FTL: Faster Than Light

Don't mind me, just delivering this intel to Page 10.

I'll sage so I don't bother you so.

...

It appears a distress beacon is coming from the surface of a nearby moon. Your sensors are picking up a single life form.

Do you go down to the surface to investigate?

You guys got any tips to spice the game up? I put like 70 hours into it and it's sort of lost its pizzazz.

Have you tried the Captain's Edition mod? It's hit or miss with a lot of fans but if you can get into it you might squeeze more life out of it.

Giant Alien Spiders

Yeah, I tried it, but there were two many early enemies with a double-shot laser. Wrecked me.

Tips for starting off? Only just finished the game agian. I get told to explore as much as I can before the fleet is one jump away from me and to upgrade my shields to 2 and my engines aswell as much as I can, but because I'm bouncing everywhere I often run out of fuel and I also don't see how I'm going to get a new weapon unless I'm finding it. Because all of my money is going towards upgrades.

post em

I suck at this game.

>delivering intel
>have to fight an enemy capital ship instead of escape

Not likely.

...

Kill Jestah

>Keep wanting to unlock the last slug ship
>2nd one is an ungodly pain to work with

federation is cucked as fuck, I wish you could kill them all.

>tfw can only beat the flagship on easy

Nowadays I just play on the Endless Space mod

Isn't that boring

Back to the space fields nigger.

It's pretty comfy desu

Why does Zoltan have the most powerful ship?

It's been a while.

this game is shit why is it so overhyped?

>The intel was "aim for one spot at a time instead of shooting wherever like a spaz"

you're not even trying

it's really good stream bait

That's not how you spell Lanius

I like to imagine the intel was the ability to track their flagship across the sector.

Read sullla.com/FTL/ftlintro.html

That's not how you spell Stealth

>Special Flak gun that shoots faster, uses less energy, and has a tighter spread
>Teleporter
>Double Lanius boarding crew
>Clone bay right next to teleporter for zero-fucks-given
>Free scrap in the form of an augment to sell

Fuck yo air.

Maybe it's like a Star Trek thing where you have the precise frequency for their shields or recalibrated your weapons to specially damage their hull something

that's not the fed cruiser C.

it kind of has a rough start but holy FUCK is it busted. Flak artillery + beams = good game.

I have had ONE run where I got two glaives. It one shot the flagship every phase minus the last.

Why your ship's engine is inactive? Out of fuel?

Giant Alien Spiders appear! What do?
>Leave.
>Nope with extreme prejudice
>lol who the fuck carries fire beams? GTFO!

Take 'em out. We got a Clone Bay, we ain't 'fraid of nothin.

Well I'm afraid of spiders actually.

Come on, boy. Their venom is a quick and painless death, before you're cloned. Do it. Do it for the Federation.

why is this game so fucking hard? I played on easy and after a solid 20-30 attempts always died on the final boss or before

Mantis fears nothing

cause you haven't found the proper way to play it. youtube "ftl guide" by this one bearded fuck and you'll be able to beat it no problem.

Truthfully tho, that's one encounter I -always- nope out on almost automatically and I think I've never once thought, "eh I have a Clone Bay after all". Like wtf.

Wait until you reach a shop to choose your upgrades. Most ship upgrades aren't so essential that you can't wait a couple of jumps to see what kind of goodies you can pick up.

Would you look at that, someone forgot to fix their O2 systems and suffocated their crew. Looks like you need to start over.

>Crystal Caravan

Nice reference.

Also how the FUCK do people win on hard?

Cheat mods.

So what's your boarding team preference? I usually go with 2 mantises, a rockman, and a crystal if I find one. Otherwise that becomes a second rockman. Combination of HP and attack work great when I'm taking down big crews.

>capt edition mod unbalanced/requires tweaking
no shit, say what you will about FTL it was balanced really well

i'm a scrub, and I don't care, i'm having fun.

Just give me four mantis. DPS baby.
Still, punching weapons to 0 is good fun with 3 crystals and whatever else to fill the teleporter pad on the Crystal B.

>So what's your boarding team preference?
2 humans

The Carnelian Special. 3 Crystals and a Mantis.

>not using multiple rockmen and just setting the whole fucking ship on fire

But some dreams, some dreams just don't come true, user.
Rock B is one of my favorite ships for exactly that, though.

>setting the whole ship on fire
>needing to do anything else
I love your style but tbhfam you only need to board or burn, either or will scramble the enemy crew AI

>teleport fire bomb in
>fire sizzles because the enemy crew is on top of that shit

>teleport fire bomb in followed by Rockmen
>fire engulfs the entire fucking ship as the enemy crew drops their spaghetti at these mad combined arms

I mean, unless you have a couple lucky fire beam passes lighting every tile they hit, or the enemy crew is all mantis, you're not going to engulf the enemy ship by that alone.

I bought this game last night after not having played it since I pirated it on release.
It's fun. How's the Advanced Edition content?

you're like me but even more ruthless

I started with it on. It's good shit.
Hacking is OP, but enemies get scarier weapons too, in the form of flak cannons.
Mind control is also fun. I tend to skip drone control because defense drones 1s are the only worthwhile drone.
But god help you if you're forced to go to a Lanius sector late game. Their ships are made to fuck your mouth.

It's just more stuff. Also, harder. Makes pretty much no sense playing without it. Flaks are the only iffy addition because they're pretty OP but it's still worth it.

I have a cargo of sage for you to take with you

Is there a better feeling than killing an enemy crew without teleporters or specialized weapons like bombs?

I hate playing advanced, but in Vanilla its basically "Get Mantis Ship, proceed to win everything".

They toned down boarding a lot in advanced so it takes longer and requires more investment to make viable, but in Vanilla, it becomes

>4 mantis boarders at once
>if enemy ship has no medbay, instant GG
>if enemy ship has a medbay, use bombs or torps and then GG
>metric fucktons of scrap since killing crew gives extra scrap and higher chance of weapons/augments every ship
>this leads to a buff as fuck ship

And when you get to the enemy mothership, its just
>teleport in and murder everyone but 1 guy since crew doesn't respawn between phases
>mothership is now gimped as fuck and the AI doesn't take over
>board and destroy everything each phase then finish it off with a torp or bomb

Yes, killing an enemy crew without taking damage.

That happens too often to trump my feel.

WE COME IN PEACE
Priority override.
Must break target into component materials.

>Meet Kazaak
>Only mantis on board is Smith, the mantis who believes he's a human being
>He can do rituals with Kazaak flawlessly

>get the event again after getting Smith
>Smith meets Smith, Smith becomes frightened and attacks Smith, but Smith is killed in self defense
