I just tried the first game on GBC and holy shit it's bad. You can barely see where you're going, enemies pop up from the ground right beneath you and enemy attacks are practically homing missiles you can't avoid. Why does this game get so much praise.

>Why does this game get so much praise.
Anime tiddies

i dont think the first one really does

I mean these fucking assholes

WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO GO? NO MAP, NO DIRECTION

WHAT THE FUCK

Mediocre game but praised by nu Sup Forums because muh brown waifu xd

and these fucking homing missiles

Pretty sure no one enjoys the GBC title.

Just like nier and haydee desu

nah son, it's you who's bad here.
t. guy who played it for the first time few months back.

>literally 15 minutes into the game
>already buttmad

The starting sequence wasn't that bad, but after that it's basically "fuck my shit up" the game. Like getting raped by these fucking straw niggers.

you're wrong. It's my favorite.

just give me a tl;dr on the game do you have to play it in order to enjoy the rest of the series

Why wouldn't anyone enjoy it? it's not a bad game, it just has some flaws. Personally, I think it's the best one in the series.

Pirate's Curse is the only good game in the entire series.

I think you should play it even if you don't finish it so you can see what the shantae games should be.

>modern Sup Forums
Holy shit the quality of this place has really gone downhill

I guess it's true, Sup Forums really is just a bunch of casuals now.

it's a linear series. It's pretty damn essential. And IMO one of the more satisfying and longest lasting games in the series. The sequels feel like babby-mode shit in comparison most of the time, and there's no more manual dancing in sequels.

That's the least of my concern, I don't care aboutt hat. It's the fact that enemies spawn right on top of you with no indication whatsoever. Like what the fuck, if I wanted to play memory I'd play fucking memory.

Nah. S1 = PC > RR = ½GH

Nigga, those enemies are there to keep you from going that way at the start.

That sucks but to be fair thats a problem a lot of old games have because of hardware limitations, having the screen zoomed out and more enemies on screen would probably kill the framerate.

>still no remake
I wish wayforward would just use the HGH assets for a quickie remake, the first game is good but it's dated and could really use a larger viewpoint along with a map

I'm already being too generous by saying Pirate's Curse is good, honestly is just ok. Shantae is a mediocre series.

whatever ya say

It really isn't that great. The dungeons are fun but the overworld is not.

The worst part is when they tell you to go east, but in order to go east you need to go west.

>The worst part is when they tell you to go east, but in order to go east you need to go west.
That was pretty stupid. I think Wayfoward made fun of it though.

I can agree Shantae is fairly mediocre but Pirate's Curse is a great game and really a stand out title for wayforward in general

The hardest part of S1 is the highest speed for the dancing minigame thing, fuck that shit.

Didn't really have a problem with avoiding as the game is decent at telegraphing a lot of stuff. My problem is the exploration doesn't really do well with HP sponge enemies and delicate platforming. SOTN and Super Metroid was easy as fuck because at some point you could just run through enemies easily if you just want to check out an area real quick that may or may not be the place you need to go.

For gods sake, how?

It's true, for a platformer Shantae games don't have much depth and the dance mechanic is just tedious, combine that with a lot of backtracking and you get a pretty meh game.
What Pirate's Curse did good was zooming out the camera and mapping every skills to a button or combination of buttons instead of stoping to do a dance, I get it's in character but it's just tedious, the pirate tools are a lot more dynamic, also it has a skill that let's you go very fast wich aliviates the backtracking. Still Pirate's Curse is way too slow in giving you any tools and feels like a slog for an unfortunate duration.

It's one of my favorite GBC games desu.

Shantae is a dog shit series, only loved for being overly sexualized.

Nice bootleg.

I can agree with that.

>overly sexualized.
She is a dancer though.

those guys probably aren't weenies. Pirate's curse is my favorite but I also finished the original because I'm not a scrub.

>GAME
what did he mean by this?

Actually challenging, largest game world, memorable events, dancing's fun ...

Based on these images, just in case you don't know: Hold the attack button to run. It allows you to dodge better. Although it allows you to get in different type of trouble as well.

I tried running and avoiding enemies but they just spawn right in my face either way.

>always saw this at blockbuster
>regret not at least renting it in hopes that I would have forgotten to return it

>game has a run/walk function
>default speed is not run

Automatic trash. I sure do enjoy having to hold down a button for practically an entire game.

Personally the only great wayforward game is Contra 4.
