Worth it to get a PS3 just to play MGS4?

Worth it to get a PS3 just to play MGS4?

I recently started getting into the MGS series, and I'm loving it so far. I've been playing the games through PCSX2.

Yea, and many other games too.

PS3 has a god tier library, and its all dirt cheap

>Worth it to get a PS3 just to play MGS4?
Nope.
PS3 has plenty of other games, but if you only want MGS4 then I wouldn't recommend it

youtube.com/watch?v=TqayJfcb1PU just watch this mgs4 is more movie than a game, its the most feel mgs and u get allmost every feel from cutscenes.

Fuck you,

OP play the game, seriously. MGS is not a series you watch

bump

As a huge fan of 1, 2 and 3, 4 is one of the worst games I've ever played.

I did exactly that, then found done other titles with playing like Demon's Souls and such.

Yes, and don't listen to Sup Forums, mgs 4 is one of the best games of all time

got ya fampai

this has every game.

if you can't get it for some reason, just buy HD collection off PSN store (MGS2, MGS3, MGS Peace Walker) and MGS1 (ps1 copy).

Play them in release order:

MGS1 > MGS2 > MGS3 > MGS4 > Peace Walker > Ground Zeroes > MGSV

Play the really old Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake for more backstory of the whole series.

Ignore anything else named metal gear such as "Twin Snakes" and "ACID" all garbage and non canon.

Yes. Fuck the memers. 4 is my favorite.

how do you feel about revengence

how far have you gotten in the series, OP?

4 is great, but if you get a ps3 to play it then you should check out the other great games for the console as well.

worth playing. villians are god tier, story is garbage

Huge MGS fan here. I just did this. don't bother. just watch the movie.

revengeance is fantastic but it's a spin-off both in gameplay and story, don't play it expecting good writing

Nah you don't get it

4 is a commentary by Kojima of the situation he was at the time.

Product placement, guns, Raiden and Meryl returning, B&B unit, it all ties to the real world. Everything carries a meaning.

Take this from an actual MGS fan :^)

If you can get a ps3 and mgs4 for under $75 then yes.

>purposefully missing out on the amazing final boss of mgs4.

What's your problem?

>MGS4
>play

No, unless you pay maybe 20 for it.
any more and you should look for games at at least twice the cost of the console.
Alternatively, look for a way to resell the console afterwards.

No, it's part of the dullest franchise in the history of game franchises. Each episode following the one eyed undercover agent and his pals from FOXHOUND as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the anime humour, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of cutscenes, all to make the games seem like a movie, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Kojima vetoed the idea of someone talented directing the series; he made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for his other games (Snatcher/Policenauts). The Metal Gear series might be anti-gaming (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-Splinter Cell series in its refusal of wonder, good storytelling and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the writing and themes were good though
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the themes were terrible. As I played, I noticed that every game ends with the same Anti Nuclear message.

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that ending was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Kojima's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that he has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Metal Gear Solid by the same J.J. Abrams. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these manchildren are playing Metal Gear Solid at 18 or 20, then when they get older they will go on to watch J.J. Abrams." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you play "Metal Gear" you are, in fact, trained to watch J.J. Abrams.

That's quite a b8 you got there

actually yeah. I wouldn't say that MGS4 is worth buying a system for in itself but if you've played all the other Metal Gear Solid games then it will fill in a massive hole and be highly satisfying to play.

get Demon's Souls while you're at it, too, and if you didn't have a 360, get Red Dead Redemption.

some 10/10 games IMO

This is some expert level bait, you're pretty fucking good. 10/10

It's not pasta, right?

>As I played, I noticed that every game ends with the same Anti Nuclear message.

what the fug
anti nuke message in 2 and 4??

???

well baited

What's wrong with Revengeance's script?

Same question. It's up there with MGS1 as the best Metal Gear game.

I was in the same boat as you, OP, but I got super lucky and a friend let me borrow his PS3, and it just so happened that he had pretty good taste in video games and owned MGS Legacy Collection, Dragon's Dogma (before PC port), Demon's Souls and Catherine, literally the only four PS3 and not on PC or remastered on PS4 games I wanted to play.

I'd say a cheap used PS3 is recommended for Demon's Souls, Catherine, and MGS4 in that order. MGS4 is definitely a fun ride if you're into the series like I was even though it's probably not gonna be anywhere close to being your favorite. I've heard good things about Nier, that's another game to consider if you're going to get a PS3

>best Metal Gear game
>not MGS2

Metal Gear Solid 2 is a less wholesome experience than MGS1, but yeah all three games (MGS1, 2, and 3) are about equal with each other to varying degrees. So I'll revise my statement: MGR is definitely up there with MGS1, 2, and 3. And it is.

I can accept that

...

Yes.

It sounds like you're really into MGS, and in that case I definitely recommend playing 4. Especially if you can get it cheap.

It is a bad game though, with a few great moments, but as a conclusion to Snake's story it's pretty good. Even with the god awful epilogue.

Yes

>tfw you didn't hide/delete all your porn, just in case
I imagine it'd be awkward attending a funeral for a guy you know jerked it to anime girls (male) and the occasional furshit.

I remember having a conversation with someone once, went something like: You could build the best damn bridges in the world. Marvels of man, something everybody uses. You fuck a guy in the ass, then you're not a guy who built bridges. You're just a fag.

This.

MGS4 is actually hot garbage, but I bought a PS3 solely to continue the Metal Gear series much like OP. Never regretted it because there are so many other good games on PS3.

Wish I could say the same about PS4.

...

I deeply regret buying a PS4.
>remasters
>indie shit
>paid online
At this point, I'm already too invested.

never understood the twin snakes hate meme

depends, but since you got into Metal Gear recently, I would say yes, but be aware, it isn't the best game in the series
and since you got into the series recently, buy Metal Gear Rising Revengance too. Everyone is shitting on this, but trust me, it's awesome
