The whole reason the console business model works is because the console manufacturer is expected to collect licensing fees from 3rd party developers who make games for their platform.

This hasn't worked for Nintendo for over a decade now, as 3rd party games just don't sell on Nintendo hardware. People who buy Nintendo hardware buy them to play Nintendo games. There are extremely few exceptions to this rule.

This relegates Nintendo's hardware to a platform to publishing exclusively their own software, and by not publishing their software on other platforms, they are missing out on a huge demographic of gamers who would buy their games if only they didn't have to buy redundant hardware to go along with it.

Nintendo would return to Wii/DS era of revenue if they went 3rd party, and it would be the best thing for not only them as a company, but their fans and gamers everywhere. The only reason they don't is because they're stubborn old Japs who are afraid of change

The vast majority of people who play video games don't want to buy a billion and one different systems just so they can play 53 games instead of 50 had they bought only one. This is the reason why the PS4 is so appealing. It's cheap, easy to use, provides better performance than all the other consoles and the only thing it's missing out on is has-been shit like Halo which nobody cares about anymore. If the Switch gets all the multiplats the ps4 and xbox get I'll be selling my ps4 for a Switch. But if not, then I'll wait until the Switch bombs, gets a price cut, then I'll buy a used one. Rayman Legends was one of the best WiiU games and played best on the U.

I would be surprised if Rockstar supports it outside a side game or a old port. Its clear their business model is going more towards getting money from online play and updating that portion of it, plus I get the feeling whatever GTA comes out next will run on a modified version of whatever RDR2 is running on and that looks to be way out of the Switch's abilities.

Bethesda will probably port some stuff to it to try it out and then dump it in a year or two if sales are bad. I'd be curious if Nintendo would be more open to mods then Sony is, or if they even allow it.
