Story and world is great. Gameplay is horrible

This but the story sucks balls, only the world is good

The story was extremely meh but the source material could be blamed for that. Most of the side quests have characters far more interesting. A lot of what it does is done extremely well and I wish it would become standard in other action rpgs.

They listened to the problems in witcher 1 and witcher 2, and actually went about fixing them in 3. They even have a better attitude about DLC and piracy than most other companies.

But by far the biggest weakness of the game is the combat. It is oversimplified to the point of being even more of a roll/dodge simulator than Witcher 2 was. Which means the combat itself is extremely boring and/or repetitive once you fight this out, even more of a problem in higher difficulties when this is your only option to beat certain high level bosses/units.

But so much else is done so right that this is more extremely irritating and there is plenty else to do.

couldn't stand the dark souls GTAIV fistfighting combat
but what I hated most was that I was forced to play an edgy chad character
and that the polish dub was better
but I couldn't understand what NPCs were saying unless I hovered over their speech bubbles,
even worse being the un subtitled sections.

I feel as though ever game I've bought this past year was a waste of money except for Dirt Rally and skyrim remastered

I go to walmart every day but nothing catches my eye

I'm working 70 hours a week with an hour commute and want something to come home to an relax

because I spend all day at work wishing the clock would tick faster so I could go home
but when I get home I'm just a bored depressed mess pissing away the hours looking for something to do
just fucking take me away to fantasy land jesus fucking christ please

I found it boring. I liked the first one back in the day but just didn't think this had much to it.

Games don't stop being good.

Yes, but Sup Forums will never admit it

I bought it on steam sale and just did the main story while ignoring everything else. It's a really good game, I'm planning on trying death march while doing all the side quests soon.

Probably the best game in the last 5 years, and counting.

The witcher fanchise is shit but eurofags love it cause it's the only game series that caters to squatters

But there's a neptunia game every year

I don't know what it is, but I feel like the game tries too hard on the story and forgot about making it fun.

combat is utter trash. ranged-based attacks = those designers have no idea what they were doing

Yes but Sup Forums will just say no because it's popular

yeah but they release the same game every year

its grand

Ye it's good.

I was starting to enjoy it but then I played Bloodborne and damn. It simply does everything better. Story, characters, lore, plot, world desing, world building, themes, aesthetics, music, and especially the gameplay.

It's simply impossible to see at The Witcher as anything but mediocrity in a universe where Bloodborne completely overshadows it.

It's OK.

Good sidequests, dialogue and so forth
Gameplay, quests included, is fucking shit.

Playing 1 and 2 right now, is this game anything like those in the combat? Because jesus christ I cant deal with this combat system. I respect that they try something different tho
Story and world is nice tho

>Story is great
What about it is great? The generic villain or the mindless hunt for the mary sue?
>World is great
Yeah the empty world that attempt to hide itself by obstructing itself with trees, bushes and other visuals is great. Who knows you might even find yet another deserted town with nothing to do but loot alcohol.

>good game?
No, every piece of interactivity sucks balls.
>good experience?
Yeah

Sounds like you want GTA more then a fantasy setting. Nothing wrong with that just have to admit its not the game for you is all.

What a time to be alive

gameplay is average at best. Intense hand-holding experience.
Storyline and world environment are the bee's knees. Huge standouts compared to most other RPGs

Witcher 3 is about as close to GTA as you can get without actually branding it that, "huge" world with nothing to do and "story" that was tacked on as an addition. You want a real fantasy setting play Oblivion, which is better than Witcher 3 in every conceivable way

post yfw you ride into novigrad for the first time

...

>nothing to do
This is literally and objectively just wrong.

best game of 2015

Its pretty good. i just started blood and wine. Its a lot more engaging then the main story

I was able to enjoy both, strangely.

>Story
I think Witcher 3 has some stories that overshadow Bloodborne, i.e. Bloody Baron, Hearts of Stone, Blood and Wine. There's enough downslope stories that I think they're about equal.

