What the fuck were they thinking with that early version of Doom 4? Call of Doom. So glad they came to their senses.
This was surprisingly good.
>actual footage of old Doom 4
Neat.
I have a Geforce gtx 680, will Doom run smoothly in 1080p?
Watched it today, they scrapped the old version for the best. Doom 4 is amazing, I don't care about the multiplayer.
That's the sort of garbage that was popular and making millions at the time (and still is to a certain extent), id was creatively bankrupt and thought that was a good direction to take Doom
Posting this fucking thread every day, no one cares about your videos, go back to the UK fagget.
neat
I want to hang out with Hugo, and that's not just because he worked on one of my favourite games from my childhood
>UK
Fuck off Amerifat
Gotta respect them for being honest about Call of Doom though. Can't be easy to talk about such unpopular stuff.
This
I was shocked to find that it was Kevin Cloud who was directing it. I get that he, as an artist, wanted to explore that concept, but that was what RAGE was meant to be about. He should have just worked on RAGE and it might have been more interesting.
Overall Doom 4's development should be a testament to listening to the fans. It turned out so much better because of it.
They even redid some of the monsters because people thought they looked too boring.
watched it yesterday
it was interesting to see the scrapped version of doom and it was clearly awkward for them to talk about it
i'm interested to see what they have to say about that abortion of a combat system they cooked up
cool
Shit, I actually have to watch this now.
>It's basically a rage reskin with "demons"
Eh? could have been decent?
I'm guessing it was carmack and clouds idea originally for the scrapped game?
nuDOOM was fucking terrible. turned a fucking shooter into a painkiller clone but in small ass fucking rooms
Decent as its own IP or another Rage game, sure, but Doom? No, it would've been shit.
Isn't Painkiller a shooter though?
any 'shooter' with locked down rooms until you kill every enemy is not a shooter
>giving the faggot Danny O'Dwyer views.
lol no thanks.
Isn't a shooter just referring to the combat being revolved around purely shooting with weaponry?
Level design has nothing to do with shooters.
One of the best FPS' ever made.
they only mention it briefly that the glory kill crap was brought over from the scrapped game where if you were close to an enemy it would enter a finisher animation they just recycled that idea and made it quicker
>carmack
who knows, cloud was the producer but ultimately it was bethesda that stepped in and cancelled it
the similarities are pretty fucking minor when you look at it as a whole
I'm not saying Doom is good but painkiller and Sam are a different kettle of fish in many ways
A lot of the Nu-Doom content, the Hell levels in particular, looked like RAGE leftovers.
>danny o cucker
fuck off and go worship your hideous hag wife
That's what you're going to get with modern graphics.
I liked that early on they had semi-open maps that only locked you into certain areas attached to a hub.
I hope they do more of than in an expansion or sequel. It was a shame they abandoned that after a few levels
>DOOM 2016, a game where you play from a first-person perspective and shoot at demons with guns
>is not a shooter because of user's arbitrary line-drawing
You're twelve shades of stupid, you know.
That's an awfully specific parameter for exclusion.
>Level design has nothing to do with shooters.
You are a fucking idiot.
Doom was built entirely around level design and the excuse of "level design doesn't matter" is what got us linear corridor shooters.
Doom 2016 has good level design though, what are you on about? You can not like how the encounters are set up, but those are not interchangeable complaints.
>not posting the best documentary
kill yourself
Those are about two different games, though the retroahoy one is great.
Definitely not Carmack.
>At one point, a source told me, the Doom 4 team had a big meeting in which company leaders talked about what Doom meant to them. John Carmack got up in front of everyone and said something like, "Doom means two things: demons and shotguns."
>I liked that early on they had semi-open maps
they started off pretty strong then after 3rd or 4th level the whole thing went into a nosedive, I assume they ran out of time or something and had to butcher all the levels
overall the level design and encounters were pretty weak even at their best
>Doom 2016 has good level design though, what are you on about?
It did.
I'm just saying that anyone who says "level design doesn't matter in shooters", especially a arena shooter is a jackass.
yeah that sounds like carmack
That's fair.
ran surprisingly well on my 770. 60fps and most setting on high
Doom 2k16 could have been 10/10 if the double jump was given at the beginning as well as scrapling the upgrades and just giving you the guns with certain alt fires. And then balancing the level design around it. Why oh why did they have to make it "arena" based fixed enemy placement is almost always better
Isn't there new game +?
Why is Sup Forums obsessed with buzzwords?
Arcade mode is coming soon which gives you full access to everything, removes locked-player cutscenes and lets you go to town. Heck, it might already be out.
you can go back and replay levels with the upgrades you get later one but nothing actually changes
why are you on Sup Forums

Came out like a month or two ago
Yeah, Ahoy is pretty based
