I remember really liking the first one, but the change in gameplay turned me away from the second one
Haven't played the series in ages though
1 is my favourite game of all time
2 is good
3 is good too
1>3>2
The first game looks really fun, dunno about the others. THE KAAKEEZ
Pretty much this. Although I'd put 2 and 3 as equal
i didnt like the 1st one that much desu. i just played it because i got all 3 of them for cheap. really enjoyed 2 and my ps2 started crapping out on me by the time i started 3 so i barely got far. really loved what little i played of 3 though
1 is great. 2 and 3 are decent, but ND fell for the gta meme. They all have ridiculously bullshit difficulty spikes
I think porn makers vastly underuse the girls in the series. It's a goldmine just waiting to be tapped.
Naughty dog were real pricks when they completely ignored that it was Jak and Daxter's birthday on PSX, they literally mentioned every single other games they created except Jak and Daxter, on it's fucking birthday. Oh and i got to mention UC4 dlc "The lost *Legacy*"
Crash gets by because of nostalgia. Naughty Dog want to be "serious now" so they don't want to acknowledge that period where they had games that could be both silly and serious.
Still haven't played the first one but the others are among my favorite games of all time.
2 is wonderful, even if the difficulty is all over the place.
3 is my favorite, but sadly they went the opposite direction and it's too easy.
the first game was a masterpiece
but the series died after it turned into an edgelord gta clone
may old naughty dog rest in peace
masterpiece is a little bit of a stretch
it doesn't hold up that well anymore due to simple level design and simple gameplay.
waow that's a big snake
it holds up very well because of the tight controls and amazing world building
thats all a good 3d platformer needs
Ratchet > Jak > Ape Escape > Sly
Can we agree?
Loved Precursor Legacy, and have 100%'d it several times. Really could not get into Jak 2 despite trying multiple times over the years.
the webm i made for this game got lost i got to play the game over again
Loved 1 and the tonal shift in 2 made me not even bother playing after like 2 hours
would you care to share
...
Exactly. The details hidden in the levels make them more than just the beach level, the snow level, etc. It's Sentinal Beach. It's Snow Mountain. The way everything was connected made it feel like a real world. Sometimes I would sit at the dock in Boggy Swamp and look off into the ocean, wondering what lie beyond.
Ah, memories. Soundtrack was dope, too.
>Racing across the rickety metal pathways through the Lava Tube
>Hopping gaps left and right
>Switching from track to another
>That moment when you realize you can fly the same track in reverse for a whole new experience.
i dont have them any more they got deleted i need to go thew the game again on pcsx2
great post
...
Read about the explorability from the first game in a magazine, "if you can see it you can go there". rented it from Blockbuster while in my 20s living at my aunts house.
Asked me why I was a grown up playing a childrens game. Shrug. Technology, no load times, exploring, shrug. Cool game. Very cool game.
Also, I use to often post this image hoping for a modern graphics version of the game for newer Playstation consoles.
Crash gets by because they're good.
>10 years old playing this
>climb to top of Forbidden Forest after beating game
>look out and you can see the whole map
>absolutely gorgeous view
Still brings a tear to my eye in nostalgia whenever I play it.
Eat shit.
Sly > Jak > Ape Escape > Ratchet
Best Jack grl incoming
I didn't mean crash was bad. I just meant ND talk about it for nostalgia brownie points and ignore jak.
You're right. Once she becomes an ottsel.
Not that great lul
Shit taste and one of Sup Forumss most retarded of opinions. Jak 1 is easy as shit and can be beat in 4 hours with 0 deaths. Jak 2 improves on the gameplay 100 fold with actual difficulty. And for the casuals and babies who say its too hard please never pick up a souls or mh game
They're pretty good, I prefer 2 and 3 over 1, but the first still holds a spot in my heart as the first PS2 game I got.
Ratchet>Jak II and 3>Ape Escape>Sly>Jak 1
Put your dick back in your pants. Nobody wants to see that.
Not an argument!
...
Fuck the Zoomer controls in Jak and Daxter
Also fuck everything about the city in Jak II.
>Jak 2 improves on the gameplay 100 fold with actual difficulty.
A shit checkpoint system, the blaster mod being the only gun that matters most of the game and frustrating missions does not equate to difficulty dumbass.
ND doesn't really care about either, but they claim the small team for Crash was a much better work environment than the larger one for Jak.
...
I like all three of them much less than you do, but this is the correct ranking. Jak 2 is an absolute clusterfuck and anyone who praises it as the best game in the series is blinded by nostalgia.
Ratchet 1 & 3 > Ape Escape > Sly 1 > Jak 1 > Sly 2 & 3 > Ratchet 2 > Jak 2 & 3
...
I'M GOING TO kill PRAXIS!
I think they are gr8, and Lost Frontier needs to be remade.
