Just about to start oblivion. I'm thinking maybe in the style of a thief. Maybe with a bow, or dagger, or maybe both? Very new to this game, any tips and tricks?

Go sleep in the inn on a ship in Waterfront district. Trust me. Never actually played a full sneak character in Oblivion so I can't help you with that, but I can tell you that both Dark Brotherhood and Thieves' Guild quest lines are great.
a thief who uses some alteration and non destruction magic is probably the most fun you can have on your first play through because it helps a lot with the factions, mainly DB and TG.
the most fun i ever personally had was running as a battle mage because in Oblivion you can cast spells pretty much whenever you want so it pretty much has the best game play in the series despite being a pretty floaty. you'll want to be looking for quests because the quests are great and actually feel like quests. if you hit level 20 and things get too hard you can adjust the slider slightly to balance it a little better, just dont listen to the people who say dont level up because you need to hit level 20 for all the fun enemies to start showing up. also just do all of the factions, i dont remember the mage one that well but all of the others are top notch
also i guess you dont need to be a thief with magic i just think it makes it more fun
Can you tell me s bit more about alteration and non destruction magic. Why is it good for a thief?
you will probably want to go both bow and blade, and blade includes all classes of blades in one category so you have options
Not him, but Alteration lets you unlock doors/chests with magic. It's kind of redundant if you plan on lockpicking. A more useful school of magic for a thief is Illusion, for the invisibility/chameleon spells.
On second thought, I think Alteration lets you muffle footsteps, but that's also a perk you can get by leveling up light armor or sneak, I can't remember.
On third thought, Illusion also has spells that let you charm merchants before you sell to them, getting better prices.
Alchemy is good for making poisons if you're going to use a bow.
well if youre going to be a thief your probably going to have light Armour and youl be a little more fragile, the main thing is that alteration can let you cast shield spells to give you more armour, also i think alteration includes sound muffling, door unlocking, and straight up invisibility, also carry weight adjustment so you can steal a tonne of shit, which are all pretty useful to a thief, but in no way necessary of course. for me it just spices things up
I am planning to do sneak and lock picking, so out of those would you then recommend alchemy as the top choice? Is it complicated. I'm not looking to calculate out a super character just have a nice comfy run while avoiding the levelling problem
Yeah. Aside from basic combat skills like Light Armor, Blade, Marksman, or whatever, I would recommend Sneak, Lockpicking, Alchemy for poisons, Illusion for invisibility/charm.
Mercantile might seem useful but you're going to be raising it every time you sell stuff, and it can cause you to over-level if you pick it as a tag skill.
First of all, you need to choose a birth sign that will greatly benefit your play style. For a thief character, you'll either want the Shadow (Emergency invisibility ) the Thief (Obvious) The Tower (Opening chests in emergencies) or the Serpent (Emergency damage.)
Play Skyrim or Morrowind instead. Oblivion is the worst of both games combined.
The biggest thing you need to know about Oblivion is that you'll never feel powerful. No matter how much you level up the enemies will always feel stronger on the default difficulty.
>how to spot a pleb tier autist
oblivion has better gameplay and quests than both
>he actively wants the game to get easier
>he thinks progression should make you OP and not just give you more tools to deal with more powerful enemies
look at this retard, look at him and laugh
>stealth archer
what a twist
Signs that give you spells are worthless. Best signs for a thief are The Thief (obviously) or The Steed.
Thief is generally the best because it gives you the most bonus points of all the signs, including +10 luck which is the shittiest stat to raise.
Unless you abuse the levelling system. But you lose a lot of content that way.
Not him, but not really. I agree on quests, but I can't entirely agree on gameplay. It's still very good though, and hey, if OP wants to play Oblivion let him play Oblivion.
Canon playthrough.
In Oblivion everyone just starts wearing daedric armor eventually and it's retarded. Morrowind and Skyrim let you actually be powerful.
Shadow is actually pretty useful, especially on lower levels, but other than that I agree on spell signs.
Fucking kill yourself and take that shit with you.
Maybe if it was Chameleon, but Invisibility is really of limited use. Plus one of the Jode Stones gives you the same spell but it lasts twice as long and doesn't take up a slot you can get stat boosts in.

how can anyone hate this game? i cant wrap my head around it. i really wish it had the journal and such features from morrowind but that doesn't excuse how good it is in its own right

