Do you have one of these in your desktop?
If so, when was the last time you used it, and what for?
Do you have one of these in your desktop?
If so, when was the last time you used it, and what for?
Yes, yesterday.
Watching bad B-movies on those DVD collections you get for like a dollar.
I have a Blu-ray drive and I use it to watch movies.
Yes.
Last month or so.
Yes
For Diablo 2 and watching mst3k dvds.
I used it to Burn PS2 games for my modded PS2.
That's it.
And yes I do. I used it once when I had to boot something for a client, but I haven't used it since.
I did not use that thing in like 5 years, everything is online now
>mst3k
my nigger
No but I have an external usb bluray player as a precaution.
I don't use it often.
I do.
I burned a PSX game some days ago and it didn't work.
Life sucks.
I use a laptop for gaming. It does not have a disc drive.
Yes
To install Drivers when I built it
I believe I have a DVD drive in my three year old desktop, but I have never ever used it. Most of my old PC games are at my parents, so I just download the odd old game.
not "in" it, but I keep an external drive packed and take it out only when I need it
which is rare I guess, I do have some old games and collection but I never really use it anymore, I typically download/redownload stuff instead
I use it to install my old PC games. Steam will never jew me out of $2 to rebuy Civ III
I took it out, got my motherboard drivers on a USB stick
Last time I used one would be when I put music from a CD on my mom's phone
I burn family video DVDs for old ladies for like $70
Shits pretty cash
No, but I have an external drive.
I used it to install my launch copy of GTASA three weeks ago.
Last Time I used it was for installing the OS on the PC
Like 4 years ago
Reinstalling Windows about a year ago. My hard drive is about to die so i'll have to do it again soon
I dont even have it in my PC so why would I need it in a laptop?
2 days ago to play gran turismo 3 on an emulator
I forgot I was even supposed to have one of these its been 5 years since I even had a need for one and that was when I got the urge to reinstall Diablo 2 before I rebuilt my PC.
I think the last time was installing the original crysis.
No, I haven't had an optical drive installed in years
Just finished transferring both my rigs into S340 cases, so not anymore. But I use them from time to time. One of my mobos is all fucky about booting from USB, so I kept one of the DVD drives just in case I need to unfuck something.
To install Windows 7
nope.
my new computer case doesnt even have a space for optical drives. good riddance.
Last night to rip CDs. Physical all the way.
No, I went full digital for everything. I wish my consoles wouldn't have disc drives so they would be cheaper.
Don't have one my man, the last PC game on a disc that I played was AoE2 back when that was a big deal. But now that I think about it, I may buy an external drive so that I can take some CDs full of old family photos and back those up.
Everyday. Worthwhile 20
I have a blu-ray drive. Last I used it was to install drivers.
A few weeks ago to rip some CDs to FLAC.
Yes, I have to burn CDs for my car every three weeks or so.
This. B-movies and especially B-scifi movies are the tits.
>MST3K
You're a real nigga, user.
Have one in but it's not connected.
I removed it 2 years ago when it started getting stuck and never felt the need to replace it.
Externals any good?
>Do you have one of these in your desktop?
I have one in my 2016 Skylake laptop for installing Windows 7.
My desktop doesn't feature outdated 2000 technology, it has pic related.
>blurays
>not outdated
lol
I still use it to rip CDs of obscure shit no one buys.
ops forgot the second question
>If so, when was the last time you used it
Last week.
>and what for?
Writing backups to disc.
i took mine out last year and cant fuckin find it anymore
Last month, to play Black and White and Evil Genius.
>blurays
>not outdated
BD-XL is current technology.
Unless you are going
>muh cars outdated, I use bicycle, the vehicle of the future!
I use it to burn eurobeat for my car.
I have a blu-ray drive. Mostly for movies that I own physically.
My mom asks me to burn CDs for her every now and then. Two weeks ago was the last time. Also I insist on still having one because I distrust USB boots for OS installation. Those have never worked for me before.
All forms of discs are obsolete now. It's simpler and easier to just download games. You can prefer discs but they're an obsolete technology.
Used it to boot windows when I was having problems a while back. That's it.
formatting and reinstallin windows
Useful for installing operating systems, burning PS1, PS2, and Dreamcast when the mood strikes. It's also useful to have a spindle of blank DVD's around, you never know when they're going to come in handy.
no
Been CDDVDless since 2009 and never needed one ever.
I'm considering to build my next pc without one, but I'm not sure. I do use it sometimes to digtize music-CDs, watch borrowed DVDs or install old games. And I guess there are still times when physical games are cheaper.
Yes, about a week ago
I loaded up Dune 2000 broham
I use it from time to time for my old collection
Yes, its unplugged though, can't remember the last time i used it.
What is this
>I'm considering to build my next pc without one
Remember that the motherboard driver comes on a disc and you need to install the motherboard driver in order to use the internet
Put the disc in some folder on a USB stick before you build your computer
>All forms of discs are obsolete now.
LMAO
>It's simpler and easier to just download games.
Yeah, on your phone, you fucking casual.
>You can prefer discs but they're an obsolete technology.
They are as obsolete as cars with internal combustion engine. They will survive you, while your third worlder ass starves to death.
BD are just a useless form of storage due to pricing really.
Writable BD DL are expensive as fuck. And that's just writable, not even talking about BD-RE DL which cost 3 times more.
