whats a psx?

emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/PlayStation_emulators

I always use epsxe but im gonna try mednafen right now out of interest

EPSXE has a much better GUI than MEDNAFEN/Retroach. If it weren't for that EPSXE would be completely obsolete.

mednafen if you want accuracy. use this if you are playing on a CRT display

epsxe if you want things to look good on modern hardware

I give up
too much a hastle
i'm stucking with epsxe

Neither. PCSXR.

It's a PS2 with a video recorder. American idiots think that the first PlayStation is called PSX, and will deny any evidence saying otherwise, so OP probably refers to the PS1.

>epsxe if you want things to look good on modern hardware
Doesn't MEDNAFEN have an hardware rendered now which makes EPSXE obsolete even for muh HD?

Try using it via Retroarch, it has a GUI. A shit one but better than using CLI.

none of my roms are in the right format

Go on emugen and ask them for a magnet of the "redump" rips, chances are your roms are garbage.

Which one gets rid of the wavy lines, has widescreen hack, and overclocks the games to run at 60fps?

>Retroarch
it's like you want him to have a terrible experience

The Playstation was initially going to be called the "Playstation X" or "PSX" for short in North America, since Sony thought the X would make it sound "cool" to the kids/young teens.

For this reason it was referred to as such in all the media and by games companies for around an entire year before launch. The name was used to much in North America that the first issue of Official Playstation Magazine for the USA even had the caption "Formerly PSX" on the cover.

Many people continued to call it the "PSX" even after launch.

Still better than using CLI.

This. It's still being supported

no, crashing garbage with input lag is not better than CLI.

You do realize that you'll only be playing a fast-forwarded game, right?

Unless the person who made the hack knows what theyre doing

Oh please, the main reason for using Retroarch is not dealing with input lag.

...

If you have a decent CPU: use Mednafen for 2D games and Mednafen-HW (Beetle) or 3D games.
If you don't: use PCSX-R.
Don't bother with ePSXe.

PCSXR is a fucking piece of shit.

see

Man, that Ghost in the Shell game was fun, but I was pretty disappointed when I found out that only a Fuchikoma was playable. The freedom of movement on the walls was really cool though.

PCSX-R is a clusterfuck. It's so horrendous, it actually has framedrops in games that didn't even happen on original hardware. Somebody made a comparison on the Spyro games on /emugen/ a while back between PCSX-R, Mednafen and ePSXe. PCSX-R had those framedrops that none of the other two did.

If you are a tech illiterate retard who can't do anything without pretty smarphone buttons with smiley faces then use ZNES I mean EPSXE

If you have half a brain and care about your emulator working accurately then use Mednafen

>Try to use Beetle
>Have the correct BIOS files and game files
>RA immediately crashes when I launch a game
Great fucking piece of software you have there.

Retroarch, just like every all-in-one software is a piece of shit

I just wish there was a way to use Beetle independantly from RA.

What do you need Beetle for?
Don't tell me you overclock your games

I want to increase the internal res for 3D games.
Seriously it's more enjoyable to play something like Gran Turismo 2 when you can actually see shit.

I couldn't find a way on mednafen to fast forward, which is important for final fantasy games to not be a slog at times.

mednafen.fobby.net/documentation/
Ctrl+F "fast-forward"
It's there.

mednafen.fobby.net/documentation/#Section_key_assignments

it's the ` key

I also tried to transfer saves after about ten hours in ff8 and couldn't be assed to move them over, so yeah, laziness ig

both are a hassle to use the steam controller with so both lose

Can I use mednafen to do this sort of thing with my PS1 games? Some games of course can't really have anything done with them but it's still fun to mess with and sometimes results can be pretty great.

PSP builded in emulator.

>Using the steamy meme controller

Yeah, just call something a meme instead of reacting propelry to cirticism, that'll show me

The steam controller is literal garbage

Mednafen is more accurate than Sony's own PS1 emulator. It's unequivocally the best in terms of accuracy and that's not some kind of dick measuring contest, it's just facts.

Actual Hardware > Mednafen > PS3/PSP emulator > PS2 BC > EPSXE

EPSXE definitely has cool shit for 3D games that Mednafen didn't originally like playing games at a higher res but I believe Retroarch's Mednafen branch has since absorbed most of EPSXE's enhancements.
Through retroarch yeah. RA has some of if not the best shader/filter support I've seen for emulators.

>all the whining about mednafen itt
Guys just learn how to use Retroarch, it's not that hard.

That's the case with Crash Bandicoot, but those games were made in abnormal ways. I think there's a hack that will overclock normal games to run at real speed in higher frame rate.

>PS3/PSP emulator > PS2 BC
>an outdated emulator is better than a PS1 chip inside of a PS2

I can't make RetroArch boot a game without crashing on the Mednafen core(s).

BC on PS2 had known issues I'm pretty sure? I recall hearing that and never questioned it due to Sony's build quality on PS2 being utter shit at the time.

>Using Retrotrash

Made sure your .cue is pointing to the right .bin file?

Nevermind, fixed it.
Yes all of my files were correct but for some reason RA didn't select the core when launching the game. After manually selecting the core then the CUE it worked.

this

>filters

I can respect people who play in native res but filterfags can get fucked.

I don't fall into the first category, but this is the first i've ever heard of Mednafen. When did this emerge? who made it?

Mednafen.

And before the same retarded argument is posted, there is a GUI for it.

mednafen.fobby.net/

I'm using mednafen and my memory files won't transfer over for ff8, I found them form my epsxe folder and renamed them to the exact name of the bin and changed the file type to srm but it always says no save data when I load it. This is mednafen through retroarch, but it should work either way.

Bump

Try checking if mednafen saved the files in mednafen mode or in PS1 mode. If it's the former congratulations, you'll have to do vodoo shit for converting that memory card in something that can be read by the actual hardware and other emulators.
