so whats the consensus on this thing? i have heard people say its on par with the ps2 when it comes to games and i have heard others say its a piece of shit.
So whats the consensus on this thing...
it had only 3 good games. wii sports and the mario galaxies.
Consensus is that once the novely wore off 20 minutes into playing wii bowling, all of its faults came into focus, the foremost of these being poor/gimmicky controls, lack of third party support, and only a few strong exclusives.
Sold like hotcakes though
there's enough games (quality and decent) to drop $20 on one and softmod it
It's a shovelware box everyone threw away after 2009.
its a mario galaxy machine
It as some comfy games, plus
>Nintendont
>mGBA
>RetroArch
>Genesis Plus GX
ALL IN 240P!!11!
It's good for playing GameCube games and Xenoblade.
Pretty decent list of good games for it, on top of being backwards compatible with the Gamecube and easily modded for access to all sorts of shit for free. That said, all of it is pretty easily playable on a PC for free, but for the price you can pick up a Wii, it isn't bad at all.
Reminds me that I should play S&P2 again sometime.
It has some great games but its control scheme is actually completely unnecessary and adds little/nothing to the games. Trying to play Wii titles now just makes you feel like an idiot and wish that you could just play them with a Gamecube controller.
it's an upgraded GC that's almost as easy to mod as a PSP.
there are a few worthwhile exclusives but the wagglan ruins it. better to emulate.
As you can see from the replies, it's love it or hate it.
/vr/ here by the way, I bought a component cable for it and play retro games on my CRT, I love the results, but I also enjoy it's library like the Galaxies, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Sin Punishment 2, and Darkside Chronicles, among others.
and project m. literally every other game is trash.
also quake
mgba on wii is a frame dropping pile of absolute garbage, get a game boy player with GBI and a flash cart.
Nintendont is amazing though.
Is actually pretty good.
Still gets oohs and aahs and the novelty reaction from people even years later.
It's uniqueness, cheapness for everyone involved, and openness singlehandedly created the 7th gen.
It actually kept many major stuidos who were throwing money at AAA titles in the black by being a place where they could dump cheaply made quality shovelware/budget fare and make money easily.
Even today people are still picking them up to softmod and use as super nostalgia boxes and cheap streaming devices.
To be honest, the thing fell out of favor because nintendo cheaped out in pushing it in media and keeping it relevant, the bad online experience, and scaring away the devs who could have made their digital space worth using. I'm not even going to get into how them being cheap cunts and not simply adding the option to play a DVD and replace the awful opera browser with something better and faster would have made it take the place of the cheap dvd player in every home on the planet.
That's not mentioning the marketing opportunities they missed by not having themed wiis with DVDs and IP liscened games packed in. It's just an embarassing fuck up that makes people wonder if they know what the fuck they're doing.
>/vr/ here
>component
>wii
>retro games
uhh, lol? what the fuck am I reading?? why aren't you playing on original consoles with RGBS BNC cables and an extron switch with an RXI?
not sure if the dvd push would make a difference. it was a flavor of the month and wii sales came to a screeching halt
Retro games are very hard to come by in my region, and prices online are inflated as fuck due the rising price of the dollar and increased rarity.
It's easier for me to just put the ROMs (or ISOs in the case of PC Engine Turbo CD and Sega CD) on the SD card and play away on my CRT.
And I'm sure I'm not the only one at /vr/ who does that, there's plenty emulator threads who have mentioned the Wii for the expressed purpose of playing cheaply, nigh-free on a CRT.
Plus, it's still better than a fucking Retro5 :^)
>flavor of the month
I think you misspelled "four years"
I get it my man, it's just a dig at /vr/ and the crt general in general. stay radical.
The thing sold like chocolate flavored 10inch BBC dildos that spunked money and male affection at a dyke colony for YEARS!
The thing came to a screeching halt because nintendo stopped pushing it in media, publishing games for it, and didn't drop the prices or incentivize people to continue creating very profitable shovelware for it so they could fix their 3DS fuck up.
They kept this bullshit up when they were designing the WiiU clusterfuck.
And yeah, if the WiiMini could play DVDs and had Cars and Spongebob My Little Pony and Transformers themed SKUS with Wii games and DVDs of said IPS?
Would have sold out quickly at christmas time.
Nintendo just fucked it up. They didn't market their toy console like it was a toy. They gave up marketing it and sold it/treated it like it was an expensive luxury product.
Total fuck up.
What kind of marketing does Nintendo need?
Is having all adults in the Switch teaser the right idea? I feel like it doesn't match the product. Like you said, it's a toy, not something you play with your homies on a picnic table outside at night.
At least they changed the fucking name.
It's a good emulation machine with a potentially great library depending on your awareness of shovelware and tolerance of motion controls.
