And this is why i don't take WRPGs seriously.

What are some WRPGs with creative worlds? Besides Fallout or Planescape Torment

Western RPGs are so stagnant but JRPG's characters and writing are all geared towards teenagers.

intelligent, nihilistic and with a wicked sense of humor.

Isn't that the plot of CT and FF IV?

I love them

Morrowind and Deus Ex?

>10/10 anime

Name a JRPG that comes close to PS:T in philosophy or Morrowind in lore or Original Deus Ex in political discussions.

I don't understand how someone can like the fallout setting, it one of the most unaesthetic things i have ever seen.

What

Also all these western games have shit gameplay lol

Also, i know mgs2 is not an jrpg but deus ex is not a RPG either.

this is some serious bait.

Stay enlightened my man

I agree

>FFT

Try playing some actual SRPGs

Schrödinger's cat

yeah but half assed philosophy is much worse than "grr let's kill and get rich" plots and anime taking itself too seriously usually ends up being shitty also

But was the coffee hot or cold, though?

Okay, name one JRPG that is INSPIRED by an anime of any kind. Not a licensed tie in, but inspired by.

>THE IMPERIAL EMPIRE
Had an unintentional chuckle my man, thx.

>Metal Gear Solid 2, FFT
Do they have something like this?

that's why I like it, you are surviving in a world of shit and having fun while doing it

Oh yeah like Disgaea, right?

...

Xenogears -> Evangelion

>inspirations
>10/10 anime
There are literally 0 JRPGs that are inspired by stuff like Utena, Texhnolyze or Patlabor

Evangelion isn't even a heavy inspiration on anything since most JRPGs are still filled with idealistic bright smiles

Whoops autistic brother got on while I wasn't looking meant to say Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo.

I agree with you, you fucking weeb

You will like this, watch it to the end.

...

>we are number one except every we are number one is replaced with senator bernie sanders explaining the ending to neon genesis evangelion

Now your talking

FE pre-awakening dumpsters Tactics
Ogre Battle dumpsters Tactics
Even most Front Mission games dumpster Tactics

It's baby's first grid-based game with baby's first WOW... SO THIS... IS POLITICS??? plot

>Name a JRPG that comes close to Morrowind in lore
Did you forget about Zelda?

>FE pre-awakening dumpsters Tactics
Hahahahaha fuck no. Fire Emblem is as mediocre as you can get.
>Ogre Battle dumpsters Tactics
Debatable, really. They're different games but I really can't say one is straight up better than the other.
>Even most Front Mission games dumpster Tactics
I never played them so I can't really give an opinion on this.

>It's baby's first grid-based game with baby's first WOW... SO THIS... IS POLITICS??? plot
>It's popular so it's bad

>Japanese RPG

Platforms: PlayStation exclusive

>WRPG

Platforms: PC

Does that activate your almonds?

Tales of series is basically anime in game form.
It's why they're all terrible.

>10/10 anime
And that's the problem, JRPG's lean a lot on the anime side and the 10/10 animes you hear about every day like Death Note is 10/10 for people who can't think critically. Which in turn makes JRPG's, at least in modern times, complete and utter shit.

Looks interesting. Dunno about the rest of the game, though.

>Japanese RPG
>Inspirations: Hegel, Buddhism, Nietzsche, Christianity, 10/10 anime.
Clusterfuck of 'cool' things taken out of different mythologies and philosophies without context. And all boils down to killing mutated evil dude demon god thing to save universe. Most of the times involves power of LOVE and FRIENDSHIP channelled trough some healer priest girl.

>WRPG
>Inspirations: D&D.
Classic medieval fantasy. Noone tries to sell you some kind of revelation in form of video game. Just fun and entertainment. The way RPG games supposed to be.

>10/10 anime
???

>that image
Reminds me of how Naruto, a story set in an era where the most advanced form of long-distance communication is traditional written letters carried on foot by courier, somehow also has fucking LIGHT RAIL and battery-powered portable radio communications when the plot demands it.

Give examples or get the fuck out.

>JRPG
Also Zelda Lore is not as interesting as TES Lore.

Pic related

Wasn't there a scene in Naruto where someone used a phone booth to call? If I remember right, then a light rail and portable radio wouldn't be that far off.

>Cowboy bebop
>samurai champloo

Xeno has better lore.

No, that's not my point.
Everyone lives in fucking HUTS.
Communication with the other villages is done entirely through hand-written mail carried on foot.

WHY THE FUCK DO THEY HAVE TRAINS AND PHONES AND TWO-WAY RADIO BUT NOT EVEN TELEGRAPH MACHINES OR MAIL CARS ON TRAINS

>WRPG
>Inspirations: D&D.

Maybe in the stone age, femminism, progressiveness and stronk females are the current year inspiration for WRPG.

I hope Andromeda bombs so fucking hard, holy shit.

dark souls

As someone who's played about half of the series, FE is kinda shit.

Honest question, but what WRPGs have been released recently? The only ones that come to mind are Pillars of Eternity (Baldur's Gate spiritual successor), Tides of Numenera (Planescape Torment spiritual successor), Shadowrun, and Legend of Grimrock. I've had the impression that the reason we don't see more variety in WRPGs is simply because there aren't that many coming out.

What in particular is it inspired by? Xenogears takes cues from Evangelion, but what about DS?

If you're only talking about Xenogears, then no. If you're talking about Xenogears + All Xenosagas, then maybe. I haven't played them.

Berserk you dummy.

YS>Zelda
Anyone that says otherwise is a fag.

...

All of them of course, it's the same universe. Only the "story" of the games are like millenia long epics, now go look at the lore, it's pretty cool shit.

...

Berserk, pic related is but a few references they've but into their games.

Do you recommend that I read "perfect works"?

Dunno, i just played the games and read some of the wiki, don't know about the quality of the books.

The games are a mess. I don't mind reading, but the dialogues (at least in Xenogears) were really long and nonsensical, and the cutscenes were everywhere.

This is accurate. Some JRPG are still worth playing for their gameplay and characters, but don't pretend their story or setting are something other than a load of mismatched bullshit.

Like? Give exemples of mismatched bullshit please. JRPGs don't "mismatch" themes and that's why i like their stories, they take a theme and run with it until the end.

>JRPGs are only the 5 good ones I learned about on Sup Forums
>WRPGs are only Dragon Age and "generalized D&D based game that I cannot actually name"
Loving this meme

>Medieval time setting with robots and guns is consistent
wew

What the fuck you retard? This doesn't have anything to do with themes, that's a setting.

How about we do it the other way. You post the JRPGs that you think you a good story and internally consistent setting and I'll explain why they don't

>my shit is better than your shit thread

SMT If...

>Medieval time setting with robots and guns
I hope that you realize early JRPGs picked those aspects up from early WRPGs, which picked that up from early D&D. D&D had psychic powers and laserguns with the second or third module of the original D&D, and both early Wizardry and early Ultima (not sure about Might & Magic) involved lasers pistols and aliens and spaceships.

You mean final fantasy picked those.

ogre battle is good shout although they are very different but fuck man fe is way worse what the fuck are you thinking

Name a JRPG inspired by Hegel

Nobody plays WRPG for the story anymore. Just "exploration" because lore is for nerds.

Fuck you Bethesda and your shitty writing.

If what?

It's the name of the game, it was a joke because it's not translated.

>Christianity
>Zoroastrism
>MC wants to become a god
All in one game. What internal consistency are we talking about again?
