>Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, has revealed that you will need an Internet connection to play Super Mario Run. Speaking with Mashable, Miyamoto said that the decision had been taken to combat the game’s piracy. “For us, we view our software as being a very important asset for us,” he added.
Brayden Bell
So basically the game is unplayable if you're outside in a rural area where 2G is considered a rarity.
Ethan Price
nobody will "defend this", as nobody fucking cares
Isaiah Williams
Anyone has access to internet 24/7 nowadays, idiot. That's far from being an issue. I'll day-one buy it anyway, enjoy, and you Sonyggers can stay jealous that we have games to play.
Nathaniel Miller
nintendrone here literally don't care because its a smartphone game. why not shitpost about an an actual game?
Brandon Bell
Not even Nintendo fans will defend this. Sorry but you'll have to come up with a new bait pasta
Hunter Turner
>The entire world is New York and Seattle
Levi Evans
Jealous over a smartphone game? You're delusional.
Ryan Gomez
>jealous
>sidescrolling temple run with NSMB 2 skin
okay
Michael Sanchez
It's a fucking smartphone game you retarded shitter, you know with access to internet as long as you're not in some backwater shitfest?
If you don't have a smartphone in [almost 2017] for God's sakes why don't you just fall off the face of the Earth you literal nobodies.
Adrian Foster
WHO CARES? im not paying $10 for a mobile game.
Aiden Baker
I don't even live in any of those places and I'll be able to play Super Mario Run whenever I want.
Logan White
>combat the game's piracy >gets cracked within a day Screencap this. Nintendo is horrible at security.
Carson Watson
Has a mobile game ever been cracked before?
Angel Moore
Well, all the "I have unlimited Data so everyone does" people are here, so i guess that's already /thread
of course, user
Cooper Jones
>the rest of the world is timbuktu
Henry Carter
>It's a mario with auto run
>Can't be played on the airplane.
Back to the 3ds NEXT.
Dylan Ross
>£7.99 for a mobile game with always online DRM
top kek
Sebastian Lopez
What's to defend exactly? This is actually fairly common practice within mobile games.
Sebastian Wilson
Why even own a smartphone if you live in a place with almost no cell service?
Jace Brooks
>for iPhone and iPad Oh Oh well I'll just stop paying attention anyway then
Hudson Brooks
Riddle me this, user.
Why in the world are you playing a phone game or even using a phone in an area where there's no cell service anyway?
Asher Smith
>cell service is the same as consistent data connection >data is free
astounding how everyone in the modern world can have one of these things in their pocket yet not understand some of the absolute basics regarding the device
Nicholas Clark
>Cool looking 2D platforming game on iphone Holy shit I can't wait >Needs internet connection to play WHY
Charles Gonzalez
>SONYGGER!!!!! Every fucking time with you losers. Grow up. This bad decision was bought to you by N I N T E N D O
Robert Morgan
>everyone has unlimited data >if you can make a call, you have consistent data >there is no reason to own a smartphone if you don't have a good connection
this thread speaks volumes about the current Sup Forums userbase
Clearly microsoft was just a couple years early with the DRM-ridden version of the Xbone
Andrew Reyes
Na its just Nintendrones showing their IQ average
Blake Perez
I was referring to data service, not voice/SMS. If all you get most of the time is voice and SMS, you're better off getting a $5 flip phone. Things are damn near indestructible and can go for a week without charging. There's no point in having a device that depends on a constant internet connection for the majority of its features if you don't have a constant connection.
Lucas Howard
Anyone why would you be using a phone in an area with no internet service?
Why would you use a phone without the internet turned on?
You're not a pirate are you?
Andrew Hernandez
>Game is offline >People just download the apk and play for free.
I mean someone will probably patch it so you can, but considering how incredibly easy it is to pirate games on an android is basic business security sense.
Wyatt Allen
>Implying it's releasing for Android
topkek
Ethan Bailey
Many of the most popular Jp mobile games like puzzle and dragons are online only
Thomas Roberts
>this falseflag is actually getting (You)s well played
Ryder Ross
just like Nintendo's other massively successful mobile game this year who would've guessed?
Juan Lee
Wait, is it iphone exclusive? That's just silly.
Juan Ross
Mobile runners and certain JRPGs on mobile platforms have been online-only or have required online verification for quite some time now. Why single out this particular game?
Noah Bailey
timed.
Kayden Kelly
>pretend to be nintendrone >mention sony >hardware doesn't matter
How to shitpost 101
Elijah Morris
It is, just not immediately because Apple paid them for a timed exclusive. Also pirating games on iOS is piss easy, you just need to jailbreak it first.
Isaac Turner
I can't
-handwrite notes -listen to music -play emulators -record HD video and take HD pictures -view said media
on a $5 flip phone (at least nowhere to the same degree). The word smartphone is really stupid considering they are pocket computers that have the added advantage of cell phone features
don't be a closed-minded ninny. None of those require internet access of any kind and can be done with the SIM card removed.
Thomas Murphy
Yes. I used to do it a lot
Eli Murphy
So is Diablo 3, and there's people that defend that.
Tyler Myers
Then get a PDA or used smartphone. If you want something for entertainment you're much better off getting a tablet or laptop.
Hunter Nguyen
nothing more cathartic than seeing those same people griping about being unable to play on launch day and being rightfully harangued for daring to moan about it after being so fucking for the system they put in place
Goddamn I love it when other people are wrong
Jaxon Bell
I'm more pissed about it only having 24 short ass levels.
