Is TF2 worth getting back into at all in its current state? Not baiting here, but there seems to be a strong hatred for it over the past couple years on Sup Forums.
I stopped playing after the F2P update since the community became unbearable soon after. Is it as bad as it was with all the kids and poorfag BRs filling the servers, or did it get any better? I noticed there are bots now too, would it be worth playing with them even? I haven't been following all the updates, but I can make an exception for the clusterfuck of cosmetic items if the bots are at least decent. Or should I just continue playing Overwatch, Siege, and UT99 and continue to ignore its existence? I kinda miss it.
i logged onto an old server, i asked them "why are you guys playing this shitty game" they responded "because we are retarded and it feels like home. and hats."
Cooper Perez
Overwatch exists, there's literally no reason to play TF2.
Robert Ross
Overwatch and TF2 are not the same game. t. anyone who has played both of them
Aiden Cooper
>All the old servers I used to go to no longer exist
I hate this.
Nathaniel Garcia
of course they're not the same game. One's an unoptimized hat simulator while the other is a team based shooter.
Brody Mitchell
Play with some friends for a bit of nostalgia.
Keep in mind, its not like they recently made it not f2p.
It's still gonna be in the same pile of crap state you left it in.
Alexander Miller
My old server was pure cancer ran by the Halolz owner who routinely stole content from reddit to stay afloat.
But it was MY cancerous server. Fug...
John Garcia
>stole reddit for content to stay afloat?
What?
Adrian Carter
>tf2 is fun and it really doesn´t matter if you win or lose because everyone is there for the stupid shit
>ow is not as fun as tf2 and if you try to play for fun everyone gets mad are you
I stopped playing tf2 when ow came out and I really miss it.
Grayson White
Play Paladins with the rest of us
Brandon Johnson
It's way worse than the f2p update now. They added some gimmick competitive clone for all their servers, making it a shitfest. Basically if you don't spam with a medic backing you up, you lose most of your games.
Overwatch is a casual shitfest. Don't play that.
Camden Perry
OW is great if you want to play something "serious" (yeah, sure).
TF2 is more a "I want to have fun" game.
Alexander Peterson
>Paladins >us
Eli Torres
If you can find a decent community server, it's worth getting back into. Matchmaking is fucking garbage and it'll make you hate everyone.
John Butler
> I really miss it. that's a lie
Christopher Hill
I remember playing a shit ton of vs_Saxtonhale back in 2010 or 2011. The WarioWare mode was a lot of fun too.
Austin Hill
>used to play tf2 fours hours having fun and stopping when I was tired
>play ow for like an hour and stop because everyone is an idiot or I get salty
I know they are different but TF2 never made me feel that way
Kayden Kelly
>i miss it You do that only until you start playing again t. Did that and got bored and uninstalled 30 minutes after returning to the game
Evan Baker
>Sup Forums hates a game >therefore the game is automatically bad You're a sheep. And that's not even getting into how the hate it gets is a fucking meme.
Jace Hill
>tfw nobody plays Yukon anymore
It was such a fun map provided your team could mount an actual defense
Ayden Reyes
>Sup Forums hates popular things
wow... holy shit... what? I mean...WHAT?!
Ethan Brown
Matchmaking is THE single worst update TF2 has ever released, without a doubt. If it can be avoided, if you have a group of friends or a good server that miraculously isn't dead yet, then the game is still fun outside of the occasional bullshit (like the team being so retarded that they broke the righteous bison by "fixing" its "bug"). If you're playing match maker then you're going to have a fucking terrible experience. Everything about it is a perfect storm to make sure the game is as unfun as possible.
>No ability to change team composition >Which leads to 1/2 of the team quitting as soon as the first objective is taken so they can go back to rerolling their team at the matchmaker screen, leading to 95% of games turning into a steamroll >Matches end almost as soon as they start, so on the rare occasion that you find a competent bunch of players, you get to play with them for 10 minutes tops before they're scattered to the winds again >F2P outnumber the competent players at minimum 2 to 1, being extremely generous
Julian Gonzalez
Yes and no Yes because TF2 is the most balanced its ever been in its current state. Disregard ANY vanilla nostalgiafag that thinks TF2 was most balanced on release when Spy, Pyro, and Engineer were all completely useless, Demo had 6 shots in his Grenade Launcher and airdets functioned the way they did, and the Sandvich, Ubersaw, and Kritzkrieg didn't exist.
No because almost all community servers are dead or dying and Valve gutted quick play and made finding games a huge fucking pain in the ass even though the game is usually in the top 10 most played games on steam.
