In fact, most of the cast in SK2 felt really static because they already had most of their development out of the way.

Last time I checked Kat parents were still on the run, Snek still wasn't anywhere closer to recovering her emotions and Yomi still had some unresolved issues / unexplained arcs about her childhood. I give those 3 as an example because they are my favorite.

And based on this you may even be able to summon some helpers, between that and using cards to alter your stats it seems to be getting better ideas than the both Versus games.

Well yeah, they're literally criminals and will be executed or imprisoned if caught. The only way to resolve that is for Kat to somehow get them off the leash which would require her to somehow change the entire structure of the shinobi rules.

Hikage said she was born without them, so there's nothing to recover. She knows what emotions are, she just doesn't display them herself. Each game has her opening up more and more though.

Literally through entire Burst Kat says that she has become shinobi in order to redeem her parents "crime" (they failed a mission). She says that "she hopes that one day they may reunite". Katsuragi's singular goal as a shinobi student is to rise through the ranks, eventually gaining enough prestige within the shinobi world that she can have her parents pardoned. Unfinished arc, we will never see this happen as Kat will never even graduate, all girls will forever be stuck in the state they are now.

There were few moments when she showed emotions - particularly Hinata's death. At several points she showed that although she does not understand emotions well, she wants to learn them. So yeah, another unfinished arc - until she actually learns the emotions but then again, not gonna happen, we will get more Versus bullshit and games focused solely on fanservice and not character development

She lived her childhood in slums, resents Ikaruga for being "daughter of a rich family". Also, there was that whole childhood friend (Murakumo) arc. And there were several smaller stories too (her parents).

Eh. I feel like her actually getting them would ruin the entire appeal of her character. She still functions perfectly fine without them and it's not like she's a "psh, nothin personnel kid" edgelord like most emotionless characters are portrayed.

It's not like not having them makes her worst in any way. It's actually ironic because despite not having them, she's still one of the more caring characters in the series and bends over backwards to make others happy even if she doesn't understand why certain things make them happy.

A lot of that stuff is end game level though, which wouldn't come around until they make a final game. Which probably isn't going to happen any time soon.

Love it when that backfired with Imu. Those scenes are always one of my favorites.
Also, Hikage DOES have emotions, they are just heavily subdued.

and this is what I'm actually afraid of - after Timeline 1 was killed off, spinoffs (SV, EV) were made canon, and now PBS also was confirmed canon, there may not be "final game" - they will push more and more games that are focused solely on fanservice and there will be no character or story development. I mean, Versus games were already like that. And PBS """"story"""" doesn't look good so far. And the fact that they confirmed that their next action game (SK3 most likely) will follow after PBS story.

I'm afraid that the series is stuck in it's current point, and nothing new will happen.
Not to mention that with each new game they ruin the original cast even more - Yomi was reduced to literally one thing she talks about, Kat no longer cares about her original objective, now it's all about groping and nothing else...

I mean, there's literally no reason for them to end the series as long as it keeps making money and the team enjoys working on them.

As it's been pointed out already, a lot of the backstories were mostly resolved back in Burst with a few exceptions. SK2 had a chance to wrap things up more but they spent more time dicking around with the Yoma side of things while at the same time still not advancing much plot wise.

At this point the characters have pretty much reached the peak of their development and the only way to expand on it would be to introduce new characters for them to interact with, which the Versus games did. Even if they do make another serious game there's still not really anywhere to go in terms of development unless they decide to end the series and do a next generation kind of thing.

I love the series and characters, but Senrans aren't deep man. Since most of their character arcs have been wrapped up already, they're kind of just doing their jobs now, which is mainly what SK2 was about.

Or they could take another route and create situations to make characters that have barely talk to each other interact, it's aways the same pairs or trios. Even between team members there's a lot missing, like you never see Asuka talk with Hibari or Yagyu, or Homura with the rest of her team, the only odd one I remember is Homura and Yagyu fighting in Burst.
Of course, I'm not counting Girl's Heart missions, those barely qualify.
