Is Witcher 1 the greatest pleb filter of all time?

Is Witcher 1 the greatest pleb filter of all time?

It's a fantastic game, though I can see why the combat might turn some people off.

Those graphics are terrible

No but it's a really shitty game

he looks weak

Yes.

Oh look, disgusting peasants.

The Beast boss fight that followed that encounter was such a bitch

WRONG

Way to prove my point :^)

Your mother sucks dwarf cock.

*tavern music intensifies*

No, I liked it and I'm a pleb.

Those graphics are terrible

>that UI

Shani is best girl.

I'd say God Hand is, but TW1 comes close. It's still my favorite Witcher game though that isn't saying much considering I didn't really like 2 and 3.

Choosing Shani is the dumbest thing anyone could EVER do

Why would you say that? They are obviously not terrible, especially not for a game that old.

how the fuck they managed to get at least this quality of visuals with nvn1 engine

Copy-pasted trees, weeds, planks, mold.
Bad water reflection and texture.
Rectangular and sharp edges on the supporting beams and the tower.
That fucking oil spread in the water.
The blurry low texture sky.
The edgy shadows near the bridge.
The bad and invasive UI.
The ugly sword enhancement effect.
The clipping of sword, armor, hair, body.

Its an ugly game.
>b-b-b-but its old
Yes, its old and ugly. Doesn't make it less ugly.

not him but i don't think it's ugly

say what you will about TW1, but it had the best UI out of all three games

It did require a large amount of patience before the story finally started moving though, but agreed.

Its a free country, you are allowed to be wrong.

It's pretty functional to be honest

Some stuff about it is a bit weird because Witcher 1 is in this space between third person and isometric RPG

i wasn't implying that i was ever blown away by it's visual fidelity or anything and i am pretty sure what the game is actually running on is quite different from the NW engine

but i am just sort of fine with how it looks, some areas create a nice atmosphere despite the limited visual quality

some of the characters are goofy

I remember reading about the game is some PC magazine and bought it on the spot. It really came out of nowhere and felt very different from anything I had played before, I enjoyed the shit out of it and hearing about a sequel a few later almost had me in tears.

I don't know what kind of fucking magic the devs used to make these games but I fear we aren't getting anything else like that anytime soon.

...

It looks bad, if you are okay with bad thats fine, just don't push it on others.

Best card along with the Nurses.

I was glad they brought that atmosphere back in Witcher 3, Witcher 2 was a let down in that aspect.

Also yeah, it is sad that most games won't have this "essence" the Witcher games have.

>sleep with the vampire prostitute
>mfw the card pops up

The nurses one was fucking hilarious.

>dying people everywhere
>"Oh please fuck us mister Witcher!"

>couldn't cuck Batman

Suffering. I wanted to ride the old girl.

Thief Gold, Deus Ex and SS2 are pretty good pleb filters too.

But I think the biggest pleb filter is Planescape Torment. I've tried playing it and can't do it.

Of course clipping and bad UIs, shadows with edges, copied pasted foilage, never happen in modern games

>Abigail's card
I came so fucking hard, the whole life and death situation made it even better.

Y being bad doesn't make X not bad. Learn logic.

post cards

It's a 9 years old game, made with a 13 years old engine, so, yeah, not the best you could see today.

She actually deserved to die, she was the real beast of the village.

>The bad and invasive UI.
>an interface that allows you to see your health, your entire inventory, switch sword styles, and has multiple tabs to keep things organised while still leaving the middle of the screen open for gameplay
>bad

The UI in TW2/3 is ass in comparison, big giant letters, have to scroll constantly and it takes up the entire screen, completely taking you out of the game.

??

>It's a 9 years old game

how did they get away with this

Yes, because everyone else were morally perfect saints.

>But I think the biggest pleb filter is Planescape Torment. I've tried playing it and can't do it.
It's a visual novel, which tries to be a table-top RPG without having an actual human game master making stuff up.
Gameplay of early cRPGs suffers heavily under this problem. It took gamedevs a while until they figured out how do video games as their own thing instead of adapting other concepts.

I did a playthrough where I let her be burned to death, the villagers were right, she was part of a fucked up cult that did human sacrifices, she did all those terrible things and the beast was her dog that came to haunt her and the village.

They don't make games like this anymore, even Witcher 3 did not have this amount of grey morality except in the quest that had the Cat School Witcher that slaughtered an entire village.

Or the fact you spend half the game trekking in a fucking swamp.

Fixed your UI.
Protip: you use hotkeys for swords and signs, you don't need experience visible at all times, you don't need the largest element of the UI to be just a big icon that blinks occasionally, you don't need the fucking day/night cycle shown as a big icon, its obvious, and so on.

>an interface that allows you to see your health, your entire inventory, switch sword styles, and has multiple tabs to keep things organised while still leaving the middle of the screen open for gameplay
I AM A PC GAME, miss me yet?
>The UI in TW2/3 is ass in comparison, big giant letters, have to scroll constantly and it takes up the entire screen, completely taking you out of the game.
Hello, I am a console game. I'm the future.

