I'm looking to get a new graphics card since my old 650Ti Boost is struggling to run anything anymore

Since I'm a poorfag, budget is around 180 euros. And here lies the dilemma:

Should I get a brand new 1050Ti or try to catch a good, used GTX970?

Happy New Year bros

get the 1050ti.
newer tech, longer lifespan. The low-power design and DX12 support, as pointless as it may end up being in the Vulkan supporting world of ours, are still good pros. The 1050ti is ranked on par with the GTX780 in many comparisons, and still owning the 770 myself and having no problems playing most games at 1080p / high, the even higher-tier + newer tech packing card would certainly serve you well.

Okay thank you user. Anyone else wanna chime in?

Shut up Pajeet, we chased you out of Sup Forums already. You lost.
The 1050 ti is fine.

I'm not talking about the 1050ti. It would be silly to recommend against it considering AMD doesn't have a direct competitor at that price level, only one above and one below.

But if you buy Nvidia, you buy the newest, period.

OP here, thank you very much for your input. I guess 1050Ti it is, then.

Cutepie for your troubles.

just get AMD's rx 470

Pascal or go home.

get 970 if its at the same price, not worth dropping 20% performance for 1 series newer

GTX 970 has DX12 support. Shit, I get like 6 FPS average on DX12 in Hitman with a GTX 980.

6 more FPS that is.

do you recommend upgrading to win 10 for gaming performance?

win 10 is trash so never "upgrade" to it

True, my friend. Would changing my OS to Windows 10 reap any gaming benefits? I am given to understand that Direct X 12 is Win10 only because Microsoft.

no lol.

Unless you like Microsoft breaking your shit with automatic updates and there isn't enough candy crush in your life which microsoft gleefully installs without your consent. I have updates and Windows store turned off/gutted, but I know what I'm doing so it'd be dumb of me to recommend this crap OS to anyone who asks questions.

I'd go for an RX 470.
If you're on a budget, AMD's modern cards tend to have longer legs and will be more useful for a much longer time.
I've seen them go for as low as $150.

Thanks. I did have a legal copy of win 10 on my laptop but replaced it with pirate win 7 when stuff stopped working for no reason which I blamed on automatic updates.

Also I should note that there is a reason why I gain so much frame rate from DX12 even though the general trend is that it doesn't really make much of a difference on nvidia hardware in typical cases.
The reason is that my CPU is extremely low frequency, at 2GHz. So the fact that DX12 is more heavily multi-threaded even on nvidia hardware helps immensely to counteract that performance limitation.

the 970 is superior in every way to the 1050ti,

if you can nab a 970 for that price, get it. if not, the 1050ti.

Good to know. I have a 3ghz i5 and was thinking of upgrading to one I can overclock to 4ghz+ but for the same price I can slot in a 2nd GTX 970. What would you do?

>euro =/= dollar

the cheapest 470 on pcpp is 196 euro which is quite a bit over op's budget

I would never ever SLI or crossfire cards. Unless the opportunity presented itself on a silver platter. Eg I got a free second card from somewhere. Even then I'd think twice about it.

>>euro =/= dollar
Almost m8.
1 EUR is only $1.05

> poorfag

Here's an idea. Instead of scrimping on a GPU, save for another month and get a better one. You'll probably find a better deal in the January sales anyway.

>196 euro

Holy shit, why is everything so expensive there? Just got a rx 470 for $150 which is 142 euros

Never buy last gen Nvidia.

youtube.com/watch?v=w_FJyfttrwU

mfw 780Ti is on par with a fucking 1050Ti.

Yeah, I had 2 8800GTs once and they got hot as fuck.

Basically I want an upgrade which will bring noticeable improvements but moving from a 970 to a 1070 would be a lot of money for not much difference. I considered getting a 4ghz i7 to replace the 3ghz i5 but don't feel it will make much gaming difference.
I figured that I already have 1 970 so a second one would definitely be an improvement and makes use of the shit I already have.

Just wait for the next gen or until something good is released. I don't see why you'd want to upgrade from a 970 right now. I mean I get that the performance isn't amazing, but it's not low enough yet that you are forced to upgrade to play games at good settings with good framerates. Not yet anyway.

Just save a couple months and get a 1080ti. Then have the best card there is for the next couple years.

amd is usually quite a bit more expensive here especially compared to their usa pricing. nvidia always has good sales here and offer really cheap brands like palit or inno3d which will be the main choice for many people since they're cheaper. pricing is everything after all when it comes to gpu's. that's probably why nvidia is so insanely popular in europe, they're generally cheaper.

If you want something cheap, go for a prev gen AMD card or, if you want, a prev gen NVIDIA card. Always buy a non-used new card

Thanks dude, that's basically what I thought but you have reassured me and probably saved me from wasting money.

