>Mamma Fucka

What did he mean by this?

*BING BING* WAHOOOOOOO

Because it's fun? I don't understand the question.

gay luigi

The real question is why is Mario so stoic and serious about it all.
Can't he have some fun?

Melee happened. Nintendo tried to fix it by releasing much better games, like Smash 4, but unfortunately autism prefers frame-timing and bug abuse above quality games. I laugh every time I see shit, when people pose the question "Would you buy a Melee remake if it rebalanced the cast by making the weak characters slightly better and the overpowered characters slightly less amazing?", the answer is always "no, it wouldn't be melee anymore". They don't want game balance or quality, they want the autism fueled addiction they already have to grow bigger.

why did they stop doing the denim texture in smash 4? I thought it looked neat.

The game needed to run on 3DS.

They also decided to go for a more simple cartoony style, instead of the dull ugly brawl style. Personally, I'm all for that.

>Create a lighthearted series with iconic characters that was never meant to be serious
>Unintentionally make the game really good to watch and play seriously
>People start playing it seriously

What's the problem OP?

The dark and gritty Twilight Princess artstyle didn't really suit all the characters so they went to a brighter direction.

being autistic is not fun. trust me

I never liked Mario in Smash. Every other character seems to keep their core traits but Mario just becomes an edgelord.

>People turn it into one of the most unhygienic and autistic things of all time.

you answered your own question
autism can turn anything into a poisonous swamp that makes you feel ashamed for ever liking it

youtube.com/watch?v=5snWiPMPR8o
>edgy

ive never met someone who plays melee competitively that isnt a sperglord. theres just something about that particular game that just spews autism

But melee had denims first

The Melee crowd doesn't speak for all of us. A majority of us have moved onto the newer games and don't spread the toxicity that meleefags do everywhere.

But why do you hate competition?
You can play casually if you want, you know

>dull ugly brawl style
Nigger if they had Smash 4 quality with those textures, shit would have been dope.
Melee's colors + Brawl's textures + Smash 4 aestheticd + 64's charm = Best Smash look.

This, really. Competitive play is simply a lot more fun.

Melee isn't part of the smash series anymore. It has become so big that it's now its own thing

>people are born into a life with no intrinsic meaning
>they take it seriously

Wtfh?

but HOW did it start into this ultra competitive circle jerk? what caused it? i liked the game when i first got it, but the last thing on my mind was taking it seriously/

So you never played competitively with your friends? Ever? No one said "I am the best in our group!"? I dont believe this. Are you a girl? Is there no competitive drive in you?

like any competitive scene
bunch of dorks in their room

If you want to know how melee became a circlejerk, just watch this 4 hour[spoiler/] documentary
youtube.com/watch?v=jX9hbbA-WP4

i was far and away the best player in the group and it was painfully obvious. even so we still played with items on and the crazy stages only. smash bros was never a game i wanted to play seriously.

There's competitive drive, and then there's wishing for ISIS to attack the CEO tournament venue, just because they dared show coverage of a game other than the game (in the same series, mind you) you liked best.

I've seen that happen. Chances are, this isn't representative of the scene as a whole, but still, it's a bit much.

Something went wrong in the happy-go-lucky world of nintendo, that's what.

This... is actuallh tight.
Quickly, someone emails Sakurai

That's because it was the somewhat gritty spaceworld Zelda artstyle.
For some reason the art direction of Smash Bros follows Zelda.

>For some reason the art direction of Smash Bros follows Zelda.
Shit, that means we're going to get Super Smash Bros Cel next Smash. The only characters that would look in character is BoTW and Toon Link.

Playing competitively with open-minded peers is fine.
If you meant the online aggression and shunning of other titles, then yes. Not touching online play or local shops until the verbally smirking autists are permanently removed, which is never.

>64's charm
Explain

Skeletons when electrocuted.

This. Shit like that I wish was kept later in the series, and I didn't even play 64. But the stuff I've seen from the game, man does the game have its charm here and there I can appreciate.

I miss the weird tennis ball court noises for when anything got hit in Smash 64.

What were you playing the Japanese version?

I mean in future Smash installments.

actual autism of no attempt to fix =/ internet autism.

In future installments you miss the weird tennis ball court noises for when anything got hit in the Japanese version of Smash 64?

Are you having a stroke?

Please do not mistake the melee community with the smash community.

...

I'm repeating your thoughts back to you for you to confirm they make sense in your mind.

Apparently they don't to you either.

this

wat. You brought up the Jap version, not me.

The Japanese version has the tennis ball court sounds, so you are the one who brought it up.

All of the Smash 64 SFX was fucking godlike and I want it back.

I think you have your versions mixed up. The Jap version has more realistic sounds.

>64 has doll theme
>Melee has figure theme
>Brawl is realism all of a sudden
>Sm4sh is dumbed down Brawl art for 3DS

Melee bugs happened and people thinking they are core mechanics.

It has the tennis ball court sounds.

i loved how the crowd went fucking crazy for just about everything. i literally just got goosebumps thinking about it as i typed it

youtube.com/watch?v=L6vSKwukPCs

Why can't nutendo make another melee? that game was perfect

Yup that's the one.