TES games have amazing soundtracks.
Already have, want something new (old)
i know its common knowledge at this point but just in case, everyone who appreciates the ost can probably appreciate the fun fact where soule had a near death experience and spent months(?) in a coma afterwards and immediately wrote this ost immediately after waking up, citing his experiences as the major inspiration
Op here. Just about to leave the sewer. Picking my birth sign now. Probably gonna go with thief, especially if there are spells and stones that might give the invisibility that shadow would anyway. Either way I have a save so I can go back if I change my mind and switch. And tips just for fun once I get out of sewer. Where to go' what to do, thief stuff etc? Much appreciated
joining the thieves/fighters guild or the arena would be a good place to start, i almost always swim across to the ruins and kill the bandits and read the book across fromt he sewer exit
Sweet. Any good equipment/weapons that you can pick up early without too much trouble that can help me on my way?
The fuck is with everything being leveled?
>beat the arena and get some bitchin' armor
>armor rating of 14
The nords were fucking wrong.
Literally just exited the sewers! Here we go!
remember to talk to people a lot. obviously you will get a lot of generic dialogue but you can pick up quests that way
!!!!
go kill those faggots down by the ruins.
DO NOT mention
the Kvatch mages guild
head southwest and speak with the lord of leyawiin about some banditos, then fast track it through the mage's guild. Seems foolish for a theif but trust.
Oblivion is one of those games where you can pretty much go anywhere you want and it will turn up alright and you will always have stuff to do. Messing around in the Imperial City might be a good idea for a start. Also joining the guilds you're interested in. If you don't really like the lockpicking minigame there is an artefact far to the south east that might help you with that. You can also simply start doing the main quest and go with the flow.
Go to the ruins. Make sure to grab as many of the glowing stones as you can. Trust me, they will be very useful later down the line.
If not, at least you can sell the valara stone for a good price.
It gets insane after level 20
Don't feel guilty about console commanding "killall" if the game is going to be cheap to you too.
Think of it like an innate special ability like Dio's time stop. Speaking of which, why is there no mod that plays the Za Warudo sound effect whenever opening the console command?
grab a fuckton of money at those ruins right out of the sewers, you can get a varla stone that sells for 1000 gold and the welkynd stones sell for 50 each
It's not about the game being easier, it's just rewarding when you get to endgame to feel like a badass
Stealth archer is definitely the most enjoyable build to play.
Bow and Stealth, some kind of close combat skill, plus light armor and your choice of magic for added flavor.
That being said if you aren't on PC to download Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul don't even bother booting the game up. Its a fucking joke without it, and even with that installed its still the worst Elder Scrolls.
With full DLC, Oscuro's, Archaeologist's, the better Unique Landscapes, Elsweyr Anequina (adds a good chunk of desert in the south center of the map), Kvatch Rebuilt and Darnified UI does it begin to become a tolerable game. That's the bare minimum I can recall from playing 6 years ago to make the game passable, and we aren't even getting into any mods to modernize the graphics.
Don't listen to these fuckwits claiming it as the greatest game of all time because they played it back before their balls had even dropped. Listen to your buddy user, who says get some fucking mods.
Trying to but the zombies are giving me a bit of trouble. The bandits are feeling the wrath of my bow to their forehead though
It's a poor lazy way to balance difficulty. It should remain difficult but for different reasons.
install oblivion character overhaul and oscuro's oblivion overhaul.
>Morrowind, which was an earlier game in the Skyrim series
What they're wearing in Skyrim doesn't matter because their health and damage still scales.
>post level 20
>all bandits have glass
>all marauders have daedric
>only other enemies are Xivlai, Ogres, Minotaurs, and Liches
The only person we're laughing at is you user, for defending the retardation that is Oblivion leveling.
Zombies are easy to kill; just keep hitting them. You should have a fire spell, so use it.
Is it just me, or do the vanilla zombies have an
insane amount of health to anyone else?
I never felt like that, though it's been some time since I last played.
When you're a high level because of level scaling you nothing but dread zombies which are the strongest ones and have a lot of health
Vilvarian ruins cleared! Where to next!? I'm thinking I'm heading to the city
Find a dark elf waifu and titfuck her.
Go to market. Sell the stones. Use money to buy better equipment.
This. There is also quite a few quests in the city you can take care of.
Do the stones have no other use than selling them?
So i have both Oblivion and Skyrim on my xbone 360, the question is which should i play and what should i play as?
play oblivion as a red headed dunmer slut destruction mage
play skyrim as a breton or nord light armor/no armor two handed sword rogue
ok ty