A pack of 20 BD DL (so 1TB) is nearly £40 here. That's the price of a mechanical 1TB drive... Buying couple USB sticks or SDcards would nearly cost the same as well.
Music from a CD is already digitised you wang
Yes. I use it every now and then to burn dreamcast games and music fir my car since i have no aux port or working tape deck
Nope, I haven't had one of those in my desktop in about 4 years, it's easier to use a USB DVD drive
Still buy games I'm expecting to sink a lot of time into, and have DRM-free boxed release, in box. Witcher 3 was the last.
It's nice to have.
Also got a ton of boxed PC games from way back that I play now and then. I'm seeing them slowly all find their way to GoG, but they're still missing a bunch.
>discniggers calling people with good internet connections third worlders
A couple days ago to reinstall Halo 2 and like two weeks before that to rewatch Scott Pilgrim. Before that? Can't even remember
Couple days ago, installed Stalker Clear Sky
>BD are just a useless form of storage due to pricing really.
Pricing is irrelevant.
>Writable BD DL are expensive as fuck.
Nobody uses those.
>A pack of 20 BD DL (so 1TB) is nearly £40 here. That's the price of a mechanical 1TB drive...
3.5in hard drive technology is outdated. Bluray will survive it.
>Buying couple USB sticks or SDcards would nearly cost the same as well.
Only complete retards create backups on USB memory sticks and SD featuring flash memory with one year retention time.
>people with good internet connections third worlders
Because that's the only thing their shitholes have. Including free wi-fi. panem & circensis.
That's why they brag about it all the time.
We all know third worlders can't afford pressed discs. All they've ever seen in life is pirated CD-Rs.
>discniggers literally rewriting the rules of reality to justify using discs in 2016
>playing only facebook games
>calling other discniggers
For GTA5. And I'll continue to use them for large games that get physical releases.
Who the fuck is going to create backup on discs? That's just as retarded.
Obviously when I mentioned SD cards/USB thumbs it wasn't meant to be backups but a way to conveniently distribute data or transport data from A to B.
Like you want to share large file with a bunch of colleagues, it's cheaper to buy a bunch of USB thumb that you can at least fucking re-use that crappy BD DL which cost a fortune, won't be readable by 90% of people not having desktop PCs with BD player anymore and will get scratched.
As for backups retard, you just use 3.5in large HDDs, it's cheaper, faster and easily updated. Yes HDD failure rate is rather high long term, but you just make several backup if you aren't stupid. Buying 2x1TB drives is still more convenient than buying a stack of BD DL which: cannot be updated once data is written on it, can easily be lost/damaged, will require you to split your backup archive into several parts, is more complicated to restore....
tried to watch akira, but have to pay to watch movies with the disk drive with native windows 10
Yes I do. Last time I used it was a week ago, rewatched TRON Legacy on blu-ray (yes I have a blu-ray drive in my pc). And for vidya purposes I used it something like two weeks ago, reinstalled Prey.
>implying we have a choice with more and more ISPs setting caps and their monopoly allowing them to have shit speeds
Yes, for installing Windows and watching movies.
>windows 10
>Who the fuck is going to create backup on discs? That's just as retarded.
Anybody who wants to keep his data safe.
>As for backups retard, you just use 3.5in large HDDs, it's cheaper, faster
This 1970s tech is outdated. 2020 and later you will even face difficulties to read those, even if they still work.
>and easily updated.
You don't "update" backups, that completely destroys the purpose.
>muh don't create backups using 2006 technology
>use 1950s technology instead, five years before it finally dies!
>backing up to discs
Magnetic tape will survive HDDs too. Isn't that cute?
I just use my ps4/xbox 360 as a DVD player now.
And
>implying you cant download drivers before hand and putting them on USB
Pretty sure windows have basic sound, video and internet drivers, unless you use XP
Nope. Built it without ever installing one of those, and even installed my OS without one.
>assemble computer and install windows
>older version of windows 7 that didn't include network drivers for my mobo
>only usb 3.0 ports that can't handle 2.0 without drivers
>drivers are on a dvd, but doesn't have a dvd-reader only cd and floppy at home
>Pretty sure windows have basic sound, video and internet drivers, unless you use XP
Nope, not always.
A few months ago when I reinstalled Win. 7
>only usb 3.0 ports that can't handle 2.0 without drivers
my condolences
Always unless
>new networking adapter released in new mobo and you buy it like a retard
>not using the latest .iso from Micro$oft
My previously mentioned method still stays
I do and I use it to burn PS2/Wii DVDs and DVD5 movies for my aunt.
i have two, ones a bluray drive. i burnt rush 2049 for my dreamcast last night
>yes goy install the hottest new Windows 10 spyware now, don't forget to hook up your webcam!
retard
>Muh microsoft gonna spy on me because I am relevant
>Implying you dont give away more info to google
>I use muh transparent linux
>LG
lol no.
I use mine to rip CD audio and take screenshots of DVDs.
and occasionally to install older games that I never get around to playing.
You must feel pretty big for swindling old people, fucking retard.
This and it sucks. My old laptop had a disc drive but my new one doesn't. Really regretting not spending a bit extra for a 17.3" display and a disc drive.
like 2 weeks ago to reinstall my copy of SW:Galactic Battlegrounds + expansion
pretty much the same, but I've burned some games for my dreamcast too