Not OP, but how is my build? Trying to keep it under $500 or close to it. Already have a case, HDD and Power Supply.

You should as a general rule skip 1 generation whenever you're upgrading a graphics card if you want meaningful upgrades, it's very rare that upgrading every single generation is efficient.

I mean in the end it's up to how you want to spend your money, but I think it's a good idea to skip 1 generation.

>1x8 RAM

Either get 2x4GB or spend a little extra to get 2x8 and never worry about RAM again.

a 780 ti is almost 3 generations old though. most of the 7xx series were rebrands of the 6xx series with better efficiency. the 780 ti was it's own new chip but was still based off the 6xx series i believe. maxwell would be the gen previous to pascal.

the 780 ti does still receive performance boosts with the latest drivers but is ultimately not as efficient as the newer maxwell and pascal tier gpu's of which more performance can be extracted.

increase your budget to cover a 1060 or rx 480 (preferred)

if i was you i would save up or wait for a deal on a rx470.

big jump from 1050ti to rx470 for not that many euro.

Eh, from what I've read, dual channel makes a small difference, but the price is only $8 if I go dual channel. I may as well for that extra bit of performance.

Get which ever of these is cheaper
rx470
1060

Win 10 is worth it if you can get an entreprise or education key through your uni or something because then you can turn off all the spying features and whatnot.

Otherwise games don't really take advantage of it anyway.

How do I build a RX 470 system under 600 you faggots

I don't think spending more than 210 euros for a 1060 is cheap, my cousin got a 1060 for less than $200

Is it worth it to upgrade from my 280x already? I barely even touch my pc anymore.

Is this a meme? The rx 470 is like $160 and the gtx 1060 is $190 the rx 480 is the same price as the 1060

pricing is shitty in general in europe but nvidia tends to have better deals as do all big companies. nothing unsual about it. amd must not be in a position to keep having sales across both america and the european continent. i know amd are in quite a bit of debt (like 1 billion) and they need every penny they can get.

I upgraded from a 280x to a 1060 to hold me over until next year when I'm going to get a 1080ti. The 1060 is a pretty sizeable upgrade. I get noticeably better performance in virtually everything for 200 bucks.

That being said, if you don't even use your GPU anymore, why bother?

Ah shit, feel bad for you guys.

How much is the 1060 there?

Wait for vega and Volta or at least pascal refresh

Alternatively buy a used r9 380 for $100

>wait for things that will never come
sure buddy

Just like I waited for Mantle.

over $200 euros at minimum for the 3gb models.

uk is a bit cheaper with the 1060 3gb falling into rx 470 pricing.

Shieet

Logicalincrements you lazycuck

i got a refurb gtx 980 from microcenter for 190 bucks. what a feel

get a used 970

or just get the new 6gb 1060. its a good card

It's not.

Good cards start at 1070.

that would be too expensive based on his budget. there's honestly nothing wrong with a 1050 ti. it's more or less 960 performance and the 960 was a very popular 1080p gpu. i think it's still the 2nd most used gpu globally in the steam hardware survey. the pascal gpu's also overclock pretty well so he can get an extra 10% boost if he really wanted some extra free performance.

A 6 gig 1060 is only 30 bucks more than the 3 gig

With the greatest of ease

pcpartpicker.com/list/8nKRnn

>$
they are the same in the euro zone thanks to fucking shit economy
so you get which ever is cheaper since they preform exactly the same real world

if you get rid of that overpriced ssd and use a 1tb hdd instead for 50 bucks you can use that extra 30 bucks to contribute towards an rx 480 4gb and it comes out to exactly $600 after the $10 rebate.

Rx470 or 480

There is no fucking reason you should get anything else in that price range. You can't beat the rx470 value. 480 is fucling VR ready also.

>rx 470 preforms the same as a gtx 1060

The rx 480 can't even beat the 1060. What are you yapping about?

get a $150 card or a $600 card
everything else is pointless

>Not going for that sweet, sweet middle ground
Why? The 1070 is more than fine and the 1060's pretty good too.

The 1070 is $350 (€330) and the 1060 6 gig is $242 (€230) for only a hundred bucks difference, you're getting double performance.

1060 cost 350 fucking euros. When a 470 cost 210 euros.

Yes it fucking does better. Not 100 euros better.

>1060 cost 350 fucking euros

u wot m8

mindfactory.de/product_info.php/6GB-ZOTAC-GeForce-GTX-1060-Mini-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x16--Retail-_1114013.html

this is 6gb model too

Holy shit, for a price of your 1060 I can get a 1070 + game

That's not how Europoor works. If it cost 200 in Merida it cost 200 euros plus 40 euro VAT.

