So they seriously ending the series on a cliffhanger?

So they seriously ending the series on a cliffhanger?

Why don't they at least release a tie-in book, or a comic or something that gives us closure or something?

>Why would Gaben spend half a shekel on something that earns him nothing?
Have you been in a coma since TF2 released?

Because just like LOST, which was a huge inspiration for the Half-Life team, it was all just made up as they went along and nobody knew where it was going. Also all the people who worked on it have left Valve

its gonna be released this year

yeah dude a game that's not in development will be released this year

It will be released/annonced when they want to push something

I remember going on the Valve tour with other autists from Sup Forums years ago, there was concept art and models and designs for HL3 on display. I really thought they were actually making it. Years after that were a disappointment, but the last couple I just don't care anymore, and neither should anyone else. Valve obviously doesn't.

Not intentionally. There was originally going to be a Half Life episode 3 with there even being talks about a half life episode 4. Sadly it never took off beyond episode two.

>damage control

>ep 1 gets beta footage as a teaser
>portal 2 gets a bunch of teasers
>even fucking updates for tf2 got teasers
>one of them as an easter egg
>one as entire arg
>years after years still no word on hl3/ep3
>not even a solid confirmation, even though everyone knows they are working on it
It makes you lose hope. It makes you see valve as the enemy.

If Valve cared even a fraction as much as they and what is left of those who legitimately like them claim, they would at least sell the rights to another developer so that they could take over the series. I can understand the desire to become a shittier faceless monolith corporation than EA (who at least still make games) because there is money in it. I can understand the anxiety that goes with making a 3rd game that won't live up to audience expectations making a company that profits wildly off other ventures that are essentially synonymous with PC gaming pussy out because of how that might affect their image and their profits. I mean, look how BioWare ceased to exist after Mass Effect 3, and Valve is so much smaller than BioWare ever was. But the least they could do is let someone else take the risk and reap either the rewards or the consequences of actually finishing what the fucking started and what they in no uncertain terms implied had a continuing story.

TLDR: Valve sucks. Gabe Sucks. I hope he dies in 2017. Yes. I'm mad.

They aren't working on it though. Everyone who worked on HL2 has left.

Valve is the enemy. No two other ways of thinking about it.

Haven't ALL the Half-Life games ended with some sort of cliffhanger?

Why would you expect anything different?

Really? Fuck, man. When did this happen?

HL1 didn't.

Most of Valve's revenue comes from people who have never played HL2. At this point they basically have no obligation to continue the series.

Yeah but they're a private company, and their revenue is already insane. They can afford a few vanity projects. They have no shareholders to please.

Bit by bit their talent left as they stopped making games.

Why would a company bother sinking millions of dollars into that? There's no guarantee they could make a profit compared to saving those millions and continuing business as usual.
The age of Valve being passionate about games is over. Now they just want to sit back and rake in the dough.

>make tons of shekels from retards buying virtual paintjobs for their deagle and 5sec mp3-files
>no obligations to please anyone, since no shareholders
>no obligations to work on games as workers get to do what ever they fucking want and still get paid and praised by blind shillers and fanboys
>repeat this since 2008

I literally explained why that's the case in the very post you replied to you fucking idiot. Can you not read? Did you even bother reading my post before replying?

My friends and I have had this running joke for several years now that Gabe Newell has been dead for a while but they just sealed his bloated corpse in his office and Valve has been run by pink-haired feminists ever since.

It's gonna be announced when the SteamOS gets released. If it does, anyway.

Whatever happened to the Steam Machine bullshit? Did they just give up?

T-they're just making a bunch of games at once to release in a new Box, right?

>leader of the resistance group is mind raped for all the sensitive information he has on fighting the Combine and killed
>cliffhanger ending

The writers and other large chunks of the people that made them don't even work there anymore. Best to just assume the series is dead, because if they ever do make a third one the everything is going to feel off at best and the plot will go into the merry land of "that makes no fucking sense" at worst.

Your post works both ways though. They could burn money on a passion project, but they could also sit around and do nothing. And based on the lack of announcements and the doubling down on free money it seems Valve prefers the latter.
Like you said, they have no one to impress. No pressure to do anything ever again.

They left but lots of elements of the game are already completed such as the script for the story. If Valve wants to release the game they could do it they for some reason don't want to do it.

The plot basically writes itself, it's not like there's all that much to it. There was an alien invasion and there's a guy trying to stop those aliens. Sure, there are some details to it that deserve to be elaborated on but most of those are vague enough that you can do basically anything with them.

Most of the people who worked on hl2 didn't work on hl1. if anything hl3 being made by new blood would be more in line than a sequel made by the same people.

it's there last resort if steam ever starts failing to some other new service thats gaining alout of ground

Because. Valve. Does. Not. Give. A. Shit. About. Half-Life.

you post this webm in literally every valve related thread

Reminder that the voice actor of Dr. Breen is dead now.

We need to go deeper

Black Mesa one is better anyways

So does Valve only care about Dota now?

I only have a PC and I know valve is becoming a real fucking jew

oh look, it's the same move that i saw in a quake 3 video LITERALLY 10 FUCKING YEARS AGO

also, try playing that shit in a real match and enjoy being a fucking metaphorical clay pigeon.

>PULL!

>even though everyone knows they are working on it
They aren't though

>also, try playing that shit in a real match and enjoy being a fucking metaphorical clay pigeon.

>>PULL!

That's a good one user

Holy fuck, will you just let it go? It doesn't exist, most people that worked on 2 have left a long time ago. It would be a stupid decision to make it from a business point of view because Valve are basically printing money.

The only reason they don't tell us this is because it would bring bad publicity and piss off even the most loyal valvedrones. Half Life 3 is just a huge marketing trick now, they don't deny it, don't really acknowledge it but it's there, every 3-6 months, every event, every 3 someone finds in Steam/Source 2 updates, someone talks about the possibility of Half Life 3, why would they deny it? Just realize it doesn't exist and that's it. Also it's not a cliffhanger if the writers don't even know where the story is going? Story is an after thought in Half Life and has been since the very beginning, in fact the only reason HL2 was relocated to an unnamed post soviet country was because the lead artists changed, also both HL1 and 2 were mostly scrapped and redone in the middle of development.

That's my webm, I didn't post it though

>Holy fuck, will you just let it go?

I meant everyone "knows" they are "working" on it.
Nobody said anything, but they should be from any sensible point of view.

>people are dumb enough to ignore all the clues

No, I won't let it go. It's a fantastic series and I want more.

A sensible point of view would suggest they scrapped any work on Half-Life 3 years ago, and that it's essentially vaporware now.

Just give it up. I know it's hard, but you have to just face reality and admit Half-Life 3 will NEVER get made.

Supposedly it's because there's nothing new technologically to bring to the table. HL1 had you in control of your character at all times with no cutscenes yanking control, more use of scripted events, Roach AI, and HL2 brought in things like the first big physics engine (and then flood the game with object physics puzzles). But now they've hit a dead in since there's nothing new to really innovate with and stick onto the next game. Until something comes, the series is effectively mothballed.
No, VR does not count as innovative technology

>So they seriously ending the series on a cliffhanger?

Of course not, they simply didn't end the series. Ep2 ended and they decided not to finish it. HL2 will stand as a testament to Valve's downfall from PC gaming hero to Jew.

>Why don't they at least release a tie-in book, or a comic or something that gives us closure or something?

Because that costs money and Valve is a retailer now.

let it go, snake

it's over

>2013
>Kelly Bailey and Marc Laidlaw are long gone, this time for good
kek, HL-drones are this desperate.
