I'm planning on getting a ps4 however, I don't know if I should get a pro or slim.
I don't care about graphics that much but I'm concerned with some claims that the ps4 pro can run some games smoothly.
Considering that I don't have a 4k TV, should I get the pro or the slim version? Are the claims about the ps4 pro specs and such really matters or not? Will the slim coexist well with the pro in the future?
Camden Harris
it's always good to future proof yourself for something that costs a lot, so go with pro, (if you're a first time buyer) you can still use it with a hdmi tv and some games will take advantage of the pro even without a 4k tv but that's up to the dev to implement whatever they want to take advantage of the pro, I have it and I'm perfectly happy with it so far but buyer beware, I've read a lot of stories where it comes defective, or makes loud noises and that some games run worse on pro, but that they get patched out later on. I haven't encountered any of these problems yet so I'm lucky, but it's still good to warn you before you drop cash on this. if you're not going to be getting a 4k tv in the next 4 years or you're worried about the stories, then get a slim or vanilla ps4 if they are still around, or invest it on a pc. if you do get a pro get a longer warranty wherever you buy it just to be safe, I did.
research a lot before you drop the cash.

not a single good game utilizes the pro's extra power. it's all garbage
Easton Martin
>Considering that I don't have a 4k TV, should I get the pro or the slim version? Just get the PS4 (the official name of the "Slim" is just "PS4") and never think again about it. That's the advantage of consoles. PS4 will be supported long after the PS5 is already released.
Thomas Wright
also not a lot of games have taken advantage of the pro features outside of 4k resolution, which isn't even true 4k, since it's still new and not enough time has passed yet, features like better graphics, better framerate, though the new tomb raider is by far the shinning example of what devs can do with it, there's a video of it you should check it out. I'm sure there are lists out there that show which games take advantage of the pro and what they do.
Evan Thompson
Get the standard PS4. The Pro is a genuine meme-machine with its fake 4K and lack of higher framerate support in most titles.
Robert Anderson
If you literally don't give a shit about better graphics, higher resolution, better performance or quicker load times, if you genuinely don't care about that then don't get a PS4pro. There's no point to it.
Here's all that matters for you: PS4pro will NEVER get an exclusive that other PS4 models can't also play. Sony is still doing generations, it won't be a "PS4 Pro 2 version 4" thing, in 3 to 5 years you'll get a PS5, it's that simple. So yes, get whichever you want.

>care about performance >getting a console
Carson Cook
>caring about games >only owning a PC
wow that's... really. Really. Really sad.
Juan Foster
slim >original ps4 hardware >slightly smaller design >allegedly more quiet than ps4 fat
pro >an additional $200+ or a 5 fps improvement >sounds like a jet engine >multiple problems plaguing a lot of people's consoles
the choice seems obvious.
Brody Watson
>>allegedly more quiet than ps4 fat Much more quiet. The main reason I upgraded to the slim from my fat. That and the occasional spitting of the discs.
Eli Cruz
just get a slim. Pro right now is dogshit and not worth
Nathaniel Perez
>future proof Both will become obsolete when PS5 gets announced, don't fool yourself.
Connor Reed
Well it depends OP - how wide is your asshole? You sure you need the slim version? You probably should get the Pro so you feel more cucked out of your money. But then I dunno maybe you should consider the older version it runs hotter so you get a nice residual heater for your asshole.
Aaron Gray
I'm in the same boat right now OP. There are enough games out and coming that I want to play to warrant a purchase. I mostly play weebshit and finally getting to play Bloodborne is going to be great.
How is remote play on the PS4? It's something I've never used before and it looks neat.
Jacob Adams
>playing shooters on console >playing strategy games on console >playing any multiplat save for bullshit like dishonored 2 etc on a console the optimal setup is pc, ps4, 3ds this cannot be refuted
James Hill
>No Vita
It's the best handheld if you're into weebshit.
Adam Nelson
No shit. And that'll be obsolete with the PS6.
Colton Gomez
>the optimal setup is pc, ps4, 3ds Or dead, PS4, dead. My optimal setup is PS4, PS3, PS2.
Easton Scott
>How is remote play on the PS4? If that is a feature you may want to use it is 2000x better on the Pro due to it having something on a hardware level that allows it to have a have better internet connection speeds than the other models
Andrew Torres
I don't mind anime, haven't watched any in a while though but alas weebshit is worthless to me because 2d girls are creepy and deformed
>being this much of a fanboy of any company I seriously hope you don't do this ps4 did completely beat the bone out for this gen, though
Tyler Barnes
>being this much of a fanboy of any company Those consoles are simply really good and have a truckload of cheap physical games available for them, with a wide variety to chose from.
Nolan Martin
I agree with ps4 and ps2, I didn't own a 7th gen console so I wouldn't know about the ps3 vs 360 The main thing I was contesting was saying the 3ds and pc were dead/useless I need that monhun fix and I can't play shooters on a controller, plus better performance and all that vs console
Christian Barnes
>sounds like a jet engine memes
Leo Hernandez
PC is dead for physical games since a decade and 3DS is officially dead now, because the successor is how in a few weeks.
Leo Carter
Pro: sounds like a jet plane Slim: quiet and comfy
Robert Morgan
oh that's what you meant yeah I can agree with that
Matthew Evans
Based on MSRP, the PS4 Pro is $100 more than the regular PS4 although it seems the PS4 comes with a game (Uncharted 4 from what I'm look at Best Buy's web site.) The PS4 is also got a discount at Best buy so you're looking at a difference of $150 + a game.
If $150 is a lot of money to you, then you're probably better off buying the regular PS4. It seems Sony jumps a generation every 6 or 7 years and the PS4 has already been available for three years. That gives you roughly 3 or 4 years of new games before a new PlayStation *could* come out and developers start shifting resources toward developing games for the new console.
If you've already out of college and make a reasonably good wage (say $50,000/year or more), it couldn't hurt to buy the PS4 Pro. You never know if the games coming out over the next three years will be noticeably smoother and more pleasant on the PS4 Pro and $150 is about what you take home for one day's work.
