Hey anons, I'm trying to upgrade my original PS4 to a 2TB hard drive but not sure if I sure get the Seagate Barracuda 2TB ST2000LM015 or the Seagate Firecuda 2TB ST2000LX001.
How was your experience with upgrading your HDD's? Also I should get a USB Back up drive since I don't want to lose PT right?

Sonyggers are this stupid.
Seems like a SSD would be a better upgrade.
b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-but
consholes are ch-ch-cheaper!
I just upgraded my PS4 to a 2TB HD and it was pretty easy. There are a bunch of guides online that will help you out. One thing I would reccommend is using an external HD to back up EVERYTHING so you don't spend a whole goddamn week redownloading everything like I did. Luckily I have unlimited internet, but it could be a problem for you.
came in here for this, glad Sup Forums has taught you well
what's so bad about Seagate or is it just some Sup Forums meme
The PS4 can't use external hard drives.
I got a Western Digital one because the guy at Best Buy recommended it, though I got a 1 TB version, and it worked just fine.
what's the problem with seagate? not OP here btw
Not OP but what's the meme here
seagates have an immense failure rate
best hdd brand is hgst, get one now before wd fucks them up
Seagates are not that bad. At least the 3.5 drives I have used of theirs.
I thought the ps4 could only use external storage for saves?
1tb ssd cost as much as the console itself
Why do you need 2tb? Bloodborne patches are that big?
Lurk more.
Seagate drives have a comically high failure rate. They are as shitty and unreliable as you can get. Literally nigger-tier hard drive.
Seagate is the best value for your buck and it is a fucking hard drive. If these guys tell you to buy a "Nike" hard drive then ignore it. An SSD is waaaaay too expensive. Save your money. If you are fine with your PS4s current loading times then just get a 5400rpm and save yourself some more money.
I'm gonna need a source on that
Xbox One can only use external USB storage. You cannot access the internal HDD without voiding warranty.
PS4 you can easily change the internal HDD, but you can't use USB storage.
Damn, I was about to buy one, thanks anons.
But what the fuck am I supposed to get now, these seagates are literally on every "Top Hard Drives for PS4" lists nigga.
t. geek squad employee
find it yourself, we've no reason to meme you on this when hgst is universally recognized as the best hdd manufacturer
>best value for your buck
Not if you have to fucking replace them constantly.
all my sources say western digital is by far the highest failure rate on the market, with seagate a distant second
If its anything like the ps3 hdd upgrade it shouldn't be that bad. I would hope you can backup your system to an external drive before swapping in a new hdd. I would get one of those converters to let you use the old drive as an external too
They have released an update where if you are backing up your PS4 you can back up applications as well. Games and such. It really sucked to download everything again as I did not have an external with enough storage.
>on every Top Hard Drives for PS4 list
That's because Sonyggers are stupid.
Maybe 10 years ago. Get out of your basement and update your knowledge.
Parroting strong opinions base on expired info is depressingly common in the IT world.
How to do get a 4TB hard drive into my PS4 Slim?
Buy HGST instead. I replaced my PS4 HDD with one. If you want to transfer PT to your new HDD, you need to have some USB drive big enough to store everything. There's probably some guide out there on the backup/restore feature for the PS4.
Also, you should be able to uninstall any game you can just reinstall to lower transfer time. I think saves are not tied to the game install. (that or just back them up to the cloud if you have PS Plus)
Haha. I used to work at FutureShop, but I was head of the videogame department. Geeksquad did not exist while I was there. I have used Seagate drives for a long time and never had an issue.
They overheat with even mild use. The more use they receive the more likely they are to fail. Trying to install a new game from disc would be far too much wear and tear on the HDD.
...
>those WD failure rates
what the fuck happened?
That's exactly what I said though
Also I never fucking post here. Just thought I would help OP out. I finally understand the (you) meme.
>not getting a 2tb SSD instead
Keep in mind that WD only make up for 3.4% of all hard drives Backblaze use so their data for WD is not as accurate as for HGST and Seagate
So what's the best 2TB Hard Drive for PS4? There's a HGST Travel Star one that's compatible with the original PS4 but it's only 1TB
>wasting an SSD on SATA II
there are no 2TB 7200rpm 2.5" drives
hgst has 2tb travelstars but they're 5400rpm drives afaik
>Seagate has 2 year warranty
>Toshiba has 2 year warranty
>WD has 2-3 year warranty
>HGST (now WD) has 3 year warranty
wow it's like they know how long they're going to last or something
When it comes to 2.5 inch drives 2TB are abysmally reliable. Just get a 1TB one. There may be some adapter to let you use a 3.5 inch drive on the PS4, but I don't know.
For HGST drives, this is the only one I could find.
amazon.com
Lower speed/high density vs higher speed/low density
>no one recommending the deskstar
you're all stupid and should feel bad
Thanks user, I thought HDD's that are 3TB and over are bad since they supposedly have a higher failure rate than 2TB and under Hard Drives. Might get the one you listed since Seagate is awful I guess
It looks like Deskstar Drives are only 3.5 which isn't supported by the PS4 unless you have a tumor of an adapter like the Nyko Power Bank
says the dumbfuck that doesn't know the ps4 only takes 2.5" drives
retard
>Bought a 2TB portable drive years ago for like $75
>Popped out the drive and put in my PS4
>Been working fine ever since
not exactly doing intense video editing or number crunching on it so it should last a while
youtube.com
Reminder.
that was a joke, user. the point is there are no HGST drives that are 2TB since they know its nearly impossible to make a reliable one that big.
If you really need to, buy a seagate, but don't say you weren't warned. Who knows? it may be just fine.
>doesnt know about the deskstar
I'm dealing with tech illiterate retards hahahaahahaha!
>seagate
>wd
>toshiba

Keep bullshitting, kiddo. I've got a Seagate and it's been working like a charm.
Stay wrong.

