Let's narrow down all the problems Sonic 3 brought to the franchise:
-We are introduced to Knuckles, who was considered the red, tough/edgy Sonic.
-The game has an overreaching plot. So big that you had to buy another cartridge to finish the story, it even had cutscenes. Not to much mention dark tones like Eggman burning down a forest.
-The tradition of adding more characters with every new game.
This game was the start of Sonic's ruination.
