The game has a built in casual safety net if you fuck up bad and let the demon army take most of the map. Just keep the stalemate up for 40-80 turns, I don't remember exactly, and you'll get an event where you instantly get all the provinces except for one of the islands in the south.

On normal mode they only take 1 territory per turn. You literally can't lose.

A bit more seriously, there will be a timeskip event that has Rance take over all of Japan except the Demon's starting area, assuming you can survive that long. It will happen multiple times, if you keep losing. Mind you, you do still need to survive and keep Oda alive.

If that doesn't work, time to start the game over from scratch. And you can use what you learned the first time around to do better this time.

Well the first battle they attacked me 5 or 6 times in 1 turn. managed to win 3 then got my ass kicked because only my shit units were left. Should I try and retake what they took or should i try and take their territory instead?

To be fair, you probably didn't understand how the game worked very well at that point and you likely left a bunch of territories unconquered, which means the Demon Army is literally right next to Oda and kicking in your front door the entire time. It's entirely possible to lose at that point, and most people won't have armies set up to deal with repeated group nukes from a 2000-troop unit.

It feels almost like a joke at how easy they are to manage once you know what you are doing.

I dont even know where to spend gold on besides replenishing units.

Buy up the unit count on your important characters. You're going to need it. That gold isn't doing you any good.

Use any stat-boost items you've been hoarding. Character stats matter a lot more than unit count at higher numbers.

Take over the Miko Institute and the raccoons, if you can. The Demon Army will begin conquering everything you don't, except the One-Eye territory, so you'll want to grab as much land (and characters) as you can before they're all gone.

Just a protip
If you do Kentarou's events he eventually becomes a demon, and that means he won't die
If you place him alone with 0 troops defending, you win the game because the enemy can't damage him
Also increase troop size of your units, it is literally the single use gold has apart from refilling woudned troops

I made the mistake of forcing the armies to surrender instead of just attacking them. I made a lot of mistakes playing.

I had more trouble with Tokugawa's last battle than the devil army since I didn't kill any of teh racoons, and they were durable as fuck

The demon army is meant to fuck you up. Their threat is the surprise and strength of their initial rush. They have no stamina, so if you endure, you win. Eventually.

You buy more troops for the units.

BTW OP here, I ordered second reinforcement from zeth before the demon army appeared. Would they still arrive eventhough the demon army appeared? A friend says they wont after the demon army appears.

Sengoku Rance is probably a game where it is not a bad idea to have a look at some hints or guides even. There is alot of shit you can waste your fans on and it is not very likely that you will manage to get additional ones with ease.

Bullshit. Despite saying that "nobody will join them so they have limited troops", the Demon Army will continuously recruit new units to replace any that you kill off. They're going to be as strong twenty turns from now as they are now. You're going to be grinding your ass off to get through them, especially if you let some better units die in the initial rush.

The only plus side is that you keep getting reset if you start losing, so you can basically take as much time as you want level grinding or gathering other units to fight them.

In Rance IX it is revealed that her highest level skill is in housekeeping, making her as good at it as someone like Kenshin is with a sword.

Don't know what to say. I had the same reaction as OP but after several turns to cut into their numbers they just went limp on me.

Rance Quest has been translated for ages, but because of the deal with Mangagamer they can't release it. The dramafags on /vg/ were the ones who translated 5 and 6 for MG.
There's a rough translation of events for IX as well as an interface patch.

Because the game doesn't mind giving the player objectively bad options.
It's hardly the only trap in the game.

The option exists entirely so that you can escape from getting fucked in multi-front wars.

If you're only at war with 1 opponent and are able to get them to surrender, then you might as well just conquer them. But if you're at war with multiple opponents and are being overwhelmed, getting one of them to surrender so that you can't focus on the other is a good trade off.

Its good to stop the big guy for a few turns.

Don't run a full party the entire time, you'll get less EXP and burn through your stamina, thus ending your dungeon diving early.
Rance, Rocky, Sanakia, and Sill are the best characters for general exploring as they have the most stamina. Maria is the best character for fighting.

I believe one of the most appealing things about Rance is that he's the definition of a hero.

It's just not a chivalric hero we're so used to, but instead of antiquity's definiton of a Hero a la Hercules, Achilles and Agamemnon. The classic low-tech "I conquered your country and stole your bitch" from ages long past and forgotten. That's like his whole dynamic with pretty much every other male in the series, they try to be typical, modern JRPG protags and end up screwed, while he acts like someone out of a 500BC myth and ends up better for it (relatively, anyway. He's not without fuck ups).

Mentioned somewhere else, but although X will be the last "mainline" game, it most likely won't be the last Rance game. Alicesoft and TADA especially have several dream projects for Rance that go beyond 04 or a Kichikuou reboot. I know specifically of one that's ambitious as fuck where you pick where Rance is born and go through all 25ish years of his life, and how that would effect world events (like if he was born in Zeth and became a Mage instead of a Warrior, and how that'd impact his personality). It's some enormous dream project of Alicesoft that they've been talking about since IX came out, I think. I hope I live to play it one day.

How good is the "Weaken Enemy Countries" satisfaction bonus? I saw a screenshot of a battle where the enemy commanders only had ~30 troops each, but I didn't see anything like that despite taking it 10 times in my last playthrough.

Build up Rance and Kenshin's troops to 1000 and the diviner's to 500.

You can take out the Mikos for a couple of good units (Natori and a unique monk). Mouri has some good ones but they're going to be dead soon. The racoon dudes have some good ones too. The One-Eyed guy is probably too tough for you.
