Are there any other games like System Shock 2 around?

> in b4 System Shock 1 or Bioshock

The horror elements are essential, so no.

Dead Space is extremely like it

You made me think of a trailer I saw on here a short while ago, can't remember the name though

It was about a space station and there were aliens that could morph into random objects and such.. Anyone remember the name?

A released game, or upcoming?

SOMA has the atmosphere and the writing.

Gameplay...not so much, unless you like bad stealth.

> Frictional Games

Aw shiet, I loved Amnesia as far as I could take it. It got too creepy and I couldn't finish it, though. I got to the prison section. The servant grunts in that game, I can't even look at them in the game.

Upcoming, it was PREY

Wasn't in my youtube history for some reason

Whoops

Resident evil 4. Only in the sense that it has puzzles, horror, and same inventory concept.

A blend between horror, fps & rpg ? I don't think so.

Still have it intalled on my pc. Such a creepy game.

The story is probably the only thing I find a bit subpar. The twists were expectable.

The more of them, the better. I could live without the first person part, but it's preferable.

Well there's Stalker but it's not constantly horror like System Shock 2.

That and the fact that it's pretty well known.

I general there are very few horror games that I find frightening so it's a hard subject.

Maybe Routine if it ever comes out ?

the first Thief

Not a bad suggestion, the Hammerites mines were eerie.

Played it, loved it. Thief 2 was good too, but lost the eerie atmosphere because it now had robots instead.

Syndrome

Is it any good ? Never tried it because it seemed uncomplete.

Alien Isolation

System shock 1 gets rather spooky towards the end and its a better game overall.

Not a bad game, but not quite the same as SS2. You can't kill the Alien by shooting him, while you can kill pretty much everything that comes at you in SS2.

Found another thing that I'm partial about : the catchy music. Some of it was so out of place, like the one in the first area after the intro.

Deus Ex lacks the terror but it's similar when it comes to building your character, inventory and such.

Release is next year

Thought of that, but the lack of horror makes a no go. Great game though.

That's good, thanks for letting me know.

Soon™

how long was this thing in development again?

5 years?

Gotta wait for that SS1 remake I suppose, looks good so far.

Thief 1 - 3

Spirits of Xanadu is an indie game that's heavily inspired by/rips off System Shock 2
Be warned the graphics are pretty terrible and it's a bit short but other than that I can recommend it

That game bored me to death. I got to the point after you meet the robot that thinks hes a human.
The intro with the brain meds deal had me glued to the screen but after you meet the doctor the game goes into a saturday morning cartoon mode that i just couldn't take seriously.

I felt like the game wanted me to be spooked but there was nothing spooky unlike amnesia.

Damn, got loads of nice suggestions. I've added many of these to my list of must-plays now.

BioShock was just as scary as SS2.

by which I mean, not very

Although differing in some core game play elements there's this.

...

SOMA was one of my favorite experiences this year. You should give it another try, it gets better and the story REALLY picks up.

metroid prime?