Sell the portability to the kids and people who have children and adolescent adults who seek novelty and escape.
Sell the docked switch as the oldschool game play and nostalgia to the adults and heavily push local co-op and cheap price. It's what sold the fucking NES Mini.
Sell to their strengths and the audience that is being completely ignored this gen. Not to a media friendly collection of hipsters that exist only in a boardroom.
>"it's on par with ps2"
>"it's a piece of shit"
So it's the same thing?
You have to do some digging. But when you do, you will be rewarded.
> i have heard people say its on par with the ps2 when it comes to games
The only people who would say that are extremely delusional fanboys.
That's totally ridiculous.
>mario galaxy
>good
When will this forced meme die
I like mine. And now that it's insanely cheap, there's really no reason not to own one. You'll probably spend more on batteries for the stupid wiimote than the system itself.
The difference between the wii and the ps2 is that the wii numbers aren't inflated by clever interpretations of what "sold" means and making the consoles broken out of the gate to force more rebuys.
The 100 million plus wii's that were out there were all mostly working and every wii owner bought games 2-5 at a time every month and kept them. The fucking thing was a legit goldmine.
I have no idea what nintendo was thinking with the wiiu.
>there's really no reason not to own one.
Well, I mean, aside from being able to do everything it does on your computer.
I played RE4 on it and shit was rad, it was really fun and immersive how they implemented those motion thingies into the gameplay. And punching zombies is cool
That being said it was the only game I genuinely enjoyed on Wii, so I sold it pretty quickly. Sport games were fun for about 10 minutes each
Oh, my bad. Stay tubular my mondo pal.
doing it all on pc lacks convenience imo
You are the most retarded person in the world. Kill your fucking self NOW.
just say "what's the consensus on this thing?" rather than "so what's the consensus on this thing?", you retard.
It probably takes less work setting all the emulators and stuff up on pc than it does to go get a wii u and start there.
You also get more options and can play gamecube and wii u games in higher resolutions with other improvements.
Once it's all set up it just takes opening a program and picking a game to get in to it.
Good system. Wide variety of games. Some innovative, some interesting, tons of shovelware due to how cheap it was to develop for. I would say looking at the Switch this was the last good Nintendo home console.
great console if you're willing to look up it's numerous hidden gems
shit console if all you played was wii sports and CoD
It's a shame the wii/guncon 4 seems like it'll be the last of the lightgun games in favor of vr shooters.
LA machine guns also got a port and hotd overkill came out on the PS3 as well, but that's been about it for a while
>Not buying Kodak Value Charger with 4 AA batteries included
6 years and still work like a freaking charm, god damn.
Not OP, but why are people now go spergy about anyone who says the word "so"?
it's really limp-wristed and reddit-esque
Its controller is the worst thing to happen to the industry in years.
So much so that games began to drop it fairly quickly and supplemented their own peripherals to be used with it, or better yet, simply used the "pro" controller featuring no motion controls. Most of the console's "hidden gems" fall into the latter variety.
It should never have existed. If it weren't for WiISports and WiiMotion, Nintendo would be bankrupt, and rather deservedly so.
This fucking pile of shit even managed to make Zelda unenjoyable.
Now, english isn't my first language, but I'm pretty sure the word "so" has existed in the english language before computers themselves, and it was used online long before reddit, in places such as Usenet and the old forums of yore.
What's your point?
If I said "thanks for the gold, kind sir", you could apply your same logic but it's still really fucking reddit.
My point is that getting salty because "it's reddit-esque" sounds pretty stupid, at least to me.
Maybe it's because I've never ever gone to reddit for anything and I just lurk Sup Forums on my free time, I don't know anymore. I come here more as a chore than a joy as is.
It's absolutely NOT on par with PS2 but its lesser acknowledged titles of worth oftentimes felt like an extension of the PS2 era. Titles like Pandora's Tower, Fragile Dreams and Cursed Mountain are the kinds of games that felt like the 6th gen's true final gasp.
Fragile Dreams deserves more love than it got.
Your post basically resumes the Wii library if you look under the more known shovelware like the "ZOO" bullshit (like gingerbread ninja or something like that).
I have a lot of Wii games for some reason.
It was like the Gamecube with worse controls desu.
You're right. Only fucking redditors would get so analblasted about it. I've been lurking over a decade and never visit reddit. I don't see the big deal.
He's just on his period.
You don't know the first fucking thing about what's going on or went on.
Just sit in the corner and try not to choke on your own tongue.
Not really. Only thing it had going for it was atmosphere. And that wasn't strong enough to be a central point.
The story, characters, and gameplay were all weak as hell.
Zelda hasn't been enjoyable since Majoras Mask.