>Characters
Disagree completely. There are obviously characters I hated in Witcher 3 but the ones that I liked are better than anything you find in Bloodborne.

>Lore
>Plot
>World design (I assume)
>World building
I give everything but plot to the Witcher 3. Bloodborne, even based on gothic horror, was more unique though.

>Themes
Depends on the particular plot.

>Music
God, I liked them both so much. They matched their respective worlds so well. Especially the Skellige music.

>Gameplay
Can't argue that one, Bloodborne was better by miles, but not for its dodge/strike/parry combat. The enemies were just far more diverse. Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine made some improvements, but Bloodborne still came out stronger.

I realize it's not a popular opinion around here to like both but I still do.

Blood and Wine multiple endings were idiotic, and I got the good ending twice on the main quest without looking up any guide.

The movement/combat was crap and the world was just too dull for me to want to continue.
I don't know, to me, the world just seemed so... stock and boring.

Wooooo bro, I totes love those random copy pasted POIs!
Feels like Im playing a ubisoft game

>the only thing you can do is explore POIs
well meme'd

Farming abandoned filler villages for alcohol, farming thieves caches for a 1% chance of moderately decent loot and clearing out 10000000000 identical monster nests across the map is the definition of entertainment.

please do explain what the massively empty open world did in helping this game be better?

It's not empty, stop saying that.

And the answer is the open world did nothing. I wish they'd gone with a hubbed structure instead like the previous games. But that hardly makes it a shit game.

...

Witcher plays too safe to be compared to BB. It should be compared to games like Skyrim

I agree with should. Doesn't mean it can't be.

...

...

...

i liked the game a lot. Not sure why everyone has a hard on for gwent though. i found it opretty boring

>is this game still good after the hype has died down

What the fuck has hype to do with game being good ?

>anime weeb garbage
I think you need to go back

Hype goggles enhance the game.

I never understood where everyone gets off saying the combat is horrible. What're you comparing it to? Are you expecting to go in all Metal Gear Rising or some shit?

The only game I can think of, in the same vein as this game but with better combat is Dark Souls/Bloodborne, and that's only because the combat is the main focus of those games. Compairing it to literally anything more appropriate only has W3 come out on top. Skyrim? Fallout? Not even close.

I bought the first two because they were stupid cheap on steam. The first one is nigh unplayable. Wtf kind of gameplay is that? 2-seems pretty interesting, basic combat but it's fun.

Have you considered you're depressed and in need of professional help?

No, the garbage loot system, poor combat mechanics, awful enemy variety, poor main quest and absolutely shit quest design make it a shit game.

Its a good experience but it is a shit game.

You know that a game has nothing remarkable when the fanbase only talks about the tits and waifus

Witcher 3 is basically exactly what we've been missing from WRPGs since Might and Magic went all weird and Baulder's Gate tried being a thing again and failed.

If you liked those games, and their approach to storytelling, world building and character development, you'll fucking love Witcher 3.

I think that's the biggest problem. People going in expecting Dark Souls With Talking.
It's not that.
It's Legend of Zelda with heavy Baulder's Gate flavor.

VTMB is the best game ever made and everybody talks about "muh jeanette" or "muh damsel" so checkmate pleb.

Yes. I'm, really glad I only start playing this after I finished FFXV. Makes me able to enjoy both a bit more.

>movement/combat was crap
They added a movement game option with much less inertial, or did that feel clunky to you too?

>VTMB is the best game ever made

hmmm...

I'm enjoying this and I hated the second Witcher.

Not much left to say when we have the exact same Witcher thread five times a day

Don't respond to combat memers. They can't even give solid 3 examples of games with good combat without mentioning DS/BB, DD and some trash jrpg games, that's it

Why would they need to give examples? Naming the flaws in W3 system do just enough

>Naming the flaws
3/4 ppl saying "combat is shit" like it's literally unplayable. It's decent at best but shit? Repetative? Yes after a while it can be a bit boring but you always can switch style. You can just tell thet are contrarian faggots

for

>Dark Souls/Bloodborne
Yeah it's generally because they are comparing them to that. I think even CDPR felt pressured to stand up to those games. They went to "balance" the combat and remove some OP synergies in the early patches, all before fixing the gamebreaking bugs. It's an offline single-player, mind you.

