No, because I'm not fucking retarded. It doesn't take a genius to realize the tech came too early. It's akin to the Virtual Boy claiming its games were 3D.

VR will never replace plain, flat screens outside of advanced training simulators.

VR just does not offer practically over the existing methods of gaming.

I mean, I got one of those cheap Google Cardboard compatible things for like $10 and dicked around with my phone faking VR with Streetview.

I sometimes take 360º photos with cardboard camera when I wanna do that with a place I've been on vacation or something.

So why does NOBODY care about VR porn anymore?

That was the reason most of us were hyped for VR in the first place. Now the technology is there, people who've tried VR porn say it's incredible, but people suddenly don't give a shit.

What the fuck is that?

Only idiots bought into it wholesale. It's neat but like it's always been it's a novelty and it will always be one. There are real applications for it for training and education. Like there always has been. The VR experience is not one the majority of people want as their primary media source

Learn grammar first, and don't criticize things without trying them (like myself, I haven't tried VR yet).

It's lame. 3D porn was supposed to be the future too.
Believe it or not, people subconsciously enjoy practicality over needless luxury.

It's uncouth. Plus vive is the only possible option. That and the current phone VR

Oh, yeah, lol. I tried using a VR headset to jerk off and it was alright. Neck pain became a problem.

Everything old is new again.

>It's lame
That's not what people who've tried it have told me.

>It's uncouth
I'm sorry, your highness

PC VR is a meme but VR on phones is gonna be where the future lies. Phones are only going to become more capable as time goes on, and you won't have any bullshit wires and sensors to deal with.

>VR on phones
God help us all

>tfw too poor to fall for the memes

No, I don't have enough money to fall for the VR meme.

I have a Vive, don't regret it at all.

It's mostly shit. Pre-rendered video means that any translational movement kills your immersion. Realtime rendering just isn't there yet, unless you really like CG anime.

nope.

not gonna lie though, i played a bunch of VR games at a friends house and had a blast.
wouldnt pay $700+ on everything though. fun games but not worth it at that price.

is psvr worth it lads?

Was originally too poor to fall for it, but now that I've got a better computer, I'm still not falling for it on the grounds that VR doesn't offer shit to me anyway. If I played more games in first person, maybe, but until then, I'm keeping my money.

No. Mixed reality will be the revolution. These goggles are just gimmicks, some very specific applications aside. Mixed reality has the potential to render all screen panels obsolete. It will cover both normal conventional vidya and HMD type stuff.

Real vagina is cheaper.

VR porn needs to be as good as live chat room porn, and it simply doesn't pass muster.

Am I dreaming or was the PSVR bundle when it first came out on $400? I see the shit is $700 everywhere

But then you have to deal with 3DPD

I did, though I think it's getting alright.

I've had a Vive since ~August and desu it was kinda shit at first. I just wanted it to sperg out with racing games.

Now though there's some cool shit coming out - I'm having a lot of fun with Vertigo and Eagle Flight.

Your hand is 3DPD

I literally just want it for subnautica. Fuck

Computers aren't nearly advanced enough for them to work out well in the near future. Narrow FoV + low resolution means that standard monitors will be better. Full VR sets work well right now because you can ignore the low FoV stuff fairly easily.

Well yeah, why the fuck do you think I want VR porn?

quads confirm
But pls no bully.

I was too much of a poorfag to even consider VR

VR is dead and Palmer Luckey's white nationalism killed it.

>>>/tumblr/

VR HMDs will completely replace conventional monitors within five years. Because they will attain resolutions and ergonomics design capable of provifing competent 'virtual monitor' applications. We are already very nearly there, with most poor ergonomics as the main limiting factor (although SDE and resolution is only marginally adequate).

Waiting for wireless Vive before I jump on, I'm now on space as it is and don't need an umbilical cord attached to the back of my head.

>Meanwhile, the first year for virtual reality was sobering, especially for manufacturers of dedicated hardware.
>A high price point, the absence of a strong content line-up, and difficulties with properly delivering through retail cooled consumers’ expectations of the Oculus Rift.
>SuperData expects firms with more experience in hardware manufacturing like Sony and HTC to take the lead in 2017. Still, VR grew to $2.7 billion in 2016.

venturebeat.com/2016/12/21/worldwide-game-industry-hits-91-billion-in-revenues-in-2016-with-mobile-the-clear-leader/

I would have to buy a whole new PC on top of the VR hardware and the ludicrously overpriced games

no thanks

In Europe PSVR alone was sold for 399.99 Euro (tax included), you still needed roughly 50 Euro camera and possibly 2 move controllers if you didn't buy into waglan meme earlier on PS3.

Owned a vive, did not regret it at all.

>itt poorfags that don't own a vive
it's pretty great and worth the price of admisson, if you haven't demoed one, you literally have no idea what you are missing.

so what games are you playing that absolutely requires a VR headset and not just an add-on feature to a game that can be played without it?

oh and i mean actual games, not just tech demos like those shitty shooting galleries.

