I'm getting a GTX 1080 tomorrow and I want to try it out with a new game or two with decent graphics. What should I get? I've been thinking about Hitman and Watch Dogs 2.
I'm getting a GTX 1080 tomorrow and I want to try it out with a new game or two with decent graphics. What should I get...
Hitman doesn't have great graphics. it has great lighting but that's about it.
Great lighting sounds cool though. I don't need the best graphics ever, just something that looks alright.
If it's just graphics you care about, RotTR looked really nice.
Also you can downsample TW3 from 4k for a surprising boost in quality.
Homefront has the best graphics for an open world but its trash.
Doom has the best graphics, but its a corridor fps.
Battlefield 1 has good graphics (some photogrammetry), but every thing is baked.
I bought that a few weeks ago, but thanks for the tip.
And no, I just want a new game that's not a tiny low poly or 2D indie game.
Mad Max at 4k looks amazing
Hitman has sharp and clean graphics and looks a hell of a lot better than most other new over-postprocessed games imho
>I bought a new Nvdia® GTX™
>Recommend me some games
No vanilla game can really give you want you want except for maybe 1-2 and you would have to actually enjoy the game
To truly make use of strong cards you need high resolution monitors and use mods to push the graphics like ENB or if not supported then some reshade. Other mods that insert custom higher resolution textures or remove barriers like view distance and shit like that.
Otherwise you might as well stuck to 1080 60 fps gaming
This, the game is gorgeous.
>sharp and clean
It's not sharp and definitely not clean in this image. The barcode might as well be a smudge.
>overpriced nVidia GPU on a chink garbage card
>I want to try it out with a console port
The hell WHY?
What's the point of this?
gta v
witcher 3
doom
there will be plenty of memers, but nothing looks better than witcher.
OP- why? 1080Ti announcement coming at CES in like a week. 1080 prices will drop by at least $100...
>console port
>console port
>console port
Try Crysis 1 instead.
Thanks!
Is it fun though? It's very cheap on Steam.
That does look beautiful.
I have a 1440 display and also need a good graphics card for work (doing video editing and 3d animation). I got it cheap and now I want to see if I can play some new games on it too.
>there will be plenty of memers, but nothing looks better than witcher.
ah
e-errr w-witcher 3 i-i guess?
Alrightt, please recommend something better then.
Had to order it yesterday because I got a deal through my company.
Dishonored 2
I just played through Dead Rising 3 for the first time on PC, I thought it was one of the best looking games I've played in quite awhile.
>spending all that dosh on poorly optimized console ports
...
>Alrightt, please recommend something better then.
There IS nothing on PC worth a $500 GPU. Star Citizen won't come out until 2020.
You'll be able to play everything at 60fps at 1440p. I also have a 1440p monitor but with a 1070 and can max out most things so you should def have no problem
What I was talking about is that there will be people who will tell you "Oh man if you want to really try out your card you should play THIS" and it'll be an alright looking game but your card will max it out at 60fps with no problem and you won't actually be using your card to its fullest. You have access to graphics beyond HIGH ULTRA or whatever the highest tier of graphics games provide. I was under the impression you wanted the best possible setup and graphics for the games that you play not just casually playing whatever.
You can max out wither 3 and be impressed by it but if you decide you want some real graphics you have to mod to truly get master race tier graphics. Plebs are so used to consoles that they assume witcher 3 on ultra is the pinnacle of graphics.
doesn';t matter. the pc version has far and away better graphics than the console counterpart. jackass. just bc it's a port doesn't mean it can't have gpood graphics. loser
>You'll be able to play everything
Nope.
Only shit nVidia pays for (and gimps it in the process)
what?
You don't sound like you actually need 1080.
He's a retard.
Not for gaming, no. I do video editing and 3D animation too.
Alright, that sounds great. I was looking at some benchmarks earlier and I was under the impression you'd need two 1080 to get 60 fps at 1440p with everything on ultra for some games.
What's that game where you go through hell possessing demons to get through?
There is a demo out that looks amazing to try a graphics card on
Get Doom. You won't regret it.
I got a rx480 that plays everything on high or ultra.
For what purpose is the 500 dollar card for?
What bench marks were you looking at?
No way any bench mark would tell you you would to SLI 1080's to play 1440p. Maybe you are mistaking 1440p for 4k? even then a 1080 can get like 40-50 fps at 4k so that is the only instance you would want to get 2 but most games don't even support SLI and getting two cards is a meme.
Doom? Insanely optimized you'll be getting like 200 fps.
vr
So will an i7 6700k and GTX 1080 be enough for 4k at decent settings? Or should I wait for the next big memecard?
For resolution
and he stated he does work that involves his card and that he got the card on sale through his job.
No not doom. It's not out yet but a demo is out. It supports VR also
You can play VR on a rx480 that cost around 200.
>Not for gaming, no. I do video editing and 3D animation too.
A Geforce 1080 is useless for that.
Yes you need at minimum a 1080 for 4k. You won't be able to max out high end games but you'll just have to move down a peg like high and you'll be silky smooth. Check bench marks for a few games you specifically intend to play to make sure but most benchmarks I've seen have 1080 running like around 40 FPS at 4k on high end games but I think at like high or ultra settings.
Ok resonable point.
