Don't worry, he'll just skim funds off the next stupid publisher to give them money.

The SEGA trial was watched by the entire industry. Due to companies seeing if they could do the same. There's a reason why they are focusing on their own IPs.

It is a happy new year after all

>implying anyone will work with them after the farce that was Colonial Marines
>implying anyone will work with Randy "let me play you a song a wrote because someone hurt my feelings on the internet" Pitchford

Gearbox needs to die slowly

>tfw borderlands 3 will probably save them

Not if they flounder before 2018

>2018 at the earliest

It's not going to do anything, they're going to continue plummeting and doing shit until they released a hacked together joke of a game that everyone buys then returns out of disappointment like Nu Male's Sky. Gearbox went all in with Battleborn and blew it so hard they won't be able to recover in the next year, especially with shit like the $60 Bulletstorm remaster on the horizon. They've blown all goodwill and are floundering.

it was the damn gamergoobers
randy pitchford did nothing wrong

I can't see that happening.

2K put a lot of money towards Gearbox and Battleborn and that blew up spectacularly in their face. Not to mention BL Pre-Sequel performed poorly; even though it was outsourced it still would have done damage to the brand name.

The Bulletstorm remaster maybe one person wanted will kill them, guaranteed. They are self publishing a game that costs about $10 if that at retail for full price.

>tfw a game from five years ago full of penis jokes is what ends up killing Gearbox
Huh

Good. I hope Quantic Dream bankrupts next.

Yeah, but Bulletstorm will save them. Remember how successful that game was the first time around?

>Remember how successful that game was the first time around?
No.

they'll start to go under and get bought out by a bigger company for their IPs, just to have staff gutted and replaced by people willing to work on half-assed reboots and sequels

I think I'd prefer they die quickly. I don't want any saving throws at the last second.

Serves them right for Colonial Marines and then pretending to be a victim.

2017 looks better already

Someone post the article where Randy says he gets nice emails about Colonial Marines on a regular basis even to this day

2017 will be fucking fantastic.

>A company that hates its "fans", lies and steals, and makes shitty subpar games that appeal to very little people are going to go under.

This will be a great way to start out the year.

You underestimate all the immature 10 year Olds and "lol so random xD" """"""adults""""""" who would pay for another penis joke simulator, especially an official gearbox sequel. Will it save them? Maybe not, but it'll make their graves not so deep for the time being.

>see article
>not only gearbox but twitter is in bad condition too

Imagine a Sup Forums without twitter posts...

>Not to mention BL Pre-Sequel performed poorly
But those Tales games did well, didn't they?

Silly user. Look at Twitch TV and YouTube. Amazon, Facebook, and Google will enter a bidding war to see which company can ruin what little appeal Twitter has, the fastest.

>twitter is in bad condition too
I find an hard time believing that, what's the reasoning?

NOBODY

Truly this has been a year of miracles.

Can't tell if bait
But Twitter is/was a fad, so it's time has come.

Yeah but they're Telltale games

KNOWS THE TROUBLE I'VE SEEN

They're hemorrhaging money and can't deal with online harassment very well. No one's investing because they have a bad reputation and a lot of suicides and bullying examples have come from Twitter. There's a ton of stuff that's been suggested they implement, and they've refused. Twitter is dying and they can't afford to keep it running much longer.

Nobody can be that stupid.

Doubt it, normies love cinematic games.

google.de/search?q=twitter shares plunge drop

They're not doing badly per se, but they've been having problems lately.

Twitter is a good source of news and information. Only if you really want to see it yourself you'll see any drama.

Hell, I use it more often than any other social media combined and I use it only to read.

I like it too, but I use it exclusively for shitposting.

The video game industry has a lot of companies that are just out of touch. "Gearbox" is still a big recognizable name. I guess we'll see.

How did Gearbox fail but Blizzard didn't?

