Ahahaha, look at all this faggots crying at Pontiff, they're just awful at the game

>Ahahaha, look at all this faggots crying at Pontiff, they're just awful at the game
>I bet when I get to fight him, it'll be easy af
LITERALLY.
IMPOSSIBLE.

You're supposed to summon help

>It's a "shitter forgets that parrying is a vital part of the game and neglects it" episode

>all those no shield fags getting bodied
learn to roll and get a shield nigga. 1st tried that bitch

As much as you are for any other boss I guess.

But I can parry him, it's the second phase that kills me

>summoning on your first playthrough
you haven't beaten the game yet
>parrying bosses
neither have you

I didn't use a shield and also beat it first try. Felt like I got lucky though.

the clone repeats his moves. just stick close to a wall and you're golden.

Let me tell you how a thinking man deals with a boss, dumbass.

>fight pontiff
>get to illusion phase
>die to it
>"what the fuck that thing is so hard to fight when they're both together"
>try to fight him with charcoal pine resin on
>realize that fighting the illusion with melee is a pain in the ass, but he takes a lot of fire damage
>go to patches
>buy black firebombs, shit-tons
>fight him again, get to illusion phase
>the black firebombs literally melt the fucking illusion and you can use them from a distance
>quickly beat the boss after learning this

You can beat him without summoning or parrying. But, since I don't do either of those, he was the hardest boss for me by far. Then I played a pyromancer and won first try. So I guess it depends on the character you have too.

Theres something really strange about this boss

If you can parry his very first attack he for some reason becomes so dumb and stupid that every attack after that is easy as shit to parry and he dies really quick. But if you miss his first few attacks he goes on a huge tirade and becomes so much more difficult, does way more combos and shit for some reason

I beat him using a great machete two handed. You don't need a shield.

I didn't summon on my first playthrough.
I beat him solo.

It's just painfully obvious that DS3 bosses were not designed with the intention to be soloed.

Does anyone else not really use shields that much anymore? I think I've played more playthroughs of the Souls series without a shield than with a shield. I find it more fun that way.

I wanted to try this but I think both Patches and Siegmeyer's quests are glitched, Siegmeyer's still at the well and Patches disappeared after i saw him at the tower behind Firelink Shrine

Equip buckler parry boss kill clone then boss while generating next clone

Pyromancy
Charcoal pine resin
Fire arrows

c'mon

is a boss solo? yes?
then you're supposed to solo him

>b-but that second phase has a ghost that repeats his moves
come on now

the only bosses that were designed with coop in mind were 2cat & biggie smalls and they weren't DaS3

>2cats
>not solo
whats the point of soloing all the other bosses of the game if you pussy out at the hardest

>playing the game for the first time
>get super hyped and get the shaky hands
>play it again
>notice the fight is actually kinda shit
Who in the goddamn world said infinite hyper armor on the first phase and four frame attack animations are okay?

The second phase is arguably easier, since he stops being sonic fast and just does one attack at a time in tandem with his stando.

Also, if you use some weapon with heavy vertical attacks, like a greataxe or a greathammer, the boss can actually miss you, because your attack animation leaves you half bend over, so your hurtbox is smaller.

>Mfw I beat Pontiff using a 2handed mace

If I can do it with that slow as shit weapon so can anything else

I never understood why i had way more trouble with abyss watchers than Pontiff in my first playthrough

summon the NPCs [yes there are 2 of them] in front of his door...

he's at least easier than greatwood, just summon some sunny d's

>ever summoning anything on a first playthrough of a souls game
are you gay?

>not doing thing game wants you do,
>so hardcore
>i am sure you don't use toilet paper to wipe too...

>beat him first try solo
Feels great bros.

Fucking friede on the other hand, attempt number 80 and I can't beat that fucker.

There are some gestures you can only learn from summoned NPCs.

Why is he such a best boy?

Beat Friede on the first try solo. She has literally no poise. Just get aggressive.

But every boss in DaS3 is easy you stupid fuck, Pontiff was like one of a dozen I beat on my first try.

I legitimately had an intensely more difficult time fighting him with an uchigatana compared to a greatsword. I forget exactly which greatsword I used on my first playthrough, but I believe it was the Hollow Slayer, and I had little trouble.

Because he just fucked up everyone

>what do you mean I didn't beat the game if I used the easy difficulty
>not doing thing game wants you do,

>solo'd and first-tried almost every boss in the game
>outright refused to fight Pontiff without summoning because I fucking loathe the enemies in Illiyum Loyce or whatever it's called

Fucking Dark Souls 3

He's my favorite boss to fight. The Twin Princes on the other hand was just annoying. Especially after they kill and taunt you with Lothric's gay as fuck voice.
>You can rest here if you like
Fuck you, faggot.

I also want to add that I always try to solo a boss before using a summon, you lose the right to call a souls boss easy if you had to use a summon.

Beat him my first try. The real trouble is that dragon rider dude on the bridge with the mean dragons. That shit was punishing. I stopped playing for that day. Dies around 16 times to him.

Pontiff counts as Hollow, so Hollowslayer does double damage on him.

Irithyll. Eleum Loyce was in the Dark Soul 2 DLC.
What were you using? Those guys have pretty low poise and shield break reduction.