I might just get a 1TB hard drive I guess. Since all you anons are saying don't even think about getting a 2TB drive for PS4...
Oh well.
what went wrong
in the end, its your call. though if you buy disc based games, I don't see the point of a 2TB drive since you can always just reinstall the games from the disc quickly
youtube.com
Get a 3.5" drive. Faster and more reliable and cheaper.
>caring this much about a hard drive for a console
it's not like you're storing priceless memories on it or something, and everything is backed up to the cloud
>my lack of any proof will show this person is wrong
Keep telling yourself that.
If you want to keep PT, you have to do an HDD swap.
fucking amazing, sony never stops innovating
last gen we got a blu-ray player that doubled as a grill and now we get a big mac that can take off like a jet
take that, microturds
Since I'm a bit deperate to get a 2TB hard drive, I might resort to this I guess. The Nyko Power Bank is for Desktop Hard Drives on PS4 right? I just might resort to this since Desktop Hard Drives seem to be better than Laptop ones.
t. guy who can't read graphs
>t meme
And opinion discarded. Keep up the shitting, bucko.
you're free to keep using your seagate until it dies on you if you can't be assed to go over to backblaze and read some articles
You're free to keep saying shit like it's inevitable when it isn't.
go back to Sup Forums
I have a 3tb Corsair HDD. Should I be worried?
It has moving parts, so yeah, it's going to eventually.
didnt know corsair manufactured hard disks
what model user, I'm not any of these Sup Forums anons, I'm still trying to decide what to get
Keep telling yourself that.
so it's better to invest on a 1tb ssd that will last forever, as it doesnt have moving parts
The NAND will eventually get worn out, but it's over a predictable amount of writes and there is wear-leveling.
>so it's better to invest on a 1tb ssd that will last forever, as it doesnt have moving parts
Flash memory is volatile, because it's based on floating charges. It loses its contents over time.
JEDEC specifies a minimum data retention time of ONE YEAR for client SSDs. Rewriting makes it only worse (shortens the longer initial retention time further).
Magnetic storage decays too, but more like in decades.
Just plug it in every now and then.
Also this entire thread is just full of stupid idiots throwing memes around. Only one other person in this thread is smart enough to talk about better loading speeds of hybrid drives. Sure it's not faster than SSD, however it also doesn't break your bank either.
My friend bought an 8tb Seagate, how reliable are they?
So what's the best HDD to get on PS4 with the Highest Capacity? Since all the lists online say Seagate and shit.
>seagate
holy fuck isn't this the recommended shit?
>The Nyko Power Bank is for Desktop Hard Drives on PS4 right?
Yes, but this one won't work with the slims. Not sure if they have one for the slim now.
So would you say the Seagate Firecuda 2TB ST2000LX001 for an Original PS4?
>Just plug it in every now and then.
Changes nothing, client SSDs don't refresh data preemptively to save precious flash cycles.
newegg.com
Meh, it's for a PS4, not a data center.
Just go for it. The failure rates aren't guarantees, and long as you back up stuff on the cloud saves things should be fine. It's mainly people with PT who have to be cautious, and again, it's not like the things are 100% set to die on you.
>So what's the best HDD to get on PS4 with the Highest Capacity?
Get a SSD. The differences are so minor among ssd that they're all good and will most likely last you a lifetime.
If you really have the money and want the absolute best of the best for the ps4 pro, the 1tb Samsung 850 EVO is the best right now.
If you want to wait for a sale, the best bang for your buck ssd was the Crucial MX300 750gb which was selling for $100 each during black friday.
>2 Seagate hard drives for 4 years
>never had any issue
Yes I would say the Firecuda is the better choice. Faster loading speed. Not as good as a SSD, but it beats any 5400rpm and 7200rpm drive.
That's AFTER it passes its endurance rating, tho.
>However, the devil is in the JEDEC slideshow details. The scenario described is an absolute, worst case scenario where if you write to the SSD at low temperatures, then store it at high temperatures (which is completely backwards from the usual scenario) and if the SSD is very close to its end of life (which is harder than you think) then leave it unpowered
>Handy said that for client SSDs the write load is so small that wear doesn’t measurably impact retention. "I believe that the standard guarantee is five continuous years without power, and I would be good with that," he said.
supposedly the original PS4 doesn't support all the benefits of a SATA III drive so would that be any set backs for me? supposedly it can cause data corruption or some shit.
That's because the high failure rate is just a fucking meme.
Backblaze is not a legit source for shit but everyone spreads that shit around like cancer since they made a fucking graph.
Samsung 840 series has so bad NAND, that it loses data after months already. Though during the first weeks that only affects read speeds, because error correction makes up for it.
Buying a bulk storage SSD an expecting it to "last forever" is stupid. The SSD itself might, but the data doesn't.
I didn't say it would last forever. That was some other retard trying to conflate not A therefore B.
>so it's better to invest on a 1tb ssd that will last forever, as it doesnt have moving parts
