A good concept ruined by supernatural demon bullshit. The guy's basically immortal, "respawning" every time he fully dies. That means the people trying to take him down are trying to place him into a coma with tranquilizers.
There's some great potential for a modern "legend of the immortal warrior," but the ability to call upon "demons" to help them makes the whole idea feel redundant. It's not the man who's the superior warrior at that point, but the demon behind him. Ruins the whole point of what makes it appealing.

Can't speak for the VNs but the anime is shit. I dropped it around half because the pacing was incredibly shit and nothing important was happening.
There was this one fight scenes that's not meant to be entertaining as a fight scene but demonstrate that the main character is unbeatable. Yet they drag it out for a whole episode and just slogs you with, "Nice thundara, here's my thundaga." Much like JRPGs with long winded cutscene attacks, it felt limp despite being flashy as fuck because of how not critical it was.
