People don't seem to understand that gold elims and damage don't mean too much if you're not helping the team create openings they can exploit to play the objective. It helps certainly, just it's a flimsy fucking shield.

The issue with meta picks and such is that some people are better with some characters than others, to the point that becomes more important than anything. Like, between Soldier and McCree, a player might be way way better as McCree than Soldier, so him playing as McCree is better for your team, but because Soldier is techincally the better character everyone whines for the player to switch to Soldier and he ultimately preforms worse.

Sure you can argue that player just needs to get good with the 6 meta choice characters in order to play comp but this is exactly why skill ranks exist to begin with.

It actually sucks because I really prefer ranked mode but having to listen to people throw constant 24/7 bitch fits if I play anything but one of the top 10 characters just makes it not worth it. I see more games lost because someone throws a bitchfit over a certain pick, than the actual pick costs the match.

Why do people even get so fucking mad? It puts you with people of your own skill. If someone got to their ranking playing torbjorn or bastion and you're on their team they are just as good as you.

The absolute biggest problem with Overwatch's Ranked is that so many people are convinced that they're the next eSports wunderchild, destined for greatness if there weren't these retards on their team. Do they really think "I am improving how these people behave by throwing this game and being a smug cunt about it" ?

Then again, competitive/ranked modes are generally where fun goes to die a slow, drawn out death, and Torb isn't exactly a mandatory pick. But people parroting the latest meta team comp and then shitting their pants while throwing a game when people DON'T try to mimic the pros every play doesn't make anyone go 'wow, I'm sure glad I'm even bothering with ranked.' For a mode all about team participation. people sure are eager to stab holes in the boat the moment some water splashes in.

personal beliefs aside that is I can't believe people get so invested in competitive "gaming" it's all such a joke. Games become instantly unfun as soon as they get competitive with ranks and whatnot, and gets infested with useless shits whose only validation comes from a stupid and pointless arbitrary rank that has little to do with actual skill so any value the game offers is instantly contingent on said "rank" it's human nature to get nasty when competitive elements are introduced, more so when you're in a team setting with (depending on circumstances) anonymous team members. It's always gonna get icky, only if you mute everybody and minimize contact between players will you have a non "toxic" (I hate that term) environment. At that point you might as well sterilize the whole gaming experience. not to say some people thrive/love that kind of environment.

I needed ONE more game for Grandmaster and we had a Torb main on our team. NOONE complained about his pick and we played around it by picking smart and communicating how to push with his turret.
We raped them on offense and won out the defense
Torb had all the golds
and then I stopped playing this awful game and went back to dota

Generallybthrre is only one character good enough to semi-carry a team. In the oast it has been Genji, Zarya, Zen, and McRee. Now maybe Ana and 76, but you can't pull a complete dominance like you can in a game like Quake, Unreal, or even Counterstrike
