I just finished this game

I just finished this game

Let's talk about it.

Too many transformations that do too little. Not as good as pirate's curse, and it's variety of rapidly switchable weapons. Overworld replaced with a hub and level select making it a little too linear. Too much backtracking, running through most levels at least three times a piece. Genie upgrades no longer bestowed by sultry giant statues with huge cement titties, now it's just rainbow fairy land background. Much less sexual tension. Spoiler: Once again prohibits any proper closure by only alluding to her mom existing

Oh and she's way more pale in her game portrait, almost ghost white in the sprite art

Who the fuck made her not brown? She's supposed to be brown dammit.

nothing to talk about since most of us haven't even been able to play it because not a single one of you fucks uploaded the files

REEEEEEEEEEEEEE sage

The game must be hot trash with how many negative things I've read backers saying

Show me where they're talking about it.

Half genie hero is a good game.

But Pirate's Curse was lightning in a bottle, an incredible game.

Just a few things about it posted on Sup Forums about it being really short and feeling unfinished.

Why was the first Shantae game the best one?

I checked the screenshots I took of my final game times for the other shantae games. 1/2 genie hero and PC both took a little under six hours both, with Risky's Revenge being much shorter.

Maybe they should hang it up eh folks? Maybe make another game and let Shawnie die? Maybe sell off Shawnie to another dev with more resources? Maybe sell her to Sega?

i liked it

any vore in this game?

My immediate reaction was disappointment upon finding out it isn't a true metroid vania like Shantae 1, it's more similar to Monster World IV, and the dancing is severely compared to the first game, but so far I'm enjoying it despite not being as rich as the original. I'm hoping the next game pushes the genre and gameplay as far is it can, like how Mega Man had Mega Man X, and Castlevania had Super Castlevania IV. Shante needs deeper gameplay and deeper world design/level design.

Maybe shut the fuck up?

I don't have time to play this.

dancing was severely dumbed down*
Removing the dance in a new Shantae would be comparable to Majora's Mask keeping the ocarina but taking away the ability to actually play it

I loved Pirate's Curse. Each upgrade gave Shantae a new function, like slow descent in the air, shooting, or charging.

Now in order to do any of that you have to select the transformation, do it, then untransform.

I'd rather have 4 viable transformations that can all fight (enabling me to remain in any given form like in Marjoa's Mask) rather than need a transfomation to a moment then needing to revert back.

PLayed it through and through, 100% completion. 8 hours of solid gameplay with Shantae only.

I was entertained.

I am currrently waiting on the extra modes of Risky, Bolo, Sky and Rottytits

I haven't played the other 2 Shantae games, but I'll get around to it after HGH.
Yeah, it gets much better when you upgrade your transformations but you have a point. WayForward should take some inspiration from Monster World II: the Dragon's Trap, that's a great Super Master System metroid vania that involves transforming into different creatures.

it's III

Also yes, I couldn't stop thinking about that game as I played this one. That game was a masterpiece.

Is it at least longer than Pirate's Curse?
If not, why did they even need to Kickstart HGH and how did they find the funding for Pirate's Curse?

Sega Master System*

It's the fourth Wonder Boy, the second called Wonder Boy III, but its the second Monster World game.
The way they localized the titles of that series is a clusterfuck, I hate it.

Both PC and 1/2 GH are a little under six hours each.

However 1/2 GH I felt had a lot more backtracking and the penultimate level was on the short side (with only two hidden items compared to the typical 7).

I can't speak for the funding

However this is still a worthy game.

PC is superior, its gameplay is fluid and precise. PC demands you to perform complicated stunts with a full combination of your powers while

Yeah I've always really abhored the naming convention for that series.

At least there are two more games in the franchise coming at us maybe next year.

Maybe.

Cut myself off

PC is superior, its gameplay is fluid and precise. PC demands you to perform complicated stunts with a full combination of your powers while in 1/2 GH you only have to perform a transformation-specific task like flying as the harpy only.

I would really like a true sequel from the original WestOne team and the art designer from MW III and MW IV. The French MW II remake looks great though. Not sure about the mobile Wonder Boy remake, I'll try it whenever it comes out.

>PC demands you to perform complicated stunts with a full combination of your powers while in 1/2 GH you only have to perform a transformation-specific task like flying as the harpy only.
The gameplay mechanics in general are fucking different.

That's the mode of play we're getting later.

They need to make a game that combines the best attributes of these two.

As a hobby I write video game reviews. What do you think about this?

Once again imbued with her magic powers, Shantae has access to a record-breaking twelve transformations. Each form bears a unique function that allows you to further unravel a level on subsequent playthroughs.

There's plenty of fresh, risque content to pique your interest. Several new, cute enemies are bound to catch your eye. It's refreshing to see fantasy mainstays like ghosts and slimes portrayed as cute, sultry ladies. Newcomers and familiar faces both are given a fresh look as the entire game is now beautifully rendered and animated in cel art, an upgrade from those classic pixels.

The storyline remains as lighthearted and humorous as ever. Progressing the story once again hinges upon catering to fetch quests and revisting old levels with new powers. Levels are now incredibly linear, A tremendous amount of effort has been put into developing the bosses, and it really shows.

Unfortunately I must temper my praise by pointing out the fundamental glaring flaws.

continued here

Several transformations and their upgrades go nearly or entirely unused. Most forms can't attack by default, and those that can be upgraded to strike are not viable compared to Shantae's regular form. This game should have focused on four main transformations, consolidating their abilities (Mermaid and crab have too much overlap) and giving them decent attacks. Majora's Mask did it better.

I love going back to a level with new powers to find new items. Here I ended up repeating the same levels four or more times, well beyond being able to enjoy my revisits. The game is entirely linear and level based (think Megaman) so now the world feels less interconnected and more sterile. Unlocking new transfomrations no longer fills me with any sense of wonder. There are no dungeons, and the pentultimate level is painfully brief.

Amazing art direction coupled with Jake Kaufman's musical powess make for a winning combination. Half Genie Hero is another wonderful installment, but doesn't hit the same high notes as Pirate's Curse.
