I've not played the new Rance game, and certainly am not intending on picking it up, so unless you have another game in mind to discuss I don't have much to say.

Why not?

I've played Sengoku and played one of the other Rance titles, and honestly, the other games don't seem to stand out that much from a general JRPG. Sure, Rance certainly is a different type of protagonist from the whinny teenage angstboxes in most JRPGs - at least that much is good - but he's not likeable and following his story isn't terribly interesting. At least, not for me.

At least Sengoku had the strategy element to keep things interesting, until I mostly figured things out and grew bored with that one.

Probably the same reason that westerners have such a hard-on for FPSs and first person perspectives: it gives a bit of immersion, to see things from the viewpoint of the character you are controlling. Japans just prefer the stereotypical repetitive grinding over the stereotypical shooty shooty bang bang that the west likes.

It's going to be rape. It's always rape in Rance.
Rance just doesn't understand that rape is bad and the women end up enjoying it, so the game treats it as fine. Plus, most of the characters who aren't "rescued" (raped) by Rance tend to end up in far worse situations, so generally it's the better outcome.

If you don't like it, then I don't think you will like Rance overall.

Have you played the game before? Because it's most interesting if you have absolutely no clue, or if you know the game well enough to wreck it. Being somewhat good but still doing stupid stuff is just annoying to watch.

I tried Kichikuou blind (I'm pretty sure the OP's .gif is one I made for that playthrough) but I haven't played it or Sengoku in years and could beat Sengoku effortlessly and it seems like a game the thread could pick what we do.

VI was a huge disappointment after Sengoku and I'm not interested in playing the older, dated games.

If Quest isn't good then I'm done with the series. It's probably a one-hit wonder anyway.

It's not even that, all Sengoku Rance did was expand on the Grand Strategy features which has like no real competition, making it a unique novelty.

Since they immediately dropped that line of gameplay I can only imagine they're immune to quality and shun it like the plague.

I enjoyed Rance Quest. Not as good as Sengoku, but it was still enjoyable as a more traditional JRPG

Kichikuou is fine if you liked Sengoku. Its essentially an older version that, while a bit dated, still holds up fairly well. Its a bit tougher as events are all on a stricter clock and the map is massive.
Quest by itself is pretty meh, its expansion pack, Magnum, fixes its biggest problems and makes it a good game if you like JRPGs.

I need to reinstall sengoku and if I do do it, I'll set it to either 1 or 2 star difficulty with minimal NG+ bonuses.

/vg/ isn't for game discussion. At best, you'll be directed to a pastebin as the only response. At worst, you'll get ignored or told to go away while they continue to talk about which girl they'd masturbate over, or only talk about upcoming games.

Most games with customization tend to focus just on the waifu generators, the Illusion titles and so on, and can just go with normal/anime girls for wider appeal. Robot porn is highly niche and so you're lucky to find a game which even has a robowaifu, much less one that allows you to install various parts into one.

In my day we had neither. We had to get gook software to run through trial and error. They use those chinese symbols for programming, can you fucking believe it?

Sounds fine, especially if you enable the various routes for potential choices the thread can make. As long as you can handle whatever the thread will likely throw at you (which, admittedly, isn't that tough) then it should be entertaining.

I'm curious as to how you might play the game compared to how I usually ended up playing it.

Well, I was just pointing out why it might have got deleted. Wouldn't doubt it's people from both generals reporting, and yes, both generals are normally a shithole and I honestly don't know why they are up.

There are /vg/ threads for Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, Mega Man, PS4, and Neptunia, but those threads are certainly not deleted from Sup Forums because of that. /vg/ is a containment board for the people who insist on gathering and socializing over a specific subject, not for random people looking to discuss the game.