Adam Scott
what the fuck kind of logic is this >hurr not online why hav smartphone >these reasons >oh well buy a used smartphone
I legitimately don't know what the fuck you think is going on here, but I own a new-ish smartphone, cell service can be spotty, ESPECIALLY when I'm travelling (when i'm most likely to be messing around with games on my phone). Most of the things I do work fine regardless of cell service. Nintendo going on about 'muh piracy' is simply ensuring they'll never get my money because the game might be unplayable
I don't see what's so goddamn hard to understand about this.
Jason Price
more like pirates will be angry about this, you fat slob
Oliver Johnson
>Make a game for a handheld. >You need a stable source of internet to play our games >Meaning you can't play in a park, train, mcdonalds, you know, the places that japs loves to play their handhelds.
Nintendo loves to shoot themselves on the foot itseems.
Sebastian Lee
are you a time traveller from the 70s? we have wireless data now gramps
Matthew Brooks
>legit buyers: "shit i can't play my $8 game because i don't have a solid connection right now" >Pirates: "i'll try it if it's cracked"
If they didn't care enough to pay, they aren't going to lose their fucking minds that they can't play it while saving a few dollars
this mindset is so bizarre
Joseph Long
I wonder how they're going to fuck up animal crossing and fire emblem. I expect fire emblem to be a gatcha game you have to pay $15 ala all the bravest.
Adam Evans
Super Mario Running up my bandwidth cost
Ryan Bennett
>wireless hot-spots (which is much more common in japan >personal data
Pretty easy to get connected in Japan, I'd just be pissed off here in Australia where like 2 places have hotspots.
Charles Powell
>play at mcdonalds hotspot >weak signal drops, switches to LTE >break your record score >leaderboard not updated
get ready.
Liam Reed
>I wonder how they're going to fuck up animal crossing
The amiibo-required board game and fucky dollhouse weren't enough? Splitting up a mainline FE game into two seperate games? Screwing with an SMT/FE crossover to the point where it's neither?
Jordan Gomez
The problem for the millionth fucking time isn't that it's always online, it's that it's a mediocre runner. I'd say shitty but that's only for unplayable mobile games
The problem is, Nintendo doesn't want to put any effort in their mobile game that features Mario. You'd think the flagship character gets a quality game on mobile but no.
If you actually are educated in the mobile gaming industry or know two shits about good games and can find them; you'll know there are plenty of better runners out there
This is just some mundane running game with Mario slapped on that provides no inherent reason to play other than being Mario. The fact that it's online at all times doesn't help its case, and certainly neither is the hefty price tag when there are plenty of other games with neither and have quality
TL;dr: Problem here is, it's a mediocre piece of shit on mobile. Not that it's always online or with a price. Why play this when there's plenty of better runners out there? As a result, a mediocre game with nothing to offer that has BOTH a hefty price tag AND a required online link at all times will just turn more people away
Xavier Flores
just because always online isn't the BIGGEST problem doesn't mean it isn't a pointless annoyance to inflict on the people dumb enough to buy it
two piles of shit is two piles of shit, regardless of size
Hudson Turner
This man knows what he's talking about
Cock sucking aside, you can't expect this board to know anything about mobile gaming. All they think it is, is clash of clans or Japanese waifu simulator. That's the problem with this board and it won't ever change. Not even by dropping knowledge. But you're right, people are shitting on the game for the wrong specific reasons and not seeing the big picture
Carson Nguyen
>The problem is, Nintendo doesn't want to put any effort in their mobile game that features Mario kek
Angel Green
>just because always online isn't the BIGGEST problem doesn't mean it isn't a pointless annoyance to inflict on the people dumb enough to buy it >two piles of shit is two piles of shit, regardless of size Which is why I'm saying that OP and Sup Forums is attacking this from the wrong point of view
There are other online required games out there, plenty of them. But they all have a purpose beyond just "piracy." From the small indie dev to the huge companies, they do pull this shit with some of their games but it has PURPOSE
People here aren't addressing the fact that it's a mediocre runner game that literally serves no purpose in playing other than being Mario (no collecting coins isn't what sets it apart). Add this mediocrity, which is the core problem, plus the fact that it needlessly requires online at all times AND a overpriced tag attatched to it and you got yourself a fucking mess
Aiden Lopez
>we're not bitching about the game itself at this present moment so we never have and never will
No, we're responding to new information that further damages the game on top of all the shit we've lambasted them for previously. We've known about this game for months. If anything we've overdiscussed this shit
Nathan Bell
>hotspot again, what year are we in?
Brody Cooper
All smartphones are always online you retard
Anthony Long
I'm guessing you've never played one of the thousands of match-three games that have timed, server-side life counts? This isn't uncommon at all.
Tyler Morgan
If it came to Android it would get cracked in no time. Also, nobody cares about mobile games.
Levi Murphy
>bandwidth cap in 2017
Austin Morgan
>i guess you've never been to the middle east
he says to the horrified onlookers while beheading a man in times square
Jonathan Russell
>the consumer is in control of the horrid monopolized market that is cell service in North America
yeah, no.
Lucas Perry
lmao, better not watch those youtube videos or you'll be paying more for those extra GBs :^)
Kayden Thomas
The entire world is San Francisco with free Wi-Fi. What do you complain about?
Oliver Mitchell
>If you actually are educated in the mobile gaming industry or know two shits about good games and can find them; you'll know there are plenty of better runners out there And most people don't, so it's not hard to figure out why this will be successful.
Parker Ramirez
It records text of every word you speak and saves copies of all of your texts so that Nintendo can sell your personal data to marketing companies. But yeah I'm sure you'll be fine if you've never wrote anything that's politically incorrect.