TF2 is a game I hold dear to my heart and I really miss the way it was before matchmaking.
Elijah Garcia
>play TF2 >kill enemy team by yourself >wonder where your team is

sorry for blogging but >used to play tf2 a fuckload in 2012, i was a poorfag >found this one achievement server where people micspammed non-stop >shit was cash >go back to it >it's gotten shittier, some of the same people are around but it's not even fun anymore, it just feels like a circlejerk now >met one of my friends through it and now we don't even talk about much anymore
it was called something like house of butter
Caleb Martin
what class u main
Logan Carter
>Taking casuals seriously >Playing comp period Sounds like autism to me.
Owen Ortiz
scout and occasionally pyro/demo
Dominic King
more cosmetics is a negative.
Kayden Thompson
I've really done my best to dress up every class in a fitting setting-appropriate outfit, but it's really fucking hard because for every 1 item that makes sense and works nicely with the art style, there's 3 "funny" joke items that look like fucking garbage and clutter everything up. And with unusuals they've shat it up even more, so now everyone runs around with bolts flying out of their banana hat while waving around their cow-skinned flamethrower.
Daniel King
if u dont like cosmetics, you can:
>use nohats mod in community servers and community competitive lobbies >find and play on vanilla servers where people choose not to wear nonstandard cosmetics. Rare, but do exist >play TF2C mod which is popular with Sup Forums users >play vs bots >have a cry
Luis Lopez

William Campbell
>ow is not as fun as tf2 and if you try to play for fun everyone gets mad are you
...That adds to the fun
Dylan Gutierrez
The answer isn't as simple as yes or no.
>Why yes: Game is basically the same, still gets minor updates and there's too much variety for people who like to play more than one class or weapon set.
>Why no: Dead servers, empty maps, some modes like arena are practically dead.
In my opinion, people just got bored. It happens, I know people here usually complain about balance issues and such, but the game has never been as broken as it was during the early years.
Blake Williams
Does any Santa-user want to buy me a game or two off my wishlist (sales any day now), for my entire TF2 inventory ("""worth""" up to $140 according to backpack.tf, note the """)?
>/76561197993307614
Alternatively, would someone who's still into TF2 wanna trade mannco keys for some of my stuff?
Michael Sanders
post wishlist and i'll think about it
Jordan Bennett
steamcommunity.com/id/Jeppepeppe/wishlist oh right, I was supposed to put that next to the backpack.tf link there at the >, but apparently linking backpack.tf in any way counts as spam
Obviously I don't think the inventory is worth that much, that's ludicrous. But with sales, we could maybe come up with something.
>just market them! pic
John Ramirez
tf2 doesnt support lgbtq
ow:1 tf2: 0
Brody Cox
I heard new update removed server browser/removed volvo servers from browser so you can't quickly find a populated server with a map you want in a few seconds. Basically forcing you to use quick game match making shit that takes ages.
Is this true?
Eli Roberts
>1968 >Pauling was confirmed gay by Pinkerton
Levi Garcia
>I heard new update removed server browser/removed volvo servers from browser so you can't quickly find a populated server with a map you want in a few second
yes this is unfortunately true
>Basically forcing you to use quick game match making shit that takes ages.
this is not true, my searches with MM take 30 seconds maximum to find a game unless I want to play Hydro or Medieval
you can save a template of the maps you want to play, so that the game remembers exactly what you're looking for
casual matchmaking could be a lot better, but the queue times aren't actually long, anyone who tells you otherwise must live in Timbuktu or something
Charles Bennett
For me it usually takes 5 minutes to find a match with the new system while it only took >20 seconds before
Cameron Powell
>dead servers plenty of populated ones >some modes like arena are practically dead because its too much waiting in a fast paced game like tf2
Adrian Collins
TF2 is still skill based whereas overwatch isn't because it was designed post-moba
Nathan Carter
Doesn't change the fact more cancer cosmetic shit is a negative.
Ian Myers
it's a positive if you like it (I do).
Also Overshit has shit cosmetics of its own, and no way to avoid seeing those cosmetics, unlike TF2.
So TF2 is the superior game from both perspectives of a person who likes or doesn't like cosmetics.
Jordan Johnson
tf2 may be pretty shitty in it's current state but it's still a much better game than overwatch will ever be
OW was fun for the first few months, it got boring really fast
Connor Thomas
>game is a first shooter >default is objectively the best look for every class >people still bother to pay money to play dress up
Landon Lee
Reinstalled TF2 a couple das ago, and its still pretty good. Too bad quickplay is kinda fucked now.