2>3>1
>tfw Gol and Maia never came back
Ty > Jak > Everything
All the running text in Jak X combined forms this:
Jak 2 was the best in the series, all you little faggots who think the scenery and mood change ruined it are retarded.
Good. We already had the whole Erol bullshit.
>Gets fucking deconstructed in dark eco
>Somehow there are pieces of him to make a cyborg from
I love the aesthetic and wish they'd do more games, or a reboot, or something. It's one of those games that really fires up your imagination but then doesn't really follow through very strongly. A Jak & Dax with modern ND production values would be GOAT.
>Anyone who doesn't agree with me is a fagggg
ow the edge
No, but seriously, the change in mood isn't the problem. The problem is that in trying to be more like GTA the core game design suffered.
And it also corrupts all the saves on your memory card. Great game.
>not owning the greatest hits rerelease
Look at that loser.
I love them all, but personally like the 2nd and 3rd more than the 1st. 2=3>1. I played them when I was a teen so that may have something to do with it.
>ywn revive them with light eco
feels bad man, we could have gotten human daxter
the random ruins everywhere, no explanation for them. Just awe and mysterty. I'd spend hours climbing around trying to get over invisible walls just exploring. Fuck that tower with the cannon in the first area, looking at the beach. wow
Fuckin ahhhhhhh, nostalgia fuck you
First game has a great charm. Second game is questionable and unbalanced with its difficulty, but pushes you enough to play it through the end. Third game is more of a chore, but less difficult.
I mean it worked at the time. They were aiming for edgy young teenagers and it worked.
jak 1 was okay, jak 2 was pretentious edgy meme autistic garbage gta clone with artificial difficulty
The scale of TPL and its lack of loading combined with its believable and richly textured world absolutely blew my mind as a 10yr old. Nothing I'd played beforehand came even close to how massive and epic it all felt
This early trailer (my first exposure to the game) is always such a rush of nostalgia; youtube.com
Replayed all 3 over winter break. 1st one sucks, 2nd one is decent, 3rd one is pretty good.
They all have fantastically beautiful visuals, awful camera, and absolutely atrocious checkpoints.
That was more or less what I was trying to say.
Most of the people who were on during crash and jak have left. The only reason they keep bringing crash up is because nostalgia sells. Otherwise modern ND would rather be know for this "mature" stuff.
Did they fix the PS Vita versions already?
>Could have been a cool returning feature from the first game
>Even had a hint that they could have survived
>Nope
>Just dead
It's a real shame, since their designs are pretty neat.
>yfw you found out the top of Maia's ass crack is visible
>1st one sucks, 2nd one is decent
What ?
The first one isn't GOTY especially when you look at it now, but it was far from bad. It was simplistic at worst, everything was at least servicable. It was a decent game.
Jak 2 jumped the shark so many times I have lost count, both gameplay and plot wise.
>2001 : "kay we think people are bored of crash so let's make another mascot platforming video game"
>2003 : "we gta and tony hawk now"
>open city that nobody liked
>none of the vehicles in that city handle even remotely well
>meaningless challenges scattered in the city
>4 weapons, only 2 of them are useful and of these two, only one remains useful throughout the game, the other is situational as fuck
>when the hell did anybody need to activate Dark Jak ?
>jak 1's missions were "go from point A to point B". jak 2's missions were this, plus everything nobody likes from escort missions to "grab fourteen of these things in your extra fragile vehicle while the cops are shooting at you from every angle" missions
>jak 1's environments were colourful, jak 2 has this washed up, fugly look
>jak in jak 1 was silent, jak in 2's dialogue is written by a 11 year old MCR fan
>daxter was already obnoxious in 1, now he chases after every fucking skirt in town and is extremely vocal about it
The only thing I'll give to Jak 2 over 1 was that when it wasn't those god awful vehicle missions or missions in the city, its difficulty was a welcome sight after the near-borefest of 1.
They also modeled Keira's underwear. If you zoom in you can see it sticking above her pants a bit.
nope
Loved the original and enjoyed the sequels, but I really wish they kept to the style of the first game.
Apparently the story of how the 2nd game is that the devs let a bunch of 12 year olds test Jak 2 back in the day and said they didn't like and and it should bet like GTA, since GTA was super popular then.
...
>barren desert
>recycled city from the 2nd game
>shitty vehicles that skid around like theyve been drenched in oil
>awful final boss
jak 3 is by far the worst
Maia best jak-fu
>Wonder where I got my fetish for cold, dominating women
>Stumble across this
How!? She's in less than three cutscenes and one boss fight! Could a single character have THAT much of an effect?
>BREAKING NEWS : Focus testing in video game development ruins games, more at 11
...
You'd be surprised. I saw an image of pic related and ONLY this image in a magazine, and she never left my mind.
