Is VR dying?
VR

it was never alive to begin with
I think 'stillborn' is the better phrase
It isn't even born yet.
They are releasing they super expensive prototypes as "early access for enthusiasts". This shit flies with games, but hardware is another thing entirely.
The tech isn't ready.
I hope
>The tech isn't ready.
This
PSVR just further proves its not ready for a mainstream market. Its high end enthusiast equipment on PC for a reason.
Vive gen 2 already in development
VR will never catch on for consoles because it greatly exaggerates the performance gap between PC and console.
Well if sony produced more than 20 units to sell worldwide, maybe it would have taken off. Shit was released in October and you still can't walk into a store and buy it.
Seeing as my desire to buy it has completely evaporated I'm not planning to get one when they do get in stock
>first wave of new tech
>implying it looks dead
Seems to be going pretty well. I wouldn't buy one yet but I want to see where it'll be in 5 years.
>tfw OP is likely too young to have seen new tech development cycles
>VR will never catch on for consoles because it greatly exaggerates the performance gap between PC and console.
Just look what happens when they actually need to target over 30FPS to not make people projectile vomit.
>fancy new monitor
>every single 'journalist' covering VR from kickstarter to launch failed to mention that WASD movement makes you ill
It never had a chance, user, better bronze the baby shoes so you have a memento.
Basically that.
Until they can make VR more seemless and lightweight it will be little more than a toy that stays corded to the living room wall.
4~16K + 100+ fps is nuts yo.
It probably will have it's niche (talking purely about games here) in simulators (be it racing, flight or milsim) with some other stuff here and there.
The main problem is that they're still figuring out how to make your VR character move (and also trying to find a way of not making you throw up everything up to that pizza you ate 3 nights before). After that they would need to make actual games to it, and reduce the price.
>every single 'journalist' covering VR from kickstarter to launch failed to mention that WASD movement makes you ill
Everyone talked about that. It's the main reason almost all VR games have teleporting.
I know that now and I didn't devour every single bit of media on these things before launches but I only ever learned about this shit like a month after launch. None of the articles pre-launch that I read mentioned it.
Until they factor sensorimotor functions in, VR is a pointless gimmick.
Looking at it, the sacrifices they need to make seem to defeat the purpose of having VR if all the things that make games more immersive are removed.
Along with the WASD movement games causing motion sickness its no wonder current VR is a flop. They have to compronise on all the things that would make VR appealing to get it to work.
I think the price of the PlayStation VR turns people off from it. I don't know what the Rift/Vive are for price points, but for me the PS VR is waaaaay overpriced for what little quality it offers. I can only speak for the PS having used it.
Both HTC and Sony have said they exceeded their relatively modest sales targets so I'm sure theyre happy with how VR is going.
The only thing dying is Facebookulus
Nothing but grid-based first person dungeon crawlers and porn games seems good to me though.
It's funny so many outspoken people are against it on the most cynical circlejerk on the internet.
But normies think VR is the coolest shit ever.
Good luck trying to pretend VR will never take off because you will it.
It's even better when the average retard figures out VR isn't just for videogames, like Sup Forums seems to perpetuate.
It's just children that don't know how technology evolves since they grew up with smartphones.
>VR will never catch on for consoles because it greatly exaggerates the performance gap between PC and console.
More like they went at it too fucking early and realized they can't do jack shit with updating the models. Vive isn't even perfect which is why vive 2 is on it's way.
But yea the pro is a weak piece of shit.
It probably will, if nothing else because a rather vocal group of self-named "hardcore" gamers keep pushing for resolutions way above what they screens can actually display.
