It's 120hz, with a "virtual" 120hz image overlayed (which gives an illusion of very smooth motion, even in video that's not nearly that high FPS) so they can technically get away with saying that their monitor is 240hz. True 240 **fps monitors are not a thing just yet.

Can somebody please explain to me? Why is PCMR so obsessed with the quality of the medium (games) rather than the medium itself? I never see PCMR discussing actual gameplay for PC games, I see a lot of circlejerking over muh graphics, muh 60fps, etc.

What is the purpose of building PC worth few thousand dollars, buying 144Hz (or 240Hz) "gaming" monitors if all they play is indie games that can run on a toaster, modded Skyrim, CSGO and DOTA?
And even then most of the times they do not actually play the games - they screenshot them, install HD texture packs, and generally do everything but enjoy the medium as it should be.

5 years ago I wouldn't have been able to push 60FPS @ 1080p on some games, and with my current hardware I can max those same games out at 4K resolution

Well the thing is, I play a lot of games in 30 / 60 and while I do agree there is a difference, I wouldn't say 30 is unplayable (as most PCMR people seem to claim) so I don't think 144 would do more for me tbqh. Same with resolution - a lot of people push for 1440p or 4k, but I'm fine here, enjoying 1080p, 900p or even 720p.

not for everyone tho, I can enjoy game in 30FPS as long as it's good and the lower framerate doesn't impact the gameplay. I generally prefer FPS and dynamic action games in 60 and everything else in 30.

If I'm going to choose I'm going to choose better colors and higher resolution. I've been playing games at 60 and below for over 30 years now. I don't care about going higher until the monitors colors start to get good with them plus I don't play shitty CSGO

Most console ports I can play on a gamepad and deal with a 30/60 refresh but once you go 144 for shooters and certain other games you won't want to go back.

I replayed through Alien Isolation the other day and the game is completely different at 144hz, it's way fucking creepier because it feels more "instant" and the aliens sneaking up on you feel like they're right there. Mind you, my cheapo 1060 3GB never dips under 144 with the game maxed since it's so old, the experience would probably be a lot worse if it couldn't keep up and dipped because my monitor doesn't have G-Sync

This is why a lot of people feel like VR is some sort of revolution, 90hz panels in front of your eyes are a lot better than a single 60hz panel as long as you can push all 90 frames, all the time.

It DOES affect the gameplay, a game with an input -> logic -> render loop that runs at only 30 FPS has ingrained input lag of 33.3ms. It's why you can safely call anyone that enjoys Nuclear Throne a retard. They think you can play a "fast paced" game with 30+ ms of input lag lmao
