GW1 thread, niggas. Get in here.

>tfw gw1s younger sjw sibling ruined the entire series for good

still hurts.

The pain will never go away.

how on earth was pre-searing so unbelievably comfy? one of my favorite areas from any game

GW2 is such a joke to anyone who actually really liked the first games.

It's almost insulting really

The lore and story is fine. It's the shitty gameplay that GW2 has.

Oh neat, you got rid of trinity? Oh.. you also made all the classes feel samey and there's no team dynamics as a result. What's that? Everyone builds the exact same way in PvE regardless of their class? gee whiz sure is balanced!

It was just pleasant to be in. Pre Searing Ascalon was the very image of idyllic countryside that was still interesting enough not to be just generic idyllic countryside. And I absolutely loved the starting quests.

Funny since when everyone played GW1, its terrible story and generic setting were openly mocked, constantly. GW2 really makes the first one seem like a pile of gold, though.

>when everyone played GW1, its terrible story and generic setting were openly mocked

I'll take things that never happened for 500. GW was and still is considered perhaps the only mmo where story was more than a backdrop and a justification for enabling collection of bear asses.

yeah none of the stories were ever good but the setting? nah man the games environments were all beautiful and that was always cited as a major plus to the game.

>well never see a remastered version of the jade sea

>its terrible story and generic setting were openly mocked, constantly.

That was true when the first GW, prophecies, came out, but then it got fleshed out with all the expansions and become good.

You're kidding, I hope. Prophecies' story about random ascensions to stop an evil Lich who's evil for the sake of being evil didn't start the series off in a good light.

I still have vivid memories of laughing really hard at Shiro sliding up a set of stairs as he performed basic emotes to show how much inner turmoil he had over killing people because of a begger's prophecy.

And I don't even need to bring up Kormir.

Guild Wars was NOT known for its story telling. That's a fantasy people invented after 2 came out, since 2's was that much worse than 1's. Players were hopeful about 2's PvE because they wanted to see the story fleshed out beyond stereotypes, and to see cinematics that weren't jank, barely scripted emotes of the characters slip and sliding across the map.

Low quality of character animations has nothing to do with the quality of the story being told. And Prophecies wasn't just about Khilbron. The biggest and strongest parts of it were exodus from Ascalon and the subsequent fight against Mursaat. The story itself, its presentation and how it tied with the game from the gameplay perspective (hey, those Mursaat can't be that tough, oh shit, what the fuck is Spectral Agony?) was excellent.

...

Looking at the bigger picture, I think theyweren't the bad guys.

>played when I was younger, just messing around in pre searing ascalon
>met some guy and we decided to explore outside the walls
>all those charr and crazy shit
>eventually do enough quests to get to when searing happens
>absolutely blown away at how the entire area is now destroyed and completely changed

God damn I want to experience it again.
Is it still possible to play OG GW1?

The servers are up and running. American Kamadan is still packed, although half of the people there are goldseller bots. Most common problem people run into with GW is retrieving their account info. Today ran into a group of four guys that were playing Nightfall as a lan party, at least that's what they said. Was jelly.

I was playing pre-Searing last night.

Trying to grind to level 20 without dying is now possible, but also a bitch. Takes fucking forever to get to level 10. And apparently even longer to hit 16, which is when you're meant to dump all your quests for XP.

>Low quality of character animations has nothing to do with the quality of the story being told

It does in a fucking visual interactive medium.

>its presentation

No? You just got done agreeing that the character animations was crap which is a huge part of the presentation.

Sweet, I know what I'll be doing tonight then.
No way I will remember my old account from 2007 so I'll probably just re buy it.

A huge part, but not entirety of it. The setting was presented to you not just through cutscenes. There was depth if you cared to find it, like talking to henchmen in the outposts depending on the area of the world you went to.

You could try contacting their customer support with the keys you used to activate the game, or your email/account name/character name. It's how I retrieved mine.

Yeah, don't give ANet money. They're one of the worst companies in existence, right now.

Just use their servers and make them spend money instead.

Also bear in mind they intentionall severely throttle GW1 speeds now, so you'll probably want to image download the whole game beforehand. There're some extensions to force a server to download from that will fix the 10 kb/s download speeds too, since they went hyper Jew over their servers over the past few years.

>never got the chance to play this game in its prime
>now its dead

RIP

at least I enjoyed GW2

This. I thought it was just me being paranoid, but the ping really took a nosedive. I had better latencies on an internet far more shitty, when the game was actively played, than what I get now. Not to mention how fucking jewish they are. Not a single character slot/stash tab sale in twelve years.

Holy shit you weren't lying.
This is retarded.

>still got the dvd jewel cases and all the cd's as well as the codes and manual booklets.

They're my prized treasures.
