What are some good games to play with the steam controller?

Bump

I know at least one of you motherfuckers has a controller

I do. They're shit.

I do, but I don't use it much it's really awkward.

Dota 2.

Dark Souls, that's about it.

what happened to
>muh haptic feedback

The best by far is to throw it away and use an xbox controller

I have a steam controller. Its literally worse for everything, even after I got used to it. I have played a couple of the Souls games with it and part of Dragons Dogma, as well as Dragonball Xenoverse 2. Probably other stuff, I don't remember. I literally only use it at all because I paid for it and its easier than starting up my 3rd party program to get my Dualshock 4 to work with my PC.

However, I just bought FFX and X2 remastered on steam and I literally can't use my steam controller with it, because if I save my game at a save point there is no way for me to back out of the save point while using the steam controller, even if I use my keyboard.

Don't get it.

I remember steambicils trying to convince everyone how it was actually better than a mouse and a keyboard.

Well, it is better than a keyboard and mouse if you're playing a game you want a controller for. Its not better than a keyboard and mouse for games you want a keyboard and mouse for. The only exception I can think of to this is Xcom. Which I used KBnM for before, but I could see it being comfy with the old steam controller.

Most things that you might want to play with a controller. You won't want to play CS or DOTA, but for me at least Hitman on it is better because you've got the comfiness of the controller but close enough to the pin-point accuracy of a mouse for sniping.

Yep. I wanted to like it. I really did, but its just a cheap ass peace of trash. Literally zero redeeming qualities. I actually ended up giving mine away for free to some random person on Sup Forums that posted their address in a thread about it.

Actually I take that back. My favorite thing about it was the usb adapter thing that came with it. It was nice and heavy and sat nicely on my desk ready for me to plug in various actually fun usb things.

Xbox 360 or dualshock is still the best for the steam gamin if you aren't mouse and keyboarding it up.

emulators

Dirt Rally

Manual / Semi-auto, use paddle shifters to switch gears. If you want to, you can use gyro for turning

i have one but i don't use it because there is no "just act like a normal fucking controller" mode, and i don't feel like setting up shortcuts for every fucking game through steam

>Well, it is better than a keyboard and mouse if you're playing a game you want a controller for. Its not better than a keyboard and mouse for games you want a keyboard and mouse for.
They were trying to convince people of the latter

This has nothing to do with the thread but it really isn't worth making my own thread about this so I'm going to bitch about it here.

>tfw my new graphics card and my new RAM sticks finally came in the mail and I'm ready and excited to make my PC a beast but I don't know how to put in the new parts and I don't want to break my computer so I have to wait for my older brother to help me and he really doesn't seem to have any intention of helping me and I'm sick of waiting I already had to wait for them to come in the mail I'm ready to play with power NOW also I'm 23 and he's 27

So far, I've played portal 2, dark souls, Trove (which I play constantly on the thing), minecraft, saint's row the third, retroarch (emulation), borderlands 2, and gta 4 on the thing, and liked it. If I can give a tip, don't use configs from the community, just make your own and learn the software. The Steam Controller software is actually ridiculously powerful, and you really need to learn how to use that to get the full potential from the SC. For example, you can make it so that if you single short press a button, that sends key 1, but if you double press, you get key 2, or if you long press it sends key 3, etc. Not to mention the touch menus that can use icons, and stuff like that.

What is the googlers

Dark Souls series is pretty nice, Dark Souls 3 comes preconfigured to map roll and use item to the paddles so you almost never have to take your fingers off the joystick and touchpad

Left 4 Dead 2 is Valve's flagship title for all their new games and it has out of the box Steam controller support, it even has special button prompts when you are using the controller,

google it, and if you aren't a complete moron you should be able to figure out what part resembles the old one and just switch them.

Alright guys. I'm going to fucking do it with google.

The actually selling point is that it is better than a normal controller for games where you are expected to use a keyboard and mouse. I've never seen anyone say that it is better than a keyboard and mouse.

>take out old ram sticks
>put in new ram sticks the way the old ones were in
>take out old GPU
>put new one in the way the old one was in

there are youtube videos that walk you through the entire pc building process and if you manage to sit through them you will never have another question again

I'm fucking proud of you son.

OK the RAM sticks I can do but I don't know which one of these things is my old graphics card. And I don't know what a GPU is. I guess I'll google it.

The haptic feedback would be a lot better if it weren't clicking so goddamn loud when it did it. It sounds like a wind up toy on low and a fucking drawbridge chain on high. That being said, I don't care about that and that was never the reason I got one.

It's a decent controller, but takes a bit of getting used to. I just like it for the versatility: I can play any game a 360/xbone controller would play at about 95% efficiency, plus a ton of games that would be a huge chore to play on a controller.

> I just bought FFX and X2 remastered on steam and I literally can't use my steam controller with it,
You're fucking something up, then. X/X-2 remaster works flawlessly on steam controller for me, and even lets me use the paddles for quick access to the speedup option.

Old PC ports of games that need to be played with controllers but don't have controller support.

Anything other than shooters and simulators, really. It's a sweet controller.

I thought that at first when I got it too. After a while though I started to get good with it. Once you get the hang of the settings and how some of the different modes for the touch pads work its really good.

I've even been playing d-pad heavy stuff with it that I never thought would work with it and it handles it better than it used to, though I have SNES gamepads that I use for more serious retrogaming.

Lately I've been playing Saints Row 4 (for the Christmas content) and its worked really well for it. I don't think there's any reason to keep a Xbox or PS4 controller around.

Does anyone play fighting games with it? How the fuck do I use the D-pad? I cant feel the direction when I place my thumb on top of it, since SC's D-pad is completely flat and oversized.

Single player shooters are fun with it. It isn't as accurate as a mouse, but it is still much better than a standard controller and actually enjoyable.

>it isn't as accurate as a mouse

Pad + gyros are just as accurate as any mouse, you just need to adjust them for a while to find your sweet spot.

You've been aiming with a mouse your whole life. It's going to take you a while to build that level of muscle memory.

It's great for generally any 3rd person game or just about any game that you would normally play with a controller. I also use it for comfy RTS and FPS when I want to lay on the couch and play.
Dont bother playing any competetive games that you'd normally play with a kb and mouse, you'll be handicapped (It's still way better than playing them with a normal controller though).

I especially liked playing archer type character on Dragons Dogma with steam controller, you can aim arrows as you would with a mouse and still run around as you would with a controller. Also you can do some pretty handy binds in that game.

Hahah. No. Just no. Sure you can get better than shit, but to say its just as accurate as any mouse is just wrong.

The one major selling point of the Steam Controller is how in-depth the remappable control options are. Or you could be lazy and simply grab whatever the most popular community template is and use that instead.

Either way, I would still recommend it. It's not better, just different.

None, no games are worth playing with any controller...

Besides, possibly, a racing game.

I'm not that good with a mouse and can probably use gyro nearly as well, but I would still disagree. Ignoring the accuracy of the sensor, the mouse has the advantage of resting of a table. It makes your motions much more stable and reliable since it is better supported. You don't have to worry about your hands shaking or making unwanted motions if you pull the trigger too hard. Moving the mouse in a single plane is also a more simple motion. Based only on those human factors, I don't think gyro will every be able to be 100% as good as a mouse. I do think it is more fun though.

Civ IV is the greatest with it

Doom/probably any FPS/TPS

Also I'd imagine fighting games like street fighter would work just fine with it
