So I just got Odin Sphere, any tips for beginners?
Should I use my Phozon to level up skills or plant seeds

i'd go with leveling up skills
considering they give you attack/pp bonuses as well as more damage for the skill itself
you can get level ups from making food or buying it in the pooka village

I want to FUCK Gwendolyn, if you sniff my drift.

Skills, I mostly aim to max passive first. Unless you really need a health item.

Mostly skills.
Only grow food when you're about to pig out at the travelling merchant.
If you want to munchkin, pop a yogurt before you pig out.
Most recipes are material + 1-3 mandragore.
There's also, + 1-3 misc (bones, eaten fruit cores), + 1-3 seeds, and + 1-3 equipment.

There is also some less intuitive ones. (Using warmers and cooling potions for volcano & blizzard iirc).

Spells are pretty strong as gwen.

Should I play this on hard?
I've played through most of Valkyrie and it hasn't been very challenging, but I don't want to get raped.

The game does get harder on its own in the later chapters, so maybe try Cornelius story out first?
Or just change it, I think you can change it back anytime if it is too hard.

You unlock other characters after beating the current character you have, 5 characters total. You start with only Gwendolyn, but after you beat her story you unlock the next character, and so on until the end. You can also go back and replay other characters if you wish.

I assumed that the game scaled by each individual story, not all of them.

Sorry for the snark.The difficulty mostly comes from the layout of the levels you get, but Gwen's is definitely the easiest. Most people struggle with Cornelius because you start out in the Underworld without many items and you have been used to Gwen's real straight forward moveset and fully leveled.

Mercedes also plays really differently and takes a bit to get used to. But with the streamlined (and much improved) combat settings of the remaster it's not particularly hard once you start pulling out the animu shit

The main problem I have it that, even with the custom inputs, there aren't really enough. The special commands don't feel too accurate either.

They really screwed the pooch on this part. I'm pretty good at fightans but I would often get botched inputs with things like 236 and 41236. I don't know how that happened.

Gwendolyn > Cornelius > Mercedes > Oswald > Velvet

What? The characters in OS actually feel different, while the two vanilla muramasa characters are identical to the point of sharing swords.

Combos change a bit but it's moslty the same, only the skills really change stuff. Except for Mercedes obviously.
Each campaign take as long to finish as Muramasa so it doesn't help making it feel less tedious.
I still loved it and I still play it just for fun, I just hope the next game will fix that

Try the muramasa dlc when you can, the dlc characters feel different enough and their campaigns are short for the first endings.

Last sale had the game + DLC on sale but not just the DLC

Yeah I remember that, to give you an idea of how short the dlcs are, each one is 3 bosses long (intro, mid, final) but the lengthy part comes in when you want to get their second endings.

Most leveling will be done with cooking, not with the raw fruits. So I'd reserve it for skills and only plant when you need something for a recipe.

It's pretty hard to stop her lava pillar attack with some characters, quite honestly the best way to deal with them is just alchemy spam them to death, if they even get one pillar up it'll force you to go on the defensive, waste time and stop you from getting S.

I'm fairly certain Mercedes has a skill that speeds up her reloads, but I also constantly ended up firing in the opposite direction to where I wanted to a lot of the time.

That's mostly because it's a remaster so it came out a while ago, which is what everyone thought as well so they forgot about it

Anyone else get burnt out by the time they got to Oswald? I took a long break from the game because going through the same levels and bosses got tedious.
With the exception of the cauldron, the armageddon bosses were fun as fuck.