It's a fad that still attracts millions of people to their phones/PCs everyday, that's what i mean, and usually social media sites like this get an hard hit when something fresher starts to steal their traffic, like how people migrated from MySpace to and then from FB to Twitter (although FB is still doing decently i presume), but what's hurting Twitter right now i'm wondering? Not baiting, i just have no clue

See, i had a feeling it had partially to do with that. Lately there's been a lot of sensationalism about how Twitter MUST control X and Y otherwise they get bad reputation, and certainly working on such issues can't be cost-friendly

One of them had waifus.

One actually has intelligence and business sense. The other doesn't. I'll let you figure out which is which.

Are people really this shallow? If that's the case then the new Quake is going to fail and that depresses me.

Gearbox has no understanding of what anybody wants in games

Blizzard knows what casuals and idiots want, and feeds them

>Battleborn, which they stopped advertising a week before launch
>Then Duke 3D with no advertising, none
>Bulletstorm with an ab-fucking-surd price tag far above what a remaster would normally cost and no advertising except one open statement saying they're putting it out soon
Hmm.

Releasing SC2 into three separate games and having $10 heroes in their F2P MOBA clone and charging full price for a F2P tier game was intelligent?

What went wrong?

SING IT WITH ME

Blizzard is a master at making clean, user-friendly games and has probably the best marketing team in all of gaming. It also has some of the most goodwill because of how fondly people remember SC, D2, WC3, etc.

Also, WoW continues to make money, and Hearthstone and Overwatch are immensely popular. They make good moves, even if they straight up murdered Diablo and StarCraft to do so.

Remember when Pitchford was caught lying about the origin story of his company's name?

Do tell, never heard of that

Blizzard has long time reputation for widely popular and competitive online games. Also it was their first try into FPS games.

Gearbox has reputation for Aliens Colonial Marines, Boringlands and bluntly lying to customers (not once or twice). Also pandering to memes with weird definition of "badass".

But Opposing Force was literally just recoloured half life as well...

#badass

Battleborn is FPS flavored DOTA. Overwatch is DOTA flavored FPS.

The less DOTA, the better, tbqh

Something that Randy said he came up with the name along with Gabe Newell (Valve and Gearbox worked together on Half-Life). Finds out they never met before HL release, as Valve said really soon after interview.

They had to reel it in. No race X, no cool extra guns, and no cool previously unexplored areas of Black Mesa like OpFor showed us.

All they had to do was make OpFor2 and they blew it.

>Blizzard
Designed characters that would appeal to their audience

>Gearbox
Designed characters that would appeal to people on tumblr/twitter who don't even play video games

Also Overwatch is actually a good game.

engadget.com/2009/08/17/whats-in-a-name-gearbox-software/

Spoken like someone who hasn't played them at any length.

LIKES

I had so much fun with Borderlands 2, it's still the only worthwhile looty shooter out there, I was really excited for what comes next from them. Then Colonial Marines, Pre-Sequel and Battleborn happened one after another. Why it went so wrong?

Gearbox has been full of hacks for years. BL2 was a fluke, nothing more.

>thinking you could bank on shitting out a "remaster" of a like 20 year old FPS game to be your big seller

Randy sure is an optimistic guy.

You can't ride on Duke Nukem for 25 years, Randy. That would be like Carmack expecting to make millions just by shitting out a remaster of Quake with MEGATEXTURES that are nothing but brown. 256 UNIQUE MEGASHADES OF BROWN TRULY THE PINNACLE OF QUAKE GRAFIX.

>insult your core fanbase and market to utterly fringe elements
>Everything bombs
>Put your fingers in your ears and shout lalalalala

How the fuck does an idiot like this get a business?

None of Blizzards game can be called sub-par or unpolished. Conversely, Gearbox has Duke Nukem Forever and Aliens Colonial Marines to its name.

Maybe the real guy behind the success of BL2 was a faceless programmer who got fired.

>arstechnica

Pitchfork's retarded logic is
"HOW DO WE GET MORE MONEY? OH I KNOW, LET'S SELL GAMES FOR 60 BUCKS!"

