Tifa's actual line in the Japanese version is telling Barret not to say such unlucky things as a response to him lamenting that he wanted to see Marlene one more time.

FF7 was a silly game.

I've been playing through FFVII to practice my Jap and while some of the translations are real bad like OP's, there's some stuff where they did a pretty good job even when the original line is hard to translate directly.

For example when Don Corneo asks what Cloud wants to do in the bedroom, in the original Cloud says "Whatever you want" but he does the thing you see flirty or horny female characters do in anime and such where he says it very slowly and seductively with a small pause between each kana (あなたのス・キ・な・コ・ト) which is a hilarious mental image. They translated it as "Whatever YOU want, daddy" which doesn't carry quite the same meaning but it also manages to be a pretty great line.

Yeah this. I played through the Nip version a couple years ago, it was pretty fun. I didn't understand Scarlet's comment about Reeve talking funny, or why Cait Sith randomly started speaking in a southern accent toward the end of the game until I played the Japanese version. I'll play the remake just to see what they do to the localization.

The real answer should be because it did a lot of weird and cool stuff that make it stand out even today, which is especially impressive considering its AAA status. The whole game has an air around it that makes it feel kind of like a fever dream, and not just because of the translation.