I think while TW3's combat might not have as much depth, it is certainly functional even in early versions. You need to use X item or Y sign to be effective against Z monster. That felt witchery enough for me.

Not really

>except sky:re

It's outright an insult to videogames as a whole. Hype my arse, it has got ro have been full-on shilling.

>Yes after a while it can be a bit boring but you always can switch style
But that doesn't change anything about the combat because of how fucking shallow the RPG elements are.

Solid 7/10, I'm a big fan of W1 but the series became thrash the moment it wanted to become the next TES or some other AAA shit.

At least it improves slightly over 2.

/opinion you stupid niggers

You can go for alchemy build, fast attack build, heavy build, bomb build, sign build or anything inbetween. Don't blame the game for your lack of imagination...

There's nothing for Sup Forums to discuss because they don't actually play games like this. Have you seen the christmas threads?

>someone gift me (some game)
>here's my shopping cart. I want to buy (five year old game), (pixelshit), and (random two dollar game)
>someone whining about having no money

It's the best game of this generation so far but people on here won't give it any respect since it came out post PS2 era

Maybe he bought it for the first time

>game
storybook

Can you recommend suicide methods? You sound like someone who has done the research.

>game focused on story is bad
>le if you wanna story read a book meme

...

the make up makes her look like a computer character, wtf.

Witcher 3 is about as far away from Baldur's Gate as you can get, who scooped your brain out?

more like make up and great amount of PS
instagram.com/sladkoslava/

Do you get to fuck her?

Yup, valid point. Storyfags are ruining video games.

Does that actually happen in the game?

You can't fuck your daughter m8, sorry.
Nah, he walks with armor on. That's edit

>MUUUHHH Sup Forums DOESN'T LIKE VIDEOGAMES
good meme

No, I blame the game for failing to make those "builds" functionally different.

...

You can have a story in your games just stop making it the priority during development.

People will still play Tetris and Pac-Man in another 30 years, fewer people will likely remember or care about games like Uncharted or Witcher.

Because they rely almost entirely on visuals that will be outdated in a few years and their story to carry the experience, not compelling gameplay. There's little actual substance to those games, it's mostly visual/surface level fluff.

...

>that will be outdated in a few years

False. Unless magically consoles somehow make a quantum leap in computing power and shinier graphics are made way cheaper to produce.

>let's not evolve storytelling in games past 1987

Uncharted 4 and Witcher 3 will look outdated in a few years, yes. Would you feel better if I gave you a hard number, like 4 or 5?

Point being games that sell themselves on visuals are generally not remembered for long if that's all they're bringing to the table because those visuals will not be impressive later.

Games are remembered and played years and years later because they're fun and well-made games, not because they had awsum graffix when they came out.

But you can tell a story with a video game in more ways than presenting the player with a linear narrative through dialogue and cutscenes that take control away from the player.

I'd argue the direction we're going in is resulting in exactly what you're describing, stagnation.

We're not seeing new and different methods of storytelling, we're seeing the same tried-and-true shit we've had for years.

Scripted scenes that present the viewer with some passive entertainment, games that ultimately try to replicate the experience of watching a film, a more passive experience in which the viewer is simply presented with a narrative or story.

So how come I can come back to some games for story/atmosphere only? Some games will be remembered for story some for gamplay. I can easly go back and play me1 w1/w2 , BG2 etc, despite not enjoying gamplay at all

Does someone fuck her?

Gamers are never fucking happy, all through the 90's it was, "oh I can't wait for games to be more like movies," now that we are closer to that it's all bitching that they are to like movies.

And hey I don't necessarily disagree with you I also enjoys games that use the environment to tell the story but I also enjoy becoming completely invested in the characters and the story that's being told.
