon does.
Camden Powell
It's turn based with an annoying gremlin that yells at you to wade through those menus faster.
Nathan Rodriguez
poor camera control and dull
Not offensively bad, just not especially good. Unlike Ico and SotC, people won't talk about this game in 5 years other than the hype around it.
Lincoln Parker
Because you take literal defined turns you mong. It just isn't round based, technically.
Aiden Miller
>turn order isn't set so I'm not taking a TURN to act Eat shit FFXV-kun.
Don't reply.
Charles King
>FF1-10 largely play the same
Robert Carter
I didn't know Final Fantasy 2 was on PS2!
>FF1-10 largely play the same. Just slight differences in turn order and jobs and magic mechanics. No.
Ayden Lopez
>Le every poster I don't agree with is XV-kun Jesus fuck dude. I haven't even bought XV yet.
>Because you take literal defined turns you mong. How the fuck do I take literal defined turns in ATB when enemy is constantly attacking me?
Joshua Lee
>reaction image and a "no" Great arguments kids. You are wrong.
Now let's get back on topic to how FF15 is a failure.
Dominic Thomas
Final Fantasy was always meant to be realtime, you idiots.
