No

Give me one reason why we should care if it's a fighting game or not

...

What else? To ensure EVO never has a troll-free discussion on this board.

...

But it's a game where I fight.

that's the cast to bebop high school right?
they all look so familiar

Of course not. It's a competitive action game.

No

Yes

How about the Ultimate Ninja Storm games? Are they fighting games?

>no directional inputs
>no fixed jumps
>no high-low or left-right mixups
>just uses 2 buttons for attacks
>can run all over the fucking place
>no footsies
>no wakeup game
>no setplay
>no yomi

doesn't sound like a fighting game at all.

Maybe

I don't know

What actually defines a fighting game, and how does any of the smash games fall short of it?

can you repeat the question

Can't have anything to do with Nintendo

YOU'RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME NOW

Is Pokken not a fighting game?

Is it an fighting game?

No

ok, then what is it? how about this, is a side-scrolling game in which you fight enemies that doesn't have the feel and structure of a brawler or the focus on platforming of platformer a fighting game? what else do you call a fixed-arena competitive game in which your focus is on fighting other characters with characteristic movesets and strengths/weaknesses?

I'd call it a watered-down very non-technical fighting game, but still one none the less, because it doesn't seem quite casual or broad in scope enough to be called a "party game" with any real meaning, but I can't think of any more appropriate descriptor

...

Smash is very technical

but isn't that the biggest argument for it not being a fighting game? or do I misunderstand and it comes down to not having to use combos as inputs?

It is, just not a good one

No one fucking cares you nerd

Rephrase?
It's fantastic

Well that's wrong.