Evan Rogers
>using unlocks
Brayden Reed
i have a friend who already quit overwatch after a few months and normally he sticks with games for ages
there's no content, no skill, and characters are pretty boring, so what is there to keep players coming back?
Asher Bennett
i think disciplinary action and escape plan should be nerfed, because as they stand now they're just about straight upgrades to the stock Shovel
Sebastian Bennett
If you don't wear cosmetics, you would not believe the amount of autistic screeching you get. Every time I dominated someone he'd be yelling and whining and starting votekicks against me. It's funny at first but eventually you just want to play the fucking game, so you throw on a hat so people will shut the fuck up.
Owen Allen
ctfd user
Jeremiah Carter
I'll probably stop playing the day Nemu shuts down
Might be sooner than I realize
Michael Reed
say what you want about the tf2 community but, have you seen the catalog lately i never seen as much cancerous shit on Sup Forums
>so what is there to keep players coming back? no idea must be the same thing that draws so many people to dota 2 and LoL
Benjamin Sullivan
I've seen it plenty but I've only been kicked maybe once or twice for "hacking" because of it.
Cameron Robinson
why not both?
Jeremiah Sullivan
well dota and lol at least have heaps of characters to choose from, OW has only what, 22?
but anyway from what I hear from OW players, the queue times are increasing, so obviously people are losing interest
Josiah Lee
> started playing agin precisely because of these ow-tf2 threads >60 hours in a week, having a shitload of fun in casuals
this game is so good, it's unreal
Lincoln Collins
shovel is straight up the worst melee
Owen Harris
Say that to my face not online and see what happens
Isaac Miller
you know the escape plan marks you for death no matter how much hp you have, right?
Nicholas Green
>only use at low health when you'll die in 1 shot anyway >move at scout speed and crit people in the face it even has some other uses >easy rollouts >help med build uber
Caleb Thomas
listen man, in the rough and tumble world of video game consumerism, you gotta stand for a brand: Sony or Nintendo, League or DOTA, Overwatch or TF2. Only faggots sit on fences, probably because they like the hard rods in their ass. Remember to blindly support your brand of choice and treat everyone else that doesn't agree with you like subhumans.
Kayden Johnson
Is Cactus Canyon STILL in beta?
Parker Lopez
>crit people in the face
you do know the escape plan isn't the equalizer, right? They're 2 different weapons
>help med build uber
you can do that with your rocket launcher at any hp, its not like the escape plan damages you or anything
Alexander Hill
tf2 player since 2007 here
game still is fun as fuck and very challenging
im mostly playing casual ctf
Tyler Gray
>now loading: Turbine
fuck
Noah Thomas
I didn't know you were being sarcastic until the last sentence. Shows how much this gets parroted.
Brody Davis
>you do know the escape plan isn't the equalizer, right? They're 2 different weapons Escape plan still gets random crits dummy.
>you can do that with your rocket launcher at any hp Not without wasting your crit heals and ammo. If you have no rockets loaded and someone jumps you, you're fucked.
Luis Rivera
the wierdest things for me are when people post earnings reports or sales numbers and then act like they personally achieved something. Like the thing last year with the pictures of stock in best buys and shit. I'm sure we'll see it this year too: "Yes, we did it bros!"
Jason Gonzalez
It's only marginally worse whilst still being overall great at first glance but at larger inspection you notice a trend of horrible decisions from developers who don't care for their game anymore.
Fun to get back into but not invested if that makes sense.
Landon Cook
its mostly bait
Brody Hughes
I'll be honest, as soon as they publicly revealed that map I knew they were never going to finish it.
Luis Watson
Except the lack of skill-based movement. CoD has sliding and diving. Titanfall has wall running. Dirty Bomb has chain wall jumps. Warframe has flying and flipping and shit. Battlefield has parachutes and vehicles and vaulting. Tf2 has air strafe, surfing, explosive jumping, crimping and tons more.
Overwatch has... A dash in a straight line and a go up button on 2 characters.
If I put 200 hours in any of the other games, I'm going to learn new skills that new players won't have. Of I put 200 into overwatch, I'll have a bigger number and nothing else to other games can't offer. Map awareness, better aim, projectile prediction, every other fps has what overwatch has and more.
I put my hours into it but I just wasn't having fun anymore, the games skill ceiling is just too low . Plus character movement is so sluggish and the ASSFAGGOTS movement acceleration makes dodging not an option.