That is literally one of the easiest bosses in the souls series. Maybe you should just GIT GUD

>play Dex build and require at least 10 tries to beat him
>replay on STR build and kill his illusion before it can even move - first try him

That fight is pretty easy when you play the game on easy mode aka pure STR.

>Sulyvahn was hollow
What the fuck

I'm doing a parry run for the first time ever this week and god DAMN is it beautiful. Quality build, refined Lothric Knight Sword, and target shield. Enemies like black and silver knights just melt away before the mighty strength of my parry-ripostes. It's amazing.

you are just butt hurt and making annoying noises.

I've beaten him with ultra greatswords too, but only in NG+ and beyond, and that isn't a great judge for base difficulty. I just always seem to have trouble with properly utilizing smaller, quicker weapons and stuff in basically all vidya.
In general the game was harder for me using primarily an uchigatana.

thanks for admitting you're wrong

OP here, im trying to kill him using the Astora greatsword, did i fuck up by trying to use an ultra greatsword?

I just wanna play the dark souls game the way I want to play. Much, but not all, of the community are faggots who come up with the most autistic rules and formalities when it comes to playing the game and/or pvp. Reminds me of pvpers in mmorpgs.

If people want to play the way they want to, then let them.

Or don't, that's what invasions are for.

Mace isn't so bad.

From my experience it's honestly harder going through a Souls game with the faster DEX weapons.

Against the more aggressive bosses like Pontiff, you're only going to get 1 hit in between his attacks no matter which weapon you use.

Even fast shit like the rapier or straight sword can only tap him once or twice before shit gets risky. You're better off with the higher damage and poise damage from an axe or GS.

STR builds are overpowered as fuck, there should be no problems.

i still feel like you think you are better because you don't use toilet paper to wipe.

How much SRT is recommended to fight him?
Im level 44 with 26 STR, i think

I died like 30 times until i beat it, here's my advice:
1)Learn to parry the first attack
2)Always dodge sideways, never backwards

Nah, you should be fine. Just don't get too greedy and take full advantage of when he's summoning his clone. Not sure if the weapon art will be of great help, though.

the best way is to parry him.

when he spawns the copy you just have to go crazy and hit them both as much as you can.
with a little luck you will be able to predict the attacks that are coming (he telegraphs it well)

you just have to hit him a lot

then you just go back to parrying him. it's a great boss to teach you parrying.

Those rules only really apply in duels or the arena.

Just invade at the non-duel locations or Aldritch place. That shit is chaos.

Cap out at 27/28 STR if you plan on two-handing often.

Go for 40 otherwise.

Weapon types don't matter much, just go with what you're comfortable with.

Twin princes is 100 times harder

its called justification for all the time spent "mastering" a fucking singleplayer videogame
when you just come by and say "i beat the boss first try with a summon" you devalue his whole life, thus triggering his brain's defensive reaction to prevent its own mental breakdown so he starts assuring himself that its just the "shitty scrubs who havent TRULY experienced the game"

Offhand Crossbow
You're fucking welcome

The run up the stairs to them is harder than the boss

No, they're much slower, more telegraphed and by the time you fight them you're much stronger.

Phase 1 took me 5 tries to get through, phase 2 I got the first time I reached it

Eh, you kinda need to kind of move diagonally backwards, he has a lot range and followups with borderline non-existent telegraphs because the way the AI considers its next move. You can also dodge towards under his right arm (your left), it's a pretty huge blindspot especially if you're taking advantage of weapons that lower your character during certain animations.

I have been using two handed for a long time, but now im getting used to parry and it feels great, but I think I'll go two-handed anyway

You should be able to parry and switch to two-handing your weapon before the animation ends.

Shouldn't be too hard to get used to.

Are the people who perpetuate this meme PCucks that have never touched Bloodborne or something? I mean, Sulyvahn isn't easy, but he's far from difficult. I beat him without a shield and without parry without much difficulty. He's not even the hardest boss in the game.

and you are missing the story and lore by not summoning those NPCs
they teach you a lot and most of them are essential for sub quests.
they are part of the story
and you are missing it.

they are not there to make game easier,
they are part of the story.

learn to role play. not roll play.

>more telegraphed
>literally teleports on top of you

That sure is a lot of words just to say "I am a casual shitter".

Last I checked, when people say summon, they meant online summons, not NPC summons.

I didnt level between the two

It took me 6 times on my first.

Not a death since. Attack first, dodge, parry.

I made it clear that I am talking about NPCs.

Literally none of the previous posts in the reply chain mention NPC summons.

>Last I checked
You're not cute, or clever.
Even NPC summons are effective, all the way up to NG+.

Seems like you're not clever either. I wasn't talking about NPC summons effectiveness. I was talking about how people refer to online summons and not NPC summons when they summon. That was the case last time I checked, unless it has changed.

>darksouls 1 looks better than ds3 on ps4

bloodborne is an absolutely terrible game and theres nothing you can learn from it that would make that fight any easier

playing actual souls games and the basic skills that you should have learned from that are all you need to beat every boss in DaS3. its by far the easiest one

Such bullshit.

wait hol up
what's that

wait you're telling me you can play a game multiple times?
whoa

The teleport is obvious and his attack is easy enough to dodge after.

But I didn't think about fat roll builds, yeah it might be a bit cheap for them.
