Anyone else prefer playing games with Graphics like this (pic related)? There is just something comfy about it
Graphics
More like SM64 is just comfy
I have never played it
And im OP
I like games with the OG xbox aesthetic
They´re simple, clear and stylized. Everything´s also cohesive, with big shapes and colorful details. It´s easy to look at.
I miss the times when vidya visuals were barebones polygons + textures. I´d say the golden era was in the mid 00s with games like HL2, UT2k4, Doom3 and so on, which introduced and standardized Normalmapping and dynamic lighting/shadows.
Yes
Everything is brought to life and iconic, most game developers nowadays seem to think this is either use a brown palette or use a bright color palette forgetting about design.
Early 3D games all tend to look very unique and have unique game design overall. They are way more interesting looking than games today.
>those games
10/10, would play for the rest of my life.
And I agree. Couple generations ago, just about all games looked and played quite different from each other. Even if some of them belonged to seemingly same genre.
Nowadays, it´s all standardized design choices + stock library effects everyone slaps on their mediocre visuals.
Isn't that why some people play Nintendo games, because they're so different?
SM64 had some of the worst graphic design of the generation though. it's like something you'd expect to see in a romhack.
And yet people love it. It's not always about powerlevel, fampai.
Don't get me wrong, not saying it's a bad game by any means, but we're talking about graphics.
>comfy
There's that meme word again
Fuck off and kill yourself you numale cuck
Also, graphics > gameplay
Now go jump off a cliff
>graphics > gameplay
>calling others numales
>Isn't that why some people play Nintendo games, because they're so different?
...I guess. Though I don´t exactly know how many people would use that as the ONLY excuse to play their games. Different =/= good.
No idea to what you are basing that statement, but you are quite wrong. The visuals blew our minds back in 97, and it is still fairly easy to look at thanks to its colorful and cartoony looks. The smooth framerate and joy of the controls only help the game.
I prefer the DS' low-poly models with low resolution pixelated textures, but you aren't wrong OP.
>SM64 had some of the worst graphic design of the generation though.
As someone who was around when it was released, you are full of shit. It set the standard for graphics for the generation. Everything that came after was trying to outdo it.
>he prefers a clunky game engine, shit mechanics and storyline but as long as he gets
>m-muh graphics he is content
No John, you are the numale
Do you not know how ">" works?
>phoneposter
Oh never mind, you're just retarded.
>Nostalgia fags
yes desu. Gameplay is king, and I will always prefer an artstyle that is function first, communicating everything about the game that needs to be known to the player, and manages to be aesthetic af as well.
Nintendo has this down to a fucking artform. Bungie is the closest any western developer has gotten to that same level of polish with the Halo series; Halo is arguably more fun than Nintendo games. Blizzard is probably the next company to get this right, but nu-Blizzard has gone turbo jew, so they're shit rn.
>m-muh memes
Kill yourself
End it
No one will miss you
No, as a matter of fact I haven't played it for over 15 years because I'm waiting for a real remake with Sunshine graphics.
There was nothing mindblowing about its graphics. it was a big mess of textures that barely fit together to make a cohesive image. SM64 is great, but the graphics have nothing to do with it.
They're ugly as sin. The only reason you think they're "comfy" is because you grew up in that specific era.
>I praise an entire generation of games except one
>You praise one game
>Y-you're the nostalgia fag! I-it's more likely than the whole rest of games in that era looked good! N-no nostalgia here!
>it was a big mess of textures that barely fit together to make a cohesive image
You'd have to be genuinely retarded, legally blind or both of those to make a statement like that.
On a technical level it was mind blowing. It had AA, texture filtering and non-affine texture maps when its competition couldn't do any of those (even PCs). Your opinion on its actual texture quality is uncommon, most people think they look great.
>There was nothing mindblowing about its graphics
On the contrary.
Shit was so goddamn NEXT GEN to me and my buds, you can´t imagine:
>No "triangle faces & hands" 3D models
>No wobbly and pixelated textures
>No "rough edges" (jaggies)
>That framerate & movement
No Gen-Z child will ever know the magic of Xmas 1997.
And yes, the game HAS a cohesive style and image. Everything is big, fairly smooth-looking and clear. It´s easy to look at, allowed relatively big and open worlds, that alone provided awe.
>>There was nothing mindblowing about its graphics
>he doesn't know about the Toy Story review
Nigga play it asap
The level design in that game is garbage.
SM64 has style. That really can't be argued. What other games have a style all their own?
>It's le comfy :)
Fuck off, there are plenty of words but you resort to Sup Forums's meme equivalent of the word "soulless"
I don't know why people are trolling you about SM64, that's one of the best games ever made. And yeah, I prefer old graphics.
This.
This shit needs to seriously die.
>le nu prefix
>chicken sound effect
_donald you reddit fag
It might sound weird, but I actually like the look and design of units from the earlier Total War games like Rome or Medieval 2. The units in Rome 2 just seemed so boring by comparison, even though the graphics were technically better.
phoneposting normalfags everyone
I actually like Virtua Fighter graphics.
No not necessarily, I didn't grow up in the nes era and I still like a lot of its games.
Yor favorite games are probably garbage.
I've been here longer than you. Get off of my website or I'll dox you newfag bitch
Hearing people complain about the word "comfy" is maximum comfy
It's finally happened... kids are being nostalgic over early 3D. Soon the board will have nostalgic PS3 threads.
Early 3D was vomit tier looking. There's nothing nostalgic or pleasing looking at eye cancer.
I played Max Payne for the first time yesterday and thought how much I prefer old graphics.
A lot of modern games are vomit inducing eye irritants imao.
ps2/xbox/gamecube was the best era for videogames
machines were powerful enough to make cool gameplay concepts, and graphics that could be expressive and clear, but not so powerful that devs had to dump most of their time and energy into actually creating those graphics to keep up with the hardware and not as much time on making the actual game
you have autism
kys
YYYYYEEEEEAAAAHHHH
AOOOOOOOOO
Kill yourself, underage faggot. 5th gen graphics were the best.
> bathroom tiles
No.
>people getting nostalgic for low polygon garbage looking games like FF7
This is it guys. We have finally arrived at the year when people get nostalgic over this shit instead of NES or SNES. It's going to be nothing but Halo and Call of Duty from now on.
who /Saturn/ here?
IIII WIIIN
Saturn was pretty unique, but I'm more of an untextured guy.
I absolutely hate early 3D.
I'll never play Half Life 1&2, Deus Ex, etc...
The PS2 is a no-go zone for me.
Were you able to finish Mail?
find a flaw
this desu
And I thought, I am the only one
also
do it, do it now
Heck yeah
I'll finish her later. She's almost finished, just needs a face.
But I've been busy and my life is hard. Well, I'm a poor brazilian (yeah, I'm from hell on earth) who lost everything to a flood early this year, and although I'm a pretty talented and intelligent guy, I can't find a job, as monkeys will only hire monkeys.
kys cucks
>find a flaw
It didn't get a sequel with more Sega characters like Ryo Hazuki, Segata Sanshiro, Gilius Thunderhead, Altered Beast Centurion and Space Harrier.