I loved fighting Metal Heads and Death Bots alongside the Freedom League (who were vastly underutilized), but the ending truly raped the series.
Considering that the SA-X in metroid fusion was literally the cause of me having a gigantic boner for femdom and actual monster women (not your weak anime bullshit), yes.
She doesn't even talk.
>I loved fighting Metal Heads and Death Bots alongside the Freedom League
I spent hours doing this
The true question is: what did Sup Forums think of the reveal of the Precursors?
i miss the old brain
If you listen to the audio commentary on the FMVs you learn that ND did it only because they felt a non-ironic unveiling would be too tame and by-the-book
they all suck and have aged poorly
I loved replaying any mission that gave me Freedom League allies. The Krimzon Guard had a brilliant design, so to get them as repainted allies was awesome. It made you feel like you weren't the only one putting your was on the line, unlike the other two games. Kinda like the Galactic Rangers in the third Ratchet game.
One problem, though
>Jak auto targets the Freedom League
Why? What an asshole
Why reveal them at all? Sometimes the mystery is better.
Case in point: midichlorians
I think ND views the Jak world as a big joke, like a holdout from the days of generic platforming collectathons. But it isn't. The world of Jak is special. It deserves better.
Ratchet & Clank is infinitely better
I think their waning interest is half the reason they made the Precursors a joke
Also I just watched all the Lost Frontier FMVs and holy fuck am I glad I didn't play more than 30mins of it. Awful awful story, characters act out of character (Jak is too passive, Daxter cheats), shit designs etc
Your mortal mind cannot comprehend infinity.
It's good, although Jak 1 was pretty cool, Jak 2 improved the entire series tenfold.
>B-BUT THAT'S JUST A GTA CLONE
And so was Jak 1 with Super Mario 64, how come that get's a free pass? Jak and Daxtar was basically Naughty Dog's response to Super Mario 64.
They saw Super Mario 64, looked at Crash Bandicoot and said "fuck, we've got some catching up to do".
It's right here at 5:00 youtube.com
>UHH, UMM... I'M GONNA KILL PRAXIS XD
Yeah the game got edgy and there's literally nothing wrong with that.
The kids who played Crash Bandicoot have grown up and matured, what was appealing back then might not be appealing when you've grown up.
Kids care about things being "cool", the first Jak was just another kiddy fun platformer like their previous series, if the next 3 games were just the same campy shit people would lose interest.
Sorry nostalgia babies but collectathons is a primitive genre, Jak 2 and 3 belong in a genre that is still alive today, making 2 and 3 age waaay better than 1.
Jak 1 fags go completely off nostalgia, anyone who has gotten the HD collection and played through the games recently would know 2 and 3 are simply better.
Sorry faggots but disregarding anything with a little edge in it isn't always going to make you look cool.
The original Ape Escape is a perfect game and one of the best platformers ever made.
>The kids who played Crash Bandicoot have grown up and matured, what was appealing back then might not be appealing when you've grown up
I think that's the core thing people forget. I can see how if you're only playing the games now it seems like a bit of a jump, but back then I was 11 or so and seeing Jak take on a darker edge, a gravitas and more fleshed out characters was EXACTLY attuned to my pre-teen sensibilites. I was at that exact sweet spot in their audience that was raised on the Crash games but looking for the next logical step
>Jak, you gotta listen, I've been exposed to dark e-
>There's no time, Daxter!
.... and then gameplay resumes. Y'know, gameplay that you can take at your own pace because there's no urgent rush. And yet Daxter never brings it up at any of these idle points?
Horrible. You can critique the story of the other games for being absurd or whatever, but this is just built off unlogic.
MMMMMMM
>And so was Jak 1 with Super Mario 64, how come that get's a free pass?
Because it worked in Jak 1, although they brought absolutely nothing new from the table. Most thought-provoking puzzle in the game is a "jump on the button" puzzle, if you can even call them that.
Jak 2's "borrowed" elements actively work against the player's fun because not only the city is confusing as shit to drive through, but the vehicles' controls were ass and the missions where driving a vehicle was mandatory were commonplace. And then there's the krimzon guard fucking up everything.
>Kids care about things being "cool", the first Jak was just another kiddy fun platformer like their previous series, if the next 3 games were just the same campy shit people would lose interest.
Except that many other series retained the same tone throughout their installments and their sales didn't plummet. People don't stay 8 forever but neither do the 6 years old.
>Jak 1 fags go completely off nostalgia, anyone who has gotten the HD collection and played through the games recently would know 2 and 3 are simply better.
Bought the collection for christmas. I have Jak 1's platinum. I have nearly finished Jak 2 and I won't ever, ever play it again because only the actual platforming was fine and fun. You know, the thing that was decent in Jak 1 and was the main focus of the game.
>Sorry faggots but disregarding anything with a little edge in it isn't always going to make you look cool.
