melia's AI
actually, everybody's AI
Gamestop still has the price artificially inflated at $50
three person limit on partys
hideous character models

WHAT A BUNCH OF ______.
JOEKAHS
I'M REALLY FEELING __.
Can't trade more than one item at a time.
Horrible menu all around.
Armour often looks hideous, worse if mixing sets.
NPCs are all Reyn's height, making him not tall but all other playable characters into manlets.
Quests are mostly fetch shit, give nothing special as reward and change almost nothing related to main quest.
If you kill Unique Monsters, a number of monsters or collect some items before respective related quests, they don't automatically complete themselves.
Heart-to-Hearts demand too much affinity for their locations in-game, worse for the "heart" leveled ones rendered null in utility.
Game didn't have the balls to kill Shulk.
Game didn't put Egil into your party, or his sister as originally planned (thankfully). Nor Gadolt, also originally planned.
Clichés: "if you kill him you're just like him!".
Characters are unbalanced.
Last dungeon is boring.
Dunban's arm is never healed.
The 3 hour slog with no saving before the final boss.
Took me ages to kill the final dude because I couldn't go back and grind.
it's an Attack on Titan ripoff plotwise, according to some random nintendrone autist.
This is only true for Melia and Shulk's AI. The others are at least somewhat competent at supporting you as long as you pick their arts carefully. AI Reyn is actually pretty good at tanking, AI Sharla and Riki do healbotting/support decently, and Dunban/Fiora also do ok.
This is purely your fault for being retarded if you didn't save after Dunban warns you about the point of no return.
Though I will admit that it's fucking stupid that Zanza gains a level mid fight without the game telling you. Having to redo two bosses because you're suddenly one level below what you need to not have red tag penalties is fucking retarded.
>mfw sniping a copy for $10
based nintendo price rigging
Grinding affinity is stupid.
It's a little too easy.
Item orbs are a fucking retarded mechanic that make this game an absolute chore to 100% even when you do look up where to find shit and who trades what.
Also affinity and skill points are acquired too slowly, forcing you to grind to max them even after doing literally everything that isn't a superboss.
The plot is not very good. I can't remember much outside of Shulk was actually dead the whole time, Zanza is the best guy, and Dickson betrays you.
Are there any video games with a story that's at least as good or better than this game?
>The plot is not very good.
As compared to what?
t. contrarian,
please leave the discussion to people that actually played the game
>Find a flaw.- 22 posts and 4 image replies shown.
Melia's AI
>mfw bought for $100 three months before they announced re-release for 3ds
I got cucked for $70 from those assholes.
>Go to Gamestop
>Ask the guy if they have Xenoblade Chronicles
>Says they're not sure and they probably don't
>They actually have a copy
>Rings it up
>$70
>MFW
It doesn't have to be compared to anything, but by all means tell me what was so good about the plot.
Plot Pacing.
Lore and mythos fit the setting, storytelling is actually interesting.
Characters.
the way they put it together was great compared to any JRPG.
I'm even playing through FF7 which is considered a masterpiece and still find them both to be equally good JRPGs
Dunban isn't the main character
The price.
> Sharla is useless
> Horrible segments like Ether Mines
> Too many battles where you're forced to lose/can't hurt the boss
> Heart-To-Hearts
> Gem Crafting is RNG
> Equipment menu is horrid
> HD Texture Pack gives up halfway through
> Bionis Shoulder never finished
> Foreshadowed Dickson's betrayals in Satori Marsh for no reason
> NPC in Colony 9 tells you her father was named More, spoiler the whole face Mechon plot
> Guest party members don't stay around long enough
> Juju
I said tell me what was so good about it; not generically list things you liked. You're suppose to explain, you stupid motherfucker.
>Zanza is the best guy
You have ten seconds to post your favorite song from this game.
the story direction? wtf do you want me to list, I like Shulk's hair or what?
fucking kids on this board and their contrarianity so damn edgy
The writing is terrible.
>youtube.com
>tfw it got into smash
...
Sharla isn't useless, just very situational because actually dangerous statuses are so rare. Enemy DoTs are actually pretty dangerous the few times they exist.
Also, Gem crafting is actually pretty consistent if you do it right. You have to isolate the effect you want, get it as close to being a gem as possible without actually crossing the line, and then use Reyn and Shulk to get consistent super heat.
I also never had issues with the equipment menu.
Inventory system needs work. Otherwise it's great.
The combat is unfun, just like FFXII's.
I persevered until the snow level before i had to give up.
>it gets ruined because 2 minute for fun fights
>NPCs are all Reyn's height, making him not tall but all other playable characters into manlets.
This is actually the stupidest complaint I've ever heard, and I don't say that lightly.
>not playing stocks with friends
the song is still butchered
Damage Sharla is actually extremely strong lategame. Just stack a bunch of electric plus gems, link aura extenders, use drive boost and spam thunder bullet. Only real problem is that she sucks in chain attacks.
>Clichés: "if you kill him you're just like him!"
Did you just pull this out of your ass? The only scene you could be referring to is where shulk defends mumkhar, but that isn't the reason he does it. Revenge is a major theme in the game, and shulk realizes that killing people isn't the same thing as killing mindless machines. Not saying it's a great scene, but your "criticism" is way off base.
>Characters are unbalanced
Also a really shitty complaint, since the characters actually are relatively well balanced. They're all reasonably powerful and do their job well
>If you kill Unique Monsters, a number of monsters or collect some items before respective related quests, they don't automatically complete themselves.
Name at least three games that auto complete monster hunting quests upon accepting them if you killed the monsters beforehand.
Damage Sharla is Ok, but not the best use for her. That setup doesn't really work with the AI, and controlling Sharla means not controling Melia/Fiora/Dunban for best DPS, or Shulk for best survivability as well as great DPS. Most of Sharla's use for me was either healbotting for things with obnoxious spikes early on, or using Cure Round to not instantly die to fortress Mechon flamethrowers because DoTs are absolutely insane in this game. She's also important for making the ether party actually work because otherwise Melia and Riki will die because Melia is made of glass and Riki is bad at tanking.
>controlling Sharla means not controling Melia/Fiora/Dunban
What? The dunban AI is fine unless you want to use thunder. Fiora AI is fine as well as long as you remove most of her skills and just have her sit there an autoattack. I doubt it's much of a damage increase controlling either of them vs. letting the AI handle it.
>not the best use for her
Better than having her overheal everyone constantly.
Can all of you please tell me what games you think have better stories than this game by comparison instead of just accusing it of being shit without any proof except for pointing fingers at shit?
xenogears
xenosaga
They certainly come close but they're not as good.
Never played those games.
blade is better than both.
you can argue saga but no way blade has a better story than gears
overall yeah but story wise? no
You can only say that if you've only played one of the two games. Gears is blown out by Blade.
Do people just like these two because muh philosophy of religion?
Alright lads, I have only played a handful of JRPGs.
Is this game ok for a pleb?
Would you mind explaining further before this thread devolves into speculating your points?
Of course. As long as you've played a couple Final Fantasies, this game should work as a decent middleground between W and J RPGs.
It's not overly complicated or anything like that, and the difficulty is fairly reasonable. This isn't like Resonance of Fate, you'll know what you're doing.
because the world building, lore, character development, and twists are on point
xenoblade barely has world building, in the beginning cutscene, once with ether with melia/sharla, after egil, and the ending. that's it.
Lore is very limited in xenoblade too, pretty much only the ancient high entia and giants
character development is good but not as in depth as gears or saga
the twists are on point though
The AI in general tends to spam arts, which means a lot less dps and self healing off of Fiora's double attacks = crits skill combined with Dunbans crits heal you skill. You can remove arts for this, but it doesn't really help if you leave enough to make chains be good.
Sharla isn't bad, she's just fairly situational. In situations where her abilities are useful she's easily the most useful party member, but otherwise she tends to be outclassed because you usually don't need more healing than what Riki and Shulk provide.
Feels like it was written for small children. Characters are half-dimensional, speak exclusively in cliches.
Eh, there's more than giants and high entia. There's also machina, homs and nopon.
There's probably not as much lore as there is in other games like Xenoblade X, but there is some.
>speak exclusively in cliches.
You sure you're not just thinking of Lin and Tatsu from Xenoblade X? I don't recall any characters in Xenoblade Chronicles speaking exclusively in cliches. They had them, but I found them to be more than just muh nado, heropon and Gadolt.
>Resonance of Fate
Some fights I would absolutely decimate enemies and then others I just get stomped.
Definitely an interesting game nonetheless.

