What was your favorite videogame magazine back when they mattered?

Play, but it died because the editor in chief, Dave Halverson neglected to fucking the bills and didn't even pay his editors for the last few months of work.

And then he proceeded to make another magazine, this time without them.

EGM for Hsu and Chan, Nintendo Power for all the neat shit they'd put in the magazine like that card you could fold 5 different ways and each time it would have a different image.

Nintendo Power.

GMR

Official playstation magazine for the demo disks, the ps2 disks even sometimes had save files with special shit on them

I don't know. I got 5 or 6 a month. I loved them all.

>this is my fursona
>basically i'm an intj
>so if you put me on the spot, i'll sweat really hard and give you my asshole as consolation

I used to buy Nintendo magazine back in 2004

I remember seeing this issue and the Gamecube blowing my nine year old mind

>That Pikmin game looks CRAZY

This, still have a nice little stack of them tucked away.
>Demo disks aren't a thing anymore

GamesMaster.

PC Gamer was my favorite. I even won Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne in one of their contests. That was a nice day.

...

This.

PC Zone was pure banter in the late 90s/early 2000s, never got as popular as PC Gamer though

And what was that magazine that had Sean Baby reviewing shitty games for a bit? Was that game informer?

Fuck yeah.

I bought the last issue a few years ago... off of e-bay. Miny condish.

Mr Cursor was great, I remember when they brought him back for some weird serial plot about trying to claim benefits on Pitcairn Island and then Tristan de Cunha. It ended up with a GTA clone designed to kill online cheaters called GTA: Freetown.

Also let's not forget Charlie Brooker's ill-advised boast that if Carmageddon 2 wasn't GOTY he'd eat his own arse, the year that Half-Life came out.

EGM. My personal go to source.

If anybody remembers a magazine called Tips&Tricks. My dad bought me an issue of it in 1996, featuring Killer Instinct on the cover (the N64) version.

Was literally a monthly magazine featuring nothing but cheat codes, exploits, and tutorials on how to win games. I was awestruck because it had tips and tricks for every system up until that point.

It was basically my bible for games at that point. It was 1996, the N64 was new, the NES, Genesis, and SNES were still in full use in my household for years. I used this magazine for everything.

That and the blockbuster video cheat book, if anybody remembers that.

>Tips and Tricks

You posted this as I was typing, otherwise I would have included a (you) in my post

That was it, now I need to go buy a magazine lot off of EBay.

>Charlie Brooker

Mad to think how much of a celebrity he is now, barely anyone remembers he got his start in a vidya mag

>those pixel art puzzles in the back
best magazine

...

>Dave Halverson

This name seems to ring a bell. Isn't this the same person who used to run the Die Hard Gamer's Club, a seller of imported video games and I think also a publisher of a video game magazine?

Die Hard also went bust and there were allegations of people not getting paid by the head, whom I believe was Halverson.

If this is correct, Halverson is a habitual conman.

>Hsu and Chan
>Gila Mobster
>Chernobyl
That comic, that while mag was based as fuck.
You all remember when it's then editor in chief Shoe had like 5 minutes of airtime once a week on Headline News?