>get PSVR working with PC
>hardly any games work right

It's so fucking close to being usable.

I bought a Vive a few months ago and love it. It's difficult if not downright impossible to describe what the experience is like to someone who hasn't been in VR.

I've had a bunch of friends and family give it a spin and the reactions have all been the same disbelief and enjoyment.

ITT: Fox and grapes

VR is fucking amazing

Biggest problem of VR: no intuitive input.
Maybe I'll give it a go when they have glove type input.
Could be good with haptic feedback gloves. Although will probably stay a niche like other media that require expensive externals.

>in 2016
no. it is a flat out failure PERIOD.

i bet it was still underdeveloped but some greedy jews bought the entire company when they saw what they needed and then started mass-shipping it for outrageous prices as soon as their slave workers could get it to function barely.

In a couple years you will get new painfully-gradual updates that barely do anything sold separately as a new device for full price. Instead if some competent worker/developer were in ownership of their device, they would easily fixed many issues in one quick swoop. Same as the iPhone and all that other garbage. They deliberately halt progression and viability for the sake of profit

tl;dr - fucking jews gonna jew

Did the guy with PSVR Github made any progress?

>Failure in 2013
It was a failure in the 80/90s, this is just a rehash of the same failure because the gaming industry can't make anything original any more.

The best part about VR is playing games off the dolphin in VRGamecube and wii games in VR is the fucking tits.
The HMD is basically just an amazing monitor/interface, but as for retail games, the VR adventure games like call of the starseed are actually really great.

Nope and it's simply still too early for VR. Not in terms of Hardware, because we're getting 4k 90/120hz VR in 2017, but because that shit is simply way too expensive for anyone but the enthusiasts of the enthusiasts.

It's going to get big when either the hardware becomes much more cheaper or until smartphones are capable of running desktop level VR applications.

so gamecube games and one game.
WOW! totally worth it! ill take 5! one for each room

You know valve released the specs to the lighthouse design for free right? fucking anybody can develop peripherals that work with them and sell them.

>rehash
>we failed once so we shouldn't bother anymore even if the tech improved significantly
If the whole humanity acted in such smartass-retard way we would still be living in caves.

Nope, i borrowed a headset from someone and the only game i had any fun with was Thumper.

>Didn't fall for VR meme
>Didn't fall for Steam Machines meme
>Didn't fall for No Man's Sky meme
>Didn't fall for Battleborn meme
>Didn't fall for Rock Band 4 meme

This year has pretty much been "I'm right, you're wrong, get over it": The Year.
I'm fucking Nostradamus. Check this shit. In 2017:

>VR will fade away in 2016, like 3D did
>Nintendo Switch will have horrible launch lineup. Nintendo is hurting by the end of the year
>Street Fighter V will go Free 2 Play by the end of the year
>Valve will actually release a new game
>SNK announces a 2.5D Metal Slug game
>Mass Effect 4 gets great reviews, is shit
>Xbox One is console of the year
>Crackdown 3 is a surprise hit.
>Scalebound is game of the year.

>Xbox One is console of the year
I'm pretty sure they can double their userbase
From 10 to 20.

So let me get this straight, you don't want to play well made games in a more immersive fashion for no cost past the initial unit? Do you still have a CRT monitor? The vive is 700 dollars right now, it's less expensive than a lot of other things that are part of the enthusiast marketplace.

8==========D MY DICK!

Old enough to have seen VR attempts come and go before. As usual, the games are almost entirely dull tech demos trying to snag the quick buck. For porn, it's just too much setup for something I'd do impulsively.

>Valve will actually release a new game.
and
>VR will fade away.
>Scalebound is game of the year.
You're a fool. Valve will release multiple new games, the games we've been waiting for, 'HLVR', 'HL3', 'L4D3', 'RPG', 'Prospero', 'Stars of Blood', etc. expect at least three of the above.

I bought a vive and use it constantly for fapping. I bought some games but have not even played them yet.

it's an 800$ porn machine and I don't regret it at all

The tech for VR will always be "too early". Nobody wants it same as nobody wanted 3D. They're fads that get trotted out every 15-20 years until people lose interest.

I have one. At the moment, I would say "No" for most people because there really aren't too many good VR games available.

However, if you have the money and are willing to take a risk or be patient, it's worth getting just because it's so intriguing. The sense of being somewhere else is very convincing and I can easily see games where you're driving a vehicle of some sort (car, motorcycle, spaceship, etc.) being incredibly realistic and entertaining. If the software is done right, you can imagine you're feeling things like going up or down a hill.

Sony is putting a lot of resources into making PSVR successful (PlayStation is one of the few businesses Sony has that isn't eating dirt). I anticipate that there will be two or three really good VR games in 2017. If you're not sure, wait around and see what, if any, games come out before making a purchase.

Finally, if your last experience with VR is the Nintendo Virtual Boy, you'll be incredibly impressed with what's available today. I get the impression that a lot of the negative comments about VR here are from people who think today's VR is Virtual Boy but in full color or they're shit posting without ever having really tried any of the VR products.