The amount of uneducated normies who will spend this much on a videogame (that's not Overwatch, hehe) is low

it's a fad that doesn't make any money, and is roughly $300 million in the red this year. It's fucked lol

They will pay for their sins against Sega.

AN IDIOT

According to the article, Trump is killing twitter dead

>Duke is being held hostage by a failed magician

I'm still pissed at Pre-Sequel. Anti-gravity and laser/cryo weapons were fun, but it was too damn short, and had too much Australia/Britain in it.

>Imagining if Gearbox gets so desperate that they go back and make the Presequel DLC we never got
>Will finally get some decent raid bosses and see what happened on that space version of Titanic taken over by a plant monster

Randy is That Kid.

>Gearbox will die before releasing the next Brothers in Arms game

The only reason that sold at all on consoles was because it came with the Gears of War 3 demo.

Randy blows more smoke than a chimney.

let this be a lesson to all anti-gamer sjw faggots, the more you shit on the people you earn money off of, that made you who you are, the more you create a market that doesn't want you in it

>tfw Duke Nukem ip gets bought by someone competent
>tfw no more memelands

does it really need to be explained
they're run by commie bastards that want to create a safespace for anti-white racists while banning anyone that isn't a radical leftist

Do you really want a Brothers in Arms from the current gearbox?

I beat Half Life 1 and Opposing Force. You play not Gordon Freeman in Opposing Force who is somehow miraculously stronger than every other soldier, and you never kill any civilians, or even hunt Freeman. It's pretty fucking lame.

Borderlands will only get better without Gearbox's shitty writing.

Seems like Randy has to rent out that castle now for some extra cash.

FREE DUKE 2017

it's like someone took the inner part of his face and just shrunk it in photoshop
everything from his mouth to his eyes just looks so small for how fucking fat and wide his face is

>Blizzard in charge of balancing the game
>Online multiplayer only
>No single player mode
Even out of principal, it's not a good game.

>and you never kill any civilians
That's up to the player, just like it was in HL. You do come across scientists.

Somebody post that "Cribs" video Randy made showing off the Gearbox office and his house.

>You play not Gordon Freeman in Opposing Force who is somehow miraculously stronger than every other soldier
What's so special about Freeman's applied physics degree? If you're going to make a fuss about improbable heroics you should probably start there.

I would have liked to hunt Freeman, though.

>It's pretty fucking lame.
No, it really isn't. A whole new slew of fun weapons, new enemies, diverse level design with fun combat, and new concepts like artificial Xen environments housed inside Black Mesa. Even the final bass was neat. So yeah, go fuck yourself with "it's lame"

:)

>ministry of innovation
I'm sure there's some irony to be found there

Faggy social justice people dislike it because they complain they do nothing about the "harassment" that they get on twitter. Right wingers hate it because several "alt-right" accounts have been banned while far left and anti-white/anti-man accounts are perfectly acceptable in the eyes of Twitter. I really hope it dies.

>what's hurting Twitter right now i'm wondering?

Snapchat. Normies freaking out at the lack of abuse tools. Celebrities realizing that the more time they spend on the more likely they are to say something fucking stupid that will jeopardize their money. SJWs crying about "getting dogpiled" for being fucking stupid in the first place. "Fake News." People criticizing them for being unable to curb ISIS/ISIL accounts. People getting tired of spammers and stolen content. Them accidentally overcharging for ad spending that didn't match the actual consumption. Investors expecting WAY too much without the company being able to make money in a way that would satisfy them.

>Even the final bass was neat.
This is how I know you're Randy.

Doublethink.is real. I think Orwell would have been horrified to see how many people saw 1984 as a guidebook instead of a warning.

>can't even praise Opposing Force anymore

>Borderlands 3 shovelware in 2017
I wonder if that'll save them. If they don't go for that, which studio would you like to develop the next Borderlands and hopefully make it live up to the promise of the hype for Borderlands 1?
