we had a couple threads when it was released in the beta branch.

it was mostly "lol the enemy bases suck" and nothing else, because that's what modern Sup Forums is, an endless stream of complaining about literally anything that could possibly warrant complaint

You can only kill them without remorse if they have a guilty trait so just double check before harvest their organs.

Why does this game looks so much like Prison Architect, it's like both of them were made from the same assets or maybe by the same artist.

both use a square tiles system and hand drawn mspaint-tier sprites. That's it. No relation otherwise.

I agree, I should have designed it differently. They are running on separate grids though so not all the power blows up in case of short circuit. The generators and solars are obsolete too, the whole facility runs on nuclear.

And the power thingies are new generators added by the industrialization mod, they also run on uranium IIRC

Fantastic idea, surely these colonists who can barely hit a target with a shotgun on close-quarters will totally not get mowed down by a team of professional pirates who outnumbers them by 3:1 while being equipped by far superior weaponry. Never mind the fact that they also set their mortars on open group which basically means a Stalingrad-like suicide charge if I want to half the setup of their artillery.

Brilliant strategy.

This base is entirely indefensible on a reasonable difficulty.

Build wooden traps. Send someone to lure them into a killzone. Build some turrets. Endure the shelling, rebuild, and prepare for next time. Stop playing on the random difficulty since there's no reason for you to be armed with peashooters at the point where mortars arrive. Rimworld is not a complicated game, you're just terrible.

RimWorld is not about strategy, it's about tactics.

Like I said, that's my main strategy, hold a position against cover where I have fire superiority and funnel them into a killzone.
Never makes a difference as they are always unable to hit reliably and the enemies just come in zerg rushing regardless.

That's a given, but considering all of this happens by the time I have only three colonists and just a bunch of poor/terrible quality guns, a melee enemy that hacks away one their hands in a strike of luck is basically me fucked over forever, especially considering that prisoners not only join wounded as a result of the fight, but also take forever to join, almost two attacks worth of time.

These Vulcan turrets mow down absolutely anything dumb enough to get close. the only real challenge where mortars and assault drop pods.

The colony met its end when mechanoids landed near the trading console in the middle.

Well you see, in addition to Dorf Fort's fortress mode, it also has an adventure mode where you can create an individual character and freely wander the entire world, where you can complete quests slay dragons, go drinking, make friends, swear fealty to a king, ect ect.

If you mean travelling around on a planet then that is actually in the game as of todays update.

Well yeah but you can't really do much besides attack bases right? And the NPCs only focused on your people last I checked, they wouldn't fight (or trade, or scheme) amongst themselves. But if that's changing then color me interested.

There is better rogue-like than Dwarf Fortress Adventure Mode, even if being to explore your failed fortresses is a nice gimmick.

grinned reading it earlier today. I cannot imagine how fun it will be discovering the random spearman you recruited is actually some sort of spy and you're actively helping an entire civilization learn far more than they should about what's going on in the world

I love this game but it's too hard and cruel with the RNG to play without the exploits. I've never gotten a colony of more than six over dozens of games played.

Just because its easier doesn't mean they're lazy, that game is fantastic and they've put a lot of work into it.

Dude you've got like 3 different types of AI directors and several difficulty levels, and it can all be changed at any time during the game.

Mix and match for comfort, then raise the stakes when things get too easy.

The combat is absolutely broken, you either switch to easy modo or use mods to make it playable.