Sure, but she made them do even worse crimes, there is no excuse for her, but the Book Geralt would spare her. At least she turns into a better person if she survives.

Torment is a pleb filter, as in if someone pretends to like it, they are a pleb.

She is prettier than Triss.
She's a cunt though.

beast came because of the fucked up shit the villagers did you moron, they were all cunts

ITT:
People who complain that withcer 1 looks like shit completely ignoring the engine
Guess what? It was made by Bioware in a top down RPG style. Considering the level of zoom any animation is a fucking achievemt for its time

Try just considering what amount of work would go into making Planescape Torment "feel" like a third person RPG

Besides only girls care about graphics

>i like a game that not a lot of people like
>better let other people know that i'm pretty cool (is actually a homo)

I could never side with Rasputin and his underlings, fuck those clowns and their pitchforks.

Yes, its her fault the Odo planned to kill his brother and the retarded guard wanted to dispose of his woman.

Play the game again, user, Geralt flat out says the Beast came for HER and the village.

There's no way I'm going to play this game with its shitty boring combat. Post more cards.

Uh, no.

Then back the fuck off?

yes, I need to go replay that fucking game again soon.

it's the best Witcher game desu, too bad kiddies have no patience and drop it too early.

Neither would Geralt, but it was interesting to see the other side of the story that no one would see because "gotta save dat pussy yo"

She really used that voodoo doll magic on him, sure he wanted to kill him but he would not have did it without her intervention, as for that retarded guard that was just pure evil, was surprised the Beast did not kill him when the entire village was basically dead at the end of it all.

I'M ITCHING TO HIT SOMEONE.

>consolepleb detected

literally the most functional PC UI out of all the Witcher games.

*grabs you by the throat*

I read some of the early books and knowing what Triss did made me go GOD NO. Shani barely even appeared in the books if i remember right.

Just go to the wiki, my man, they're there.

The xbox hueg medallion aside the interface is great

>plebeians will never know the feeling when "that sword is for monsters"

...

>River of Life

Goddamn that song was a masterpiece.

>the engine is shit, thus the shit visuals aren't shit

Nobody cares. The engine being shit doesn't excuse the execution being shit.
In fact it means they were not only shit at producing visuals, but also shit at picking an engine. Shit.

10 years later nobody made an edit of this where its one drowner being swarmed by witchers.

I just had the idea that we might be waiting for the MMO before that one is posted. I'll concede it would be a tip top timing.

...

Apparently they had to rewrite a lot of the engine, but still impressive nonetheless.

>play roche's path in TW2
>kill the dragon because I think that it's a mercy killing
>start playing 3
>"oh saskia's gwent card has a weird name"

I've made mistakes

>Plebs will never realize how much of a bro Siegfried is
>They'll never know how degenerate elves truly are
>They will never experience Chapter 4

What was reasoning behind jakub de aldersberg endgame?
Was he right or was he just delusional maniac?

>doesn't excuse the execution being shit.
What? Execution was fine.

Only real problem of Witcher1 was the combat sysemt being too simplistic, rest was legit great roleplaying on pc.

>tfw I finally understood this image after the 50th time of going back to the swamp and just running through every aggro'd enemy instead of killing them all

>Not playing both paths before Witcher 3
You are doing it wrong, user

Saying the word shit 28 times isn't an argument.

What killed it for me was that there was just a single model for every type of character. Every granny or hooker looked the same no matter where you went. Obviously it had a lot of other problems too.

Witcher 1 might be great if CDR remakes it into something playable. They can keep the music though.

Combat was fine, the issue was there was too much walking around and too much trash fighting.
Basically too much filler, too much "downtime", between the moments of good stuff.

The sad thing is, he was right, he tried to make Geralt see but he didn't, the one he looked up to was the one who killed him.

White Wolf fixes all the reused models and generally makes the game look better.

>le i never made an argument but i expect to be given a counter argument man

I really, really liked the buildup for the menu song as the game loads. It helped that on my machine the loading time corresponded to it.
I only later learned that was incidental.

I played it until the end because Sup Forums promised me a great story.
All I had was unsufferable racist cunts, broken combat (I played on hard and past the first chapter, I was completely unstoppable), and backtracking.

[And Steam tells me I played 48 hours of this snore-fest ! Holy shit !]

TW1 taught me never to trust elves

>This game sucks and looks bad
>Haha plebs!!!

who cares
he's just a second-rate Ciri

They already did with the free to download Enhanced Version user.

it's good but the combat IS cancer but that's edemic in rpg since nerdy game developers don't know how combat actually works so it's either full on roll dodging or standing still and slashing.

Yes, but your patience paid off and you obtained something that most games today can't archive.

How did you last until then? I thought most people who trust elves die in infancy.
