What I don't get is the inconsistent design of the deadly sins. Gluttony's design is obviously gluttonous in nature, falling in line with the sin. Pride however, is very meek and 'fades to grey' so-to-speak. That sin has no pride whatsoever. Envy is also clearly very complacent.

The character designs just clash. Why? Is this something they were kinda torn on in the design philosophy and hopped stances half way through or what?

Envy could do with a redesign, though. Because he's a bitch and a half to fight currently, especially if you have low damage.

It's not that they don't make sense, it's that they clash and make for an inconsistent set of sins aesthetically. One sin falls in line with the sin it represents, another sin is on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Greed attacks you in shops and secret rooms, particularly if you have a lot of money. When he hits you, you drop money.

Sloth moves slowly and is decaying.

Pride is a twist on the phrase "bursting with pride", so it creates crazy waves when it screams.

Envy is a play on the phrase "beside themselves with envy", hence the splitting mechanic.

The reasoning for Envy is very loose.

But Pride is ez. Think about it. Wrath can kill himself with his own bombs. It's an instantkill if any bomb hits him. Meanwhile, Pride is immune to explosive damage, and he shoots bombs out like Wrath. He's so full of himself that he can't harm himself, meanwhile Wrath kills himself (and self-harm is one of the three layers of Wrath in the Divine Comedy, particularly Inferno and Paradiso).