How does 980 fare nowadays?

i went with the rx 480 recently

newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137032

Put it in your cart and go to pay....I'll wait kek

pretty good. i bought a slightly faulty one off ebay for much cheaper than the retail price. it had an issue at reaching the factory overclock (it is a very heavily oc 980) and it would black screen at over 1410 mhz but even with my 50 mhz downclock it still runs every game i throw at it like a dream.

i could rma it since it still has a 3 year warranty but i'm satisfied with the performance i'm getting considering i got it so cheap. i'm just too lazy to do the postage and packaging and waiting 2 weeks for them to fix and return it.

I got a rx480 for 240 euros in Finland including all cost such as VAT and shipping.

1050 is shit.

RX 470 is competitively priced and blows it out of the water.

i don't need one though

The 1070 is between 400 and 460 euros.

WHY WOULD ANYONE BUY ANYTHING OTHER THAN A 470 OR 480 IF YOU ARE BUYING MID TIER CARDS?

You go jew Vida when you have cash to burn for high end cards.

Just beyond fucking retarded to go Nvidia if you want a budget card.

Niggers don't know about AMD FineWine.

>$70 240gb SSD
>overpriced

if you have bothered to read the thread, not everyone gets amd cards for cheaper. sometimes nvidia is cheaper and those nvidia cards fit into their budget, like the 1050 ti in op's case. the 470 is nearly 30-40 euro more.

gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1050-Ti-vs-AMD-RX-470/3649vs3640

Well the 470 outperforms it by miles and you only pay a bit more.

It's honestly never a good idea getting a previous gen Nvidia card. Especially if you plan to use that card for the next 4 years.

Yeah but in pounds and euros many places simply flip the dollar sign and even add tax on top of that markup.

>you only pay a bit more

did you bother to even read what i wrote? i'll say it again:

>sometimes nvidia is cheaper and those nvidia cards fit into their budget, like the 1050 ti in op's case. the 470 is nearly 30-40 euro more.

a budget is a budget.

only if you're retarded enough to buy a stock nvidia gpu. all the aftermarket vendor gpu's with even moderate overclocks are still competitive today. duderandom84 has videos comparing his old asus 780 ti with asus 970, 1060 and 480 and in most games it just as good as those in modern games despite stock benchmarks showing the 780 ti to be slower than even a 960.

the same goes for the 970 and 390. at stock the 970 loses by big margins to the 390 however any midrange aftermarket 970 like the asus strix one can match or even beat the gtx 1060. again my source is duderandom84 and also joker productions.

i have a 970 and i wish i got the 980

the 0.5gb of vram fucks with alot of games from witcher 3 to deus ex

dont do it

you're a fucking dumb bastard then. sorry about that. 1060 6gb is more than plenty for most plebs with a 1080p monitor.

love my 980

>the 0.5gb of vram fucks with alot of games from witcher 3 to deus ex

proof?

How did this meme stick so hard.

It was one generation. The 700s fell behind the 900s, but that was partially fixed through driver updates, partially just being an older architecture. AMD's 200 series got a huge boost only because they finally got their shit together in terms of drivers. Their shit can not get any more together so it's unlikely it'll happen again. If anything, they're falling prey to the same issues nvidia had as there's sometimes a massive in gulf in performance between the 390 and 480 even though they should perform similarly.

They killed the 780ti with drivers once the 900 series came out, being absolutely shit compared to the 970
Really sad

I'm going to get a I5 4460 soon and a 1060 3GB sometime later down the road. How efficient will the integrated HD 4600 graphics run games? I'm assuming New Vegas and Skyrim can at least reach 30fps on high and maybe Saints Row 4 on medium.

Chill fag I'm just looking at advice. Like whether I should go for a i3 CPU or save for an i5-66xx, then use an old 2.5" from a laptop as a Hdd.

Thanks nigga, would a CPU cooler be necessary on something like that? I haven't built a pc so I have nothing besides HDDs around.

What's a decent upgrade from an i7 4790K and a GTX 980? I wanna go 4K but too scared that my current set-up isn't enough :(

youtube.com/watch?v=_ugW_iwVfZo
it's actually two generations now (plus three if you count how the 600 series is fairing against southern islands)

thing is, nvidia doesn't have much of an excuse this time around. maxwell and pascal are almost identical architectures.

>tfw i5-4670K and r9 290

I still don't even know if it's worth upgrading at this point, and while I know more than the random pleb, I'm a babby when it comes to motherboard shit or when it's time to buy into a new "architecture".

The 4670K isn't going to be a bottleneck on any new card, right? The motherboard is the only piece I'm wary about replacing due to how much shit has to come out when it does.

For a 1080p gaming I intend to keep for at least a couple years should I just get a 480, break for a 1070 or wait for the 490?

Getting it mostly for new Doom/Wolnenstein and some other stuff my current card can't run well.