Ioved how pissed off Mario was in all the Tr4sh character trailers. No fucking idea why Sakurai makes him look like that.

youtube.com/watch?v=uEA9QSM1BUU

But the Jap sound effects sound like normal fighting sound effects.

>tfw used to unironically love playing No Items, Fox Only, Final Destination in Brawl
>no autism, no frame timing, no bug abuse, no tourneys, just having fun playing fast as fuck with friends who were an even match
>other friend who plays vidya thinks we're faggots for "taking this party game seriously"

It was fun, god damn it.

Which are closer to the thwap sound a tennis racket makes when hitting a ball around the court than the sharp, pinging, ringing strikes of the American version.

You seem to have autism, meleefan perhaps?

What bizzaro universe are you from?

>le autism
>le melee

kys reddit

The one described in this video where the Japanese and American versions of Super Smash Brothers for the Nintendo 64 has the entailed sound effect differences

You mean literally every competitive video game ever?

Melee and Smash 4 are just another of the bunch, I don't see how competitive Smash is any diferent than competitive Street Fighter. It's like people forget that fighting games were basically party games on the arcade days and were never supposed to be seriously, at least not anymore than any other game.

semi-related, i bought this shit on the steam sale and to finally make use of my mayflash

This game feels like the "correct answer" to making Melee easier or more user friendly

>6 frame input buffer, 3 to buffer a dash out of a move
>no L-cancelling, innately low aerial landing lag
>single, directional air dodge, but no hopeless state afterward
>DI more intuitive
>no stopping animation out of a run so can attack immediately

i thinks its ultimately a little worse but how it goes about simplifying the gameplay is better than Sakurais way of taking a shit all over the physics and punishing taking initiative

Mario is the default main character of the series and Nintendo itself. a serious Mario sets the tone for a serious game

Underated post

The US version sounds like tennis balls smacking a court. Are you high as a kite?

Im glad you people are neets and have no say.

>The US version sounds like tennis balls smacking a court.

By all means find some video clips of tennis balls hitting a court that sounds anything like the metallic Smash 64 sound effects.

I feel combos are too easy, there's no point in choosing a character like Etalus or Zetterburn when Wrastor, Maypul or Absa can 0 to death you easily without much effort.

Also I don't like that there's no ledges, it makes recovering very straight foward. Nonetheless I agree that's it's a fun game, just a bit too casual imo.

same guy, and agree in a way how easy the combos are. melee also has more action states (shielding, ledges, grabs) to open up more options and more scenarios of "chase" like tech chasing.

that guy and Sakurai both set out to make Melee simpler, but i think the former did a better job of it in most regards.

You instigated the argument, so you find some video clips of people fighting that sounds anything like the metallic Smash 64 sound effects first.

>You instigated the argument

No, you made the claim that the American sound effects for Smash 64 sound like tennis balls hitting a court, now by all means substantiate your claim. I in turn never made the claim that the American sound effects for Smash 64 sound like people actually fighting.

youtube.com/watch?v=YL2fr6RhGpk&t=53s
lazy faggot.

>People turn it into one of the most unhygienic and autistic things of all time.

Implying Mario wasn't always autistic

You're arguing the Jap sound effects sound like tennis court noises, when the opposite is true. Also thanks for proving my point and fuck you for proving OPs point, you autismo.

>You're arguing the Jap sound effects sound like tennis court noises

Yes, they do, see Now, substantiate your claim that the American games' sound effects sound even remotely similar to tennis. I've been waiting.

If your a total autist

>Smash 64's announcer

If you don't suck at videogames, that is.

>Yes, they do, see
...Are you deaf? Did you even watch the video?

Not an argument.

I'm guessing you're not going to bother providing evidence for your claim.

Smash 4's "aesthetic" is the complete opposite of brawl's textures

I think you're either deaf or mentally ill. The THWAP and PWONG noises in the video are just like the American sound effects.

Either that, or this is just an elaborate ruse.

I still think Melee only ever became as big as it did because the only other fighting game available on the GC was Soul Calibur 2 and since then the only other fighting game on a Nintendo platform I can think of is Tekken Tag 2 in 2012.

So you're not going to.

Alright well, I accept your concession.

he might have the versions mixed up

you have the american and gook versions mixed up friend

Tsunoko vs Capcom was on the Wii.

Why do people get so butthurt about playing smash competitively? Nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to learn wavedashing or bidou. Let the tourneyfags be tourneyfags, and casualfags be casualfags.
That being said, even before I learned about the competitive scene, I preferred melee way more than brawl. Roll spamming due to no dash animations and taking forever to land from a jump was just no fun. Melee's physics just make the characters way more enjoyable to control IMO. Sm4sh is definitely better than brawl, but I still enjoy it less than melee for the same reasons (slower, floatier characters).

If people can argue about the fucking sound effects, I'm sure anything goes

you have the american and gook versions mixed up friend

Best post in the /thread

Melee.

nigga stop. im sorry that you think rubber testicles smacking against each other sounds normal and i sympathize with your abusive childhood that led to such a conclusion but stop.
