4K is dead on PC

I'm starting to feel that 4k will never take off on PC. In all honesty it's been in the waters for a long time. We are two years into 4K Tech and the PC has lost its graphical crown to the PS4 Pro and the upcoming Scorpio console is making it harder for PC to catch up, this is due to a number of reasons.

>screens
Have you see the price of 32" 4K monitors? absolutely fucking insane, they cost more than their TV counterparts.

>Not enough VRAM
If you look at the picture above most PC gamers are still on 1GB, this is nowhere near enough to run games at 4k resolution. in fact the only recommended GPU's for 4K gaming are either a TITAN X or 1080, both of these cards run into hundreds for 45fps or so performance.

>No support for HDR
at this time there is no real support for HDR for games or support from AMD or Nvidia, add the fact the hardware is not even outer there for gamers who want to use monitors, maybe next it might change.

>PC is not about cutting edge graphic / high end resolutions anymore.
I can barely recall a PC only title that pushed the platform. The market is catered towards mid-semi pro market who prefer streaming games and playing with friends, they don't need the greatest and latest to play games.

Overall it comes down to cost and the PC platform is not cutting it any more, if you want to play at 4k resolutions with all the perks then the PS4 pro is the best choice. The market for high end graphics and resolutions on PC seems to be waning Which is a shame, during the 7th generation of gaming if you want to play above 720p you needed a PC, but with the 8th gen it's now cheaper to play 4k on a console than it is on PC which can barely do 1440p.

who fucking cares
4k is a meme reserved for 'enthusiasts' with thousands of dollars to waste
you don't need anything higher than 1920x1080 unless youre spending the majority of your time in games staring at textures

You're still forgetting the PS4 Pro is better value for money at all resolutions.

How could it be better value if it's all just consolekiddie garbage games?

I got a 4k monitor for cheap over black friday and I don't regret it but then again I mostly play older games and don't mind playing on medium settings

and?
games arent about playing at the highest settings and looking pretty, theyre about the fucking games

PC is 99% shitty console ports and moba trash.

>Shitty console ports
>I literally only know games from Sup Forums

>This poor soul does not know the happiness of fighting Operation Barbarossa in Hearts of Iron 3 with the BlackIce mod.

Isn't 4k pretty much for "heavy gamers"? It's just like rich people who purchase expensive stuff to feel good, but they do it for some small improvement in-game for way more cash.

>steam
most of those fags play cs or dota

This fucking idiot pasted this from NeoFag. Let's see if the janitors are smart enough to delete the thread.

>copy pasting shit threads from neogaf

For what purpose?

>shitty boring isometric strategy games

haha

That is because 4k is a meme, a shitty half assed format meant for dummies. Real men are waiting for the REAL deal. Pic related. In the mean time I will continue to use 1080p.

>not waiting for 10K

you're the normie, john.

4k is dead* FIFY

Fuck you for pushing the 4k meme on the PS4 Pro, The hardware is capable enough to push 1080p/60 at PC levels of performance but you fucking sonyfucks gotta push MUH 4k FOAR KAYY IS THE NEW THING GUYS yet games will look like playing a PC game on 4k at low settings and perform like shit as well with framerates under 30fps.

4k is a meme because the difference between even 1080p and 4k is negligible when the screen is viewed from a proper distance.

Which means you are getting virtually no benefit despite a significant increase in cost both for the screen and a high-powered system to play at 4k. The irony is many games that run well at 1080p on high/ultra settings still can't be run at 4k on the same settings. This means you can "upgrade" to 4k at the expense of actually reducing in-game video settings.

Same truth applies whether you're talking about console or PC. The difference is simply not worth it. I'd much rather play at 60-120fps+ on 1080p than at 30-60fps on 4k.

If I could double the pixel-density of my screen for zero cost I would do it, but there's just no way I'm going to drop ~$3,000 to do so.

Not for video games. Flickering is one of the most jarring things to look at and 4k really reduces that.

>we'll cycle back to having a use for calling something 28.8K

Are you hoping that some day the amount of dumbasses answering to your repeated attempts at this will outweigh the people who know a lot more about this than you?
Because that might take a long while.

The most jarring thing to look at is 3D games running at sub-60fps.

>sub 60fps
What you mean is variable framerate.

>consoles are holding games back

>significantly large chunk of gaming pcs are subpar

It's not dead, it's just not truly 'born' yet.

In a few years when current high-end hardware becomes the low-end and most people have 1170s, and 4K monitors cost around $200, you'll see many more people using the resolution. Right now, it's more of an enthusiast thing.

I'm waiting for the 1080ti to finish my 4K setup, and since it'll cost around €700-€800, the total cost will have been about €2600. The monitor alone was €530.

It's prohibitively expensive for many at the moment. Me? I have nothing better to do with my money, but I'll probably regret it later.

2560x1440 hasn't even become standard yet. It's going to take some time but it's not like people are just going to stick with 1080p forever.

1440p 144Hz is better

I won't get 4k until the screens are 40" and high refresh rate and graphics cards can run it easily

>play at 4k resolutions with all the perks then the PS4 pro

kill yourself

that's because its extremely easy to develop for it

Just look at the quality of mobile games and you can understand why