They're expensive, that's true and one of the biggest barriers to it being an acknowledged successful product. Microsoft and its partners will be releasing a $300 headset some time and that may further drive the VR market.

However, my prediction is that PSVR is most likely where the most VR software will be. Sony has created a relatively low-cost turnkey system that has a whole number multiple of VR units sold versus Oculus Rift and Vive. The developers are going to go where the customers are and where development is easiest. At the moment, that's PSVR.

That was before the age of porn hub, with normal fags getting their toes wet with google glass and watch VR porn it's only a matter of time before they make the leap to a vive or occulus.

I'll only buy one when they're wireless and much less bulky. I'll only accept earbuds for audio too. Over ear headphones irritate me.

The vive has one thing going for it, steams fucking indie market.
Yeah 90% of it is shit, but a lot of stuff can be demoed and returned thanks to steams refund policy and its basically going to be a small core of developers making games only out of passion.

It makes yer face look like an anvil

huhuh

>google glass
AR is viable and useful, VR is not.

Lol no, shit's always looked like a fad.

>implement motion tracking
>strap screen to face
>"""""virtual reality"""""

Calling the Oculus Rift "VR" is like calling the pictured device a "hoverboard".

I meant to say carboard fuck,

No Ar is not fucking useful, it's a huge meme for companies too retarded to realize that celphones do all the things they want AR to do.

The prices you're seeing are scalpers. The PSVR is sold out in many places.

Once Sony is able to get more product in the channels, those scalpers will get blown out. The price for PSVR is $400 for the basic kit (headset) and $500 for the bundle (headset, camera, wands, and games).

youtube.com/watch?v=ixFmWj_eSys

Just give us a 4k VR HMD already. You plebs don't even play games that require head tracking.

Vive is coming out with a wireless and I think the headphones are changeable, I'd hope anyway.

"Hoverboards" are the cringiest shit. There's no way to use one of those and not look like a massive tool.

I'll buy into it when the screens are fucking worth a damn. My friend has a Vive and while its certainly fun, the screendoor effect and chromatic aberration takes me out every time, especially if you want to focus on something.

If I had a spare $600 or whatever the Vive costs, I'd buy one.

Wireless is already out for the vive, and the headphones are earbuds by default but it has a 3,0 usb port and the earbuds are plugged into a headphone jack you can change out.

Too expensive, not enough software support, too high of PC spec requirements, likely nausea experienced by users, and far too much physical space required in the case of the Vive. Outside of hobbyists or really rich people who just want to blow money on the thing, it lacks any sort of compelling reason to purchase.

And no, I didn't fall for the VR meme :)

How much lag does the wireless variant have?

>"VR"

always good for a laugh

Really enjoyed what time I spent with it, even while hoping for improvement in the future.

If only they were feasible to sell at a far lower pricepoint they could be widely appreciated but instead they're crucified. I hate the hyperbole of it all.

I won the VR bundle from Taco Bell, so I don't really care if it ends up being worthless or not.

The term you might be looking for is AUGMENTED Reality.

No idea, I honestly have no desire to get one because the cord is a no factor for me and most other non elephant people.
It's pretty funny that VR sickness is literally a casual barrier and is going to heavily insulate the community from that cancerous shit.

VR will be shit until we reach SAO or Accel World levels of technology
before that it will be shit because it would need motion controls and Zelda skyward sword already shown us how bad it could be having gameplay based on motion controls only

dude have you played the vive?
Serious sam and doom 3 are smooth as fuck with that vive wands.

>i_was_only_pretending.jpg

my friends and i call them doucheplanks

AR works if implemented as a feature subset of a VR HMD. Stand-alone AR devices, ie. transparent-screen HMDs, are genuinely useless gimmicks.

I can't wait for when we have AR enabled cars and just display any readouts on the windshield instead of the dashboard. Just replace the dashboard.

are you retarded?

A wireless VR headset would be nice but I suspect, in the end, people will care less about it being wireless than they think. The reasoning being that I cannot imagine too many people want to actually stand up and walk around for hours while they play a game. It sounds interesting until you have to do it.

Imagine playing a dungeon crawler where your party has to spend a few hours to make it through an area with a combat encounters along the way. A player is likely to want to eventually sit down rather than continue standing and walking to get through the dungeon.

VR will forever be a meme until they figure out how to move players without them getting motion sickness. Every game that isn't vehicle based relies on the player having very limited movement currently.

You get over the motion sickness,
I play through most of serious sam with the touchpad and it's really not a big deal.
Normal fag adopters that can't into video games is whats killing VR right now.

Doesn't the Oculus Rift also work with the VR games on Steam?

If it doesn't, that's another reason why VR on the PC is not going anywhere. Low sales figures (I think roughly 300,000 each for Vive and OR) and having to develop for two somewhat different platforms is preventing commercial companies from taking risk on a PC VR game.

Onward.

No, but I don't drive. Why do you disagree?
