SFV gets a lot of patches here and there that add new characters, stages, costumes, etc., but this is the first "big" patch. Like, the equivalent to a Dota 2 balance patch, or Super Street Fighter IV to vanilla Street Fighter IV

If your connection drops on its own that's your problem, Capcom doesn't care that you don't have 1st world internet infrastructure.

I havent gotten regular disconnects in battles for months.

It's not actually. The messages for RQer and normal player are different. If you RQ you get "Connection to server was lost" or something like that. If your opponent quits you get "Connection with opponent was lost".

Ken always looked fine. The game is just plagued with awkward shots and lighting. Every character that looks weird looks way better in the story mode cinematics. .

Its the face rigging. Ken looks less terrible ingame than in character select even though its the same model.