I've had it in my backlog all these years and still haven't attempted it yet. I'm too intimidated. I heard it was very complicated and hard to learn.
and? story isn't affected in disc 2, have you even played it?
I've played VI, VII, X and XII for Final Fantasy and Persona 3.
I'm told this is an "improved" version of XII.
Wasn't Xenogears made entirely out of Super Robot anime tropes?

The problem is the lack of feedback it gives you, like I said some fights I felt like I had full mastery of the combat system then others I just got destroyed.
It's pretty fun though and the soundtrack is good. If you do decide to play it I definitely recommend some sort of guide though.
on a superficial level yes, the gears serve little in terms of story though
I haven't played 10, 12 or any Atlus games, so I've got no idea. All I know is that I really loved Xenoblade.
It's 12 if it was good

What's a good anime for me, who doesn't want to watch anime?
Dragon Ball Z
Boku no pico
Not happening. You can't watch Dragonball Z unless you grew up with it, and I didn't.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Already watched and loved it. Still don't know how to feel about how all they did was just adapt the manga and nothing else.
It's basically an anime for people who don't like anime. It's not about slice of life or idols or anything like that. Well suit yourself.
Maybe try One Punch Man or Yu Yu Hakusho.
>Thread about Xenoblade
>Devolves into anime talk
What went wrong?
Because Xenogears is anime.
Space Dandy.
But I'm instinctually afraid of playing/watching new things, and I'm also incredibly lazy.
>What went wrong?
This retard and the people who humoured him.
Maybe watch a few clips from these shows and see what you think. That's what I do. If I hate it instantly, I skip it.
I did that with Naruto. It was cringe from the moment I first watched, and decided it wasn't for me. Basically, don't force yourself to watch from start to finish, get a taste and see what you think.
Why aren't they on plebbit?
>not pirating it
best 0$ I've ever spent
the game fallls off after Prison Island I and never recovers
>the game fallls off after Prison Island I and never recovers
Just because you stop there doesn't mean it doesn't kick into overdrive after Prison Island I.
>Game didn't have the balls to kill Shulk.
Oh fuck off, almost every single JRPG ends with the main character dying in some way, it's nice to not have that for once.
If anything, the game had the balls to NOT do a cliche'd messiah ending.
REYN TIME REYN TIME REYN TIME
I do understand what they were trying to do - giving the attacks sound cues means you could follow up with the appropriate attack for a combo. However, since NPCs just spam their skills constantly (that's the way you want to do it) then every fight just became a constant noise storm of everyone shouting their attacks all together. It was like listening to five episodes of DBZ all at once.
That, and crafting just wasn't interesting at all to me.
Those are really my only complaints about the game. It was a lot of fun, and I loved what they did differently with the game.
How to tell someone didn't finish the game, post Prison Island is based.