>does work that involves his card
So he is a game developer?
Yeah, a lot of people are suggesting Doom. I like fast FPS games so I'll try that. Thanks.
I looked it up and you're right - I was looking at a benchmark where Hitman at max settings in 1440p would drop to 54 fps at the lowest.
Yeah, this. The 8GB will help a lot when rendering big scenes on the GPU.
It's called Agony.
It looks fucking amazing.
GPUs are nowadays used for a lot of research/analysis tasks (this was virtually unheard of 10 years ago, when the CPU was king).
>GPUs are nowadays used for a lot of research/analysis tasks
But Geforce GPUs are fucking useless for that.
Arma 3 Apex
I'll be using it with After Effects, Premiere, Maya, 3Ds Max, Cinema 4D, Vray, Vray RT and Octane as well as gaming when I finish my work day.
I guess a Quadro card would be better for some tasks but I doubt the 1080 will be useless. Also, I got a good deal and a 8GB or bigger card would be very expensive.
Not true. You're probably remembering how AMD cards were better for bitcoin mining because they were cheaper and more energy efficient than Nvidia cards. This hasn't been the case for at least a year though.
Right now, if you need a GPU for your local desktop (i.e. not some cloud supercomputer) for research purposes, you'll probably get 1080s.
Doom 2016 runs very well in 4k60 with Vulkan on my GTX1080.
If you don't have a 4k screen I think the 1080 will be massively overkill most of the time, unless you want to play in 144Hz or something. If you haven't played them already you could give Just Cause 3 a try, I thought it looked pretty great even though the game was a disappointment overall.
>Not waiting for the 1080Ti
Da fuqs wrong with you?
Waiting is for poor people
>falling for the infinite loop why didn't you wait for x meme
You barely missed out on free Watch_Dogs 2 for getting a 1070/1080
RE7 seems to have a high amount of photogrammetry.
Why even make a thread for this? just go play last year's triple A games.
If you would have read the thread you'd know.
Can workstation cards play the latest games in 4k at 60 fps+?
Witcher 3
I think so but it would be dumb to do so
I think linus put out a video where he tested a 1080 and like some 5k usd work card and the workstation card only marginally did better in most things but at like 10 time the cost. IF you have a workstation card because you need it and you're wondering if you'll be able to play 4k at 60fps+ then no. Not all games at least because the 1080 can't.
I mean the question is pretty broad as it will be able to 4k 60fps most games but thats because they aren't demanding to begin with. You can't get 60fps on high end games unless you go to high or medium right now on 4k. Though I mean it really depends on the game.
terraria, later this year (next year) bannerlord
ez
RotTR can look pretty nice
Witcher 3 too
DOOM
No, you're not going to get more gaming performance out of a "workstation" card than the fastest gaming version.
>nvidia
>Watch Dogs 2
>Hitman
top kek
>building high-end PCs to play console games
What. the. fuck.
>TFW Nvidia jewed out and didn't let us ski 1060
>TFW they knew dual 1060 would rival titan pascal
>TFW nvidia cards get our dated after 3 years
>TFW AMD let's you crossfire any card with ease
>TFW amd constantly release legacy drivers even for cards from 2010
what
is saying is that Nvidia tends to gimp their own GPUs from time to time via driver updates in order to sell their new GPUs.
I think both companies have done this though, however I haven't heard of this happening in a long while since everyone freaked out the last time Nvidia pulled some shit
Metro Last Light
SLI 1060 would be a shit idea anyway. Buying multiple midrange cards has always been a bad idea.
Hitman is CPU intensive
I only got an AMD gpu one time, and during that one time period of 2-3 years that card AND its replacement both died.
I have yet to ever have an Nvidia GPU die on me.
Enjoy your future gaming impotence.
>nvidia card top of the chart
Must be hard being an AMD fanboy nowadays. Do you just pretend it's not there or what?
what else is there
I'm not fond of nvidia getting the monopoly it has but in the high end there's simply no competition. If you want to go beyond 1080p60 AMD simply doesn't have anything worthwhile.
Except you're wrong. Ya the p6000 is almost $5000 and obviously isn't worth it for gaming, but it still out performs the Titan X in gaming
...
try batman arkham knight in 4k
close ups of catwomans cameltoe in 90s skin
Shadow Warrior 2
> fucking EMPEROR 200
> those sound systems
I'm not defending it, but this is too autistic for usual PCfag.
>buy high end grafix card
>only use it to play garbage
>96gb ram instead of 128gb
fucking dropped
> 380 000$ sound system
...
I think you're supposed to buy a new GPU first AFTER there are games you want to play that require it
D44M and Titanfall 2, D44M especially runs fucking great at a constant 165fps even at 1440p.
I wish I could feel like this about anything.
I think he's expressing physical pain.
My friend uses SLI 780s and a recent driver update fixed stuttering issues on Skyrim SE so I doubt they would keep trying to do that anymore
They released a motherboard more expensive than my Godlike Gaming Carbon?
Huh, never knew.
Not much else you can do on PC.
You could try reading the thread before posting.
>buying a HOTAS and no pedals (racing pedals are shit for flight sims if they work at all)
>Watch Dogs 2
You should kill yourself
How can a video game upset you so much?
>Recommending ENB and Reshade
